Looks her age? She looks 9 now!

i know she looks younger but i wouldnt say that young, the sprite looks a lot shorter than it actually is because it's on its own, but ive used other sprites i have for size references. If enough people agree with you then i will change it, but personally i think thats a bit of an exaggeration.

OK, as some of you may have read, i'm hoping to include a collectable card game in my game. The rules would be as follows:

-30 or so cards hidden in the game

-you are not required to collect the cards to finish the game

-you can view the cards you have in some sort of folder/book

-id like to include something whereby if you collect them all and bring them to a certain character, they tell/give/show you something you wouldnt normally see.

I'm a complete newbie to AGS as far as using the software goes (my friend who knows some coding is involved too), but does this sound at all feasible? I was concerned that because the puzzles dont have to be completed to finish the game, the software wouldn't like the idea, but i don't know much about it really.

Thanks in advance

Dan

Ok heres an edit, i like this one, as it's more true to the orginal drawing, she has a good stance, and the sprites a good size. I'm considering changing the age of her slightly, as i'm sure you'll agree that she does look young here, but it bears no real relevance to the story, and i'm pretty happy with this one.

I know the sprites not perfect (why do you only notice the mistakes when you've uploaded it?) but it'd be great to know what people think of this character in comparison with the previous edits?

Thanks

if you have photoshop or a layer based program, you can place your frames in a layer underneath than redraw them over the top. Even drop the opacity on the frames underneath so that it doesnt get too confusing.

Hm, i liked the first face (when it was still withouth body) the most...

As for body- i think it suggest more a child (or a slight midget, with current head) than 14-15 year old. At that age are girls/boys already a bit more developed (higher, usualy skinnier, because body mass can't really follow growth). I'd suggest to make a body a bit more stretched... or make a complete exagerated cartoon out of character (the head is still too realistic for that kind of body, in my opinion).

Here's my edit (i only stretched body in Flash, so it looks a bit odd atm).

i get what you mean here, and i'm working on it. I agree, i also prefer the 1st character's face, so im trying to get it closer to that. Ill post up some ideas later on today.

thought id poke the coals on this topic, ive revised this srite (made her smaller and given her a rucksack) for the reason that the original sprite was a bit too big and she didnt look quite as young as id wanted her to. Ive also ditched the smelly boots in favour of some converse-style sneaks, but i cant decide which i prefer. ::)

*UPDATE* Im going to rework the face, as i feel shes lost some of her 'prettiness', *sigh*.

It looks great, but what's happening with her arms? Does she have any or are they hidden away under her garment, does it even have spaces for arms?

the idea is that it's a sort of cape, and she has quite a thin frame  ;) but if it confuses too many people ill reshape it or even make her arms visible.

This is the newest character design, Molly, the first (and only) character in part one of the game, and part one of the game will involve helping her out. She'll be the one who will fill you in on the history of the island, and give you some helpful information. She has a love for gardening (i posted a concept of her garden a few days ago) and her fish. The thing in her pocket is a gardening tool, and i still havent decided on footwear for her yet.  :)

it looks fine, but you just need to make his trainer look a little more side on, try using a ruled line under the characters foot, it doesnt have to be dead straight but the closer to it the better really.

I think it's a good idea but you really need to make your main character look older, that lad doesn't look ready for Pokemon, let alone getting laid.

thanks for the crit guys, i know the bottom is dark, i just used black shapes and added highlights. The main piece is the pond, so i just wanted to angle it so that the pond was at 1 end and the house at the other.

The 1st act will take place almost completely at night, so im thinking of animating the character as normal then just repeating the frames with altered lighting.

Ok as promised:

Its rough and the shrub on the right will be replaced by a path of some sort, just wanted to get an idea for lighting, as i do with all concept art. Let me know what you think, but dont go mad on it as i said its not the final work, just a rough copy.  :)

lose the hair, it makes her look like an annoying TV presenter. I dont think i could put up with looking at her for any long periods of time. Looks good though.  ;)

wow, looks good, keep it up  8)

im trying to sound professional here but her ass is a bit saggy, could do with perking up a bit and making a bit smaller.

Well it's most definitely wrong. Sierra Online only ever sold something like 200,000 copies of LSL, yet over 1 million hintbooks for the game were sold. As for gthe rumour, it was probably started by Sierra themselves, just to discourage people from ripping off their games...

perhaps 800,000 people bought the game 'offline'?

Scuthbert, your method is very similar to mine, except that i take a third step, and write down the items needed. Then it's just a case of placing the items or finding ways to aqquire them.

Try to vary your methods of collecting items, i.e. dont make it so that everything can be picked up.
