General Discussion / Competition idea.
Wed 09/11/2005 19:29:34
I was thinking it might be cool to have a competition where the entrants are given a background from an adventure game, a series of characters and other sprites, and have to come up with the funniest 'scenario'. Imagine those stickerbooks where there was a scene and you could stick things like people and items on them and youll get what i mean.

an example would be:

BG: The bar on scabb island.

Characters: Guybrush, lechuck, Largo and Stan

Items: Banana, bloody mary, monkey, manilla envelope.

Captions could also play a role.

Its probably a shite idea. Someone make it better. Quick. :)

Just something i did in ps with the tablet, i'm doing a college project atm which involves creating a title sequence for a documentary about a deep cave diver trying to recover the body of a diver from 10 years previously. Let me know what you all think :)

General Discussion / Ordered my XBOX360
Fri 28/10/2005 19:04:49
After a week of hunting for somewhere that could actually gaurantee me a machine at launch, i found Woolworths offering machines delivered on th launch day. There was a slight catch in that i had to pay for it there and then, but even after being £331.66 lighter, i now have a new xbox360 and project gotham 3 to look forward too :)

IK, i spent some time animating today, and something i noticed was that i'm not overly keen on the hat that Gloria wears, and it's also a humongous pain in the ass in terms of animating. Gloria comes from pretty much a present day period, so i don't think the hat is really fitting in that sense either. So i've come up with a new version of hers truly. I know some of you are going to prefer the old one, but i actually think he looks cuter with her hair down!:

P.S: I'm also toying with the idea of changing the shirt colour.

EDIT:

EDIT 2:

EDIT 3:

tidied up the shirt + shorts, and moved her head back slightly, it appeared a little craned.

Hi all,
I know you dont see me in this part of the forum much, that's because i havent really gotten around to doing anything tech-y for the game yet. As I'm well on with the artwork for the game now, i'll sooner or later be looking to get the scripting done, but there's a problem in the way that

a) i have no PC (i have limited access to one but i wouldnt be able to get massive amounts of time in on it)

b)I have no real experience with AGS as a programming tool (ive had a mess with it, but nothing serious)

I am computer literate, and i tend to pick things up quickly, but i'm looking at the possibility of getting a coder (or maybe coders) on board for help with the scripting side of things, in order to speed up the process of actually getting this game going. If anyones interested just leave me a post in this thread or PM me, but i must ask that i'd really only like to take experienced coders on board, as i want the project to be of the highest quality.

If you're interested let me know, this wouldnt have to be a full time project, and i'll be doing some bits and pieces myself. All those involved will be credited fully, so as i said, if you're interested, or even want to just ask about anything regarding the game just let me know.

Cheers

Dan

General Discussion / Quick photoshop tips
Mon 10/10/2005 19:26:44
Just thought id post some little tips in here and add them as i think of them.

ill start with fullscreen mode, use this (press the F key until the image surround goes back), handy for keeping tab of range on your image by having a black surround.

Things still to be done:

-More detail to be added to the rockface on the left.

-Path needs improvement

-Sign needs detail

- A generator needs to be drawn in under the right tree

Apart from that, fire away! :)

Ok i guess its been a while since ive shown any character sprites, and seeing as the areas and screens in which part one of the game are now finalised, i'm able to define the characters who live there etc.

This particular sprite is Gloria 'in disguise' , i can't really give a lot away about why she ends up like tihs, but perhaps the detectives amongst you may be able to figure possible notions by studying this and some of my recent art posts. ;)

As always, feedback, paintovers, crits etc welcome.

This is just a section taken from an 'overview' of the area in part one of the game. Needed to create something that would give myself (and the players) a bearing as to where everything is, rather than some random screens. I just coloured it rough, and theres some line detailling to be added, just thought id get something up so you lot don't think i've bailed ;). Ill post the whole thing as soon as it's done, in the meantime, comments are welcome.

Ok i was just doodling and i thought id do a rough sketch of a room for the game, so i thought id GIF it to give you an idea of how i create my rooms:

1. Make a very rough light sketch with a basic layout

2. Add a more detailled plan over this sketch (sometimes i do two or 3 of these depending on how much detail im going for)

3. Add a colour wash for lighting ideas etc.

Following this i usually go about adding refined detail and colour detail, ill add this step once i get the BG finished. Hope this gives some people an insight into how i do things, not sure if it's the easiest way but for me its just the method i find easiest and quickest (this took about 10-15 minutes).

Id quite like to play some of the older sierra games on my mac (OSX) and scummvm does a superb job with the lucas games, but im just wondering if anybody knows of a good program to run sierra games with the ease and perfect (or close to) emulation that Scummvm has? It would also have to have a Macintosh build.

Ok, this is my first one of these, so i'll try to make it interesting. Ive always preferred interior BG drawing to exterior, so that's what this one is going to be, and your theme/title for this BG is:

'The Old Kitchen'

320x200
256 colours

Interpret this as you will, good luck everybody.

Got bored so i drew my car, thought id give it some funky style:

Heres an original pic:

and heres my drawing. It didnt take very long apart from the wheels which were a bar-stuard to get right lol.

Ok, as i said in my character sketch thread, i've started working on a new BG. This particular BG is the back garden of the house belonging to one of the first characters that you'll meet in the game. I posted a concept of the BG a loong time ago, shown below:

I wanted a shot that contained both the fish pond and the back of the house. However i felt this shot seemed a little too vast for a cottage back yard, so i've redrawn the yard in order to have it appear a little more snug. This is the 1st draft (shown below) which i created basically to get an idea of how i want the scene to be lit. The detaillings not there yet and there are a number of things i havent implemented, and its by no means finalized, but it gives you a basic idea of how the scene will look:

Ill be adding some lantern lights to the tree above the pond, some garden tools, and other details to bring the scene 'up to standard' as it were. Any suggestions or criticisms are welcome as per usual.

The BG should be completeed within the next day or so, and once it's finished ill post a tutorial on how i went about doing it.

well it's been too long, but as ive said in the game production section I'm finally getting back to some sort of progress with the game. Here's a rough tablet sketch i did of the Main character (she's called gloria in case some of you may have forgotten. The plan is to clean it up and colour it up. Ill keep progress posted:

Not TLOTLL related, This is some art from a recent college project i did, it was a brief for Honda, where they wanted to boost the brand, so i created a mini site with a 3 minute animation movie. This is some of the concept art for the main character's house. If people want to see more i'll post it up.
