Ableton live is a very awesome piece of software, although I haven't completely gotten to grips with it yet. I much prefer using Traktor for pure mixing though, mainly for spontenuity reasons, although using a laptop for DJing feels so stangant to me no matter what control surfaces I've tried (even Final Cut seems a bit creepy). The physical connection between hand and vinyl feels much more fluid to me, and much quicker to beatmatch than jibbling the usually incorrectly determined tempo with Traktor :P

Although the creative possibilities that digital DJing opens up much outweights the negative points, which is why I sold my decks years ago.

Edit: Nice mixes by the way. The music veers slightly too close to DJ Tiesto terratory for my liking, but they're technically solid :) Did I spot a John Tejada track in there somewhere?

I've looked at using traktor, but it just doesn't have the depth that ableton allows. I use an external mixer so it doesnt feel too far detatched from the traditional set up, here's my rig:

P.S: No John Tejada in there, but i do have a couple of his tracks, really decent stuff! And i can't beleive you compared me to Tiesto, i'm disgusted!

When i saw the Title of this thread i thought 'uh oh...', but this is actually a pretty great idea if all it's to be is a remake of GF. My only concern is things like the real time cut scenes and character models being right. But seeing as people like myself can't play GF (mac user) anymore, it'd be great to have something like this.

yes, everything with more contrast, lighter, more distinction, thicker outlines. Children don't do earthy subdued tones, they break out the red crayon and go insane.

Cheers, i've mad e afew PS brushes which emulate crayons so ill probably haul them out for the final piece. I know what you mean about the colours, but i think i'll stick with the hues i've used because i think they suit it. I know it's not strictly accurate (as you've said) but i think it carries the cutsiness a little better.

I'm doing an TV ident for a project, and i'm trying to emulate a child like style of drawing, whilst at the same time retaining some manga-tamagotchi style cuteness to it. I've done a few doodles and this is what i've come to so far:

Drawn it onto a paper texture and used some pastel shades underneath to make it look kinda hand drawn. I appreciate the stammer in this early version is a little too harsh but that'll be fixed. Any thoughts or crits?

Normally i wouldnt do this, but i dont think it's fair that people spend a lot of time on entries and you try to suggest this is 'referenced'. Referencing means you look at an image for colour values and composition etc, not a direct paintover of a photograph.

Hey Chicky,

I order to be able to modify the three colors at will, you have to make the game in 256 colors (8-bit). Then you set three of the colors in the palette to the default colors of your game and import your backgrounds and sprites.

Now, in order to modify the colors in-game, you have to change the palette. Look up SetPalRGB and UpdatePalette in the manual.

That would be cool! Then the player could choose any three colours he/she likes to play the game in :)

I'm getting deja vu....

I lean towards the prospects of not dying, although in some games i guess it's not too bad. I think it's mostly because i played all the Lucas adventures 1st and so i'm slightly biased.

What i don't like are games where you can reach a point whereby if you haven't done certain things at a certain time or collected certain items etc, you become stuck and have to start the game again. I think Darkseed was the one that sticks out for this mostly for me.

I think it's possible, with techniques like dithering and crossing to give the appearance of greys, but as mentioned the trouble you'll have is distinguishing characters from BGs.

Couldnt there be some way of being able to choose your colour scheme in game seeing as it's really a matter of preference?

Wow thanks for all the feedback, im shocked so many took it on!No i didnt compose the tracks, these are tracks ive purchased.

In ableton ive put them together and mixed them all 'seamlessly', in the way that with 2 turntalbes and a mixer you would get the BPMs of tracks set then beat match t get the tracks in time, trying to make the step from one track to the next s smooth and seamless as possible. It's also important how you build a set as a whole, looking at things like the time you're playing, crowd reaction etc.

I dont put DJ in front of my own name btw, the scene i play doesnt really suit that kind of thing. :)

Wha- what do you mean by crappy dance music??
Even worst newbie at any kind on synthetic music would recongize this cool ambient trance chillout as quality sound!

And I love the mix!

By crap i mean countless covers of 80's tracks with a dance beat, tracks with no depth or layering at all, just cheesy stuff.

Thanks, it's quite mellow stuff, so i guess it's ideal to accompany work. Here's the set that broke, now fixed!

Really cute sketches, i love your lines!

In reference to matching your style, i think at the resolution you're working it it'd be an idea to look at the sprites from games like Street Fighter Alpha, Darkstalkers, Guilty Gear, Metal Slug. The pixel mock ups you've done reminded me of these styles, and i think they'd carry your drawing style well.

Well, as mentioned a while back on the podcast amongst other things i like to DJ! Had turntables for about 5 y-6 years and played in a few clubs, and in the last 6 months i converted completely to digital (using a laprtop, Ableton Live, a midi mixer and an external soundard). This is one of my recent mixes, it's about an hour long. Probably not to the tastes of most here, but it's there for all if you want to give it a go. It's a country mile from any commercial crap dance music, if that's any conselation:

EDIT: I've hosted a different mix as there's been a few technical faults with this one:

It sounds like an awesome idea, but it'd definitely be hard. MI3 is the longest of the MI games.

It's defineitely not as long as MI2? And i dont think it's as long as MI1 either?

I would never imagine "hope" and "Pandora's Box" in the same sentence...

Wasn't opening that box a bad thing???

My thoughts exactly, but apparently this is how it went (from Wikipedia):

QuoteHope was personified in Greek mythology as Elpis. When Pandora opened Pandora's Box, she let out all the evils except one: Hope. Apparently the Greeks considered Hope to be as dangerous as all the world's evils. But without hope to accompany all their troubles, humanity was filled with despair. It was a great relief when Pandora revisited her box and let out hope as well.

Sweet!

I love the graphics and it's a great idea too, keep it coming :D

Looks excellent, the BG in particular looks awesome, and the GUI reminds me of Simon the Sorcerer, nice and neat. Just don't let certain things...erm...cloud over other aspects of the game.

OK, i got them finished. Need sleep.

Thanks for the feedback all! I wasn't aware of the brand you mentioned but i'll look into it and change it if necessary.

A little explaination of each, as they're all based on hope but each is tied to a specific theme:

-The 1st represents pandoras box, where all the evils were released and hope stayed inside the box.

-The second represents an alternative illustration of man's desire to explore space.

-the third is a play on words, hope being the reverse of pessimism.

-Number four is a sattirical view of airplane oxygen makss, and the realistic chance of survival once they drop.

-Five is an illustration of a a russian story called firebird, which is about a mans quest to get a tail feather from a phoenix.

-six is a representation of reciprocal love.

-seven is an illustration of the quote 'Hope is faith holding it's hand out in the dark.'
