number 8, IMO opinion the hair of 5 is a little too 'cloud'.

Only one thing I noticed, and it's small...

I noticed that in both front AND side views, the edges of the brimmed hat are turned up. Most hats are only turned up at front OR sides, not both. But again, there are exceptions to the rule..... so ignore me, perhaps...

You have a point there, because if the hat was turned up at the sides, then the side view should show these turn ups on the hat, and vice versa. Apart form that it looks fine though.

Allow myself to introduce my newly introduced partner for the game, introducing, Meni San. ;D

He's the king of all things script like, and is pretty damn handy with a PC too. He'll be loitering about like i do making a nuisance of himself generally, welcome aboard fella.  ;)

slight perspective problem, redraw the top of the door so that it matches that red line approximately. Like the manga looking guy :)

theres a great interview with Bill Tiller on www.scummbar.com

It goes into detail about how he made the BGs and what programs where used.

is there a picture of the original girl it's based on, i cant really comment without something like that. Looks real good and i have nothing to base this on really but for the eyes down she looks a little 'manly'.

Are you serious? No wacom he says. Dude, that's awesome. That is one good looking BG. And I've slept with enough drunken ex-runway model BGs to know.

lol thanks very much :)

I've been drawing with a mouse for a few years now, so i guess its kinda just like drawing for me.

Here's the 2 rough images i used to start. The first is the frame in red, drawn on a layer in photoshop. I know it looks like a wireframe but i assure you these are just ruler lines.

The second one is the black and white image you see underneath, this was an idea i had to help me out on how the lighting would look, thats just a large white brush with a low opacity done in steps over a black backdrop.

I know my finial image didnt look much like this one, it was more to get how i wanted the 'mood' to look.

sorry if its so confusing i think i need to read other tutorials and break it down better ;)

Yeah when I saw the line of blue underneath the door it made me feel like there was some kind of glowing machinery on the other side.

When you say totally in PS, do you mean even the rough draft, or did you sketch something by hand, scan it, and then go over it in PS? Or do you use a wacom?

This one was done from start to finish in photoshop, no scanning. i try to make a few rouch copies, 1 with a rough black and white 'painting' that helps me get an idea of where the light will be, then another with straight linesso i have some boundaries for walls etc. Ill post them up tonight, so you can have an idea of what i mean.I think some of my future BGs will be done partially by hand then scanned, more for time saving reasons than anything.

It was all done with a mouse, no Wacom involved.  :)

Thaks everybody, ill try and clear some of this up for you:

The glow under the door on the back wall is the glow of a TV set, thats why it's so bright. This is meant to be the 'less important' door, that's why i placed it on the darker wall but i see what you mean.

As for the railing, i only thought about this one last night, im going to add a post at the top of the stairs, then add a sort of 'bracket' that fixes the bannister to the wall. Thanks for pointing that out though.

To clear it up, the drawing was done completely in Photoshop, no 3D at all. I have no experience with 3D packages.

expect a 'revised' version at some point today.

;)

Can I be the first to ask for you to do a tutorial for us?  Many steps would be great!

I'm guessing you mean just going through this drawing as i did it step by step? I'd be happy to, although i hope some people will give me help on the technical side of things when i come to that part  ;D

This is pretty much the finished article, there are a few little bits that i'll tweak, but this is finished overall, happy with it, i wanted a dark light setting. ;D
#716
im gonna geve this one a go i think  ;D
#717
wow thanks everybody, i'm glad you like it, i guess it helps you get a taste of how the game will look, seeing as you've seen a few of the characters too.   :)

Dart- Trust me it will look better when it's finished  ;)
#718
dunno if this has been asked before but is there any awards given for upcoming games or anything like that?
#719
