I think it's more about personal achievements. "Yay, I made a video game that's fairly popular. My dream's come true."
Either that, or it's just for the shits and giggles...

It's pretty much both. :)

Well, I'm camped out in front of my cinema, waiting for may! From what I see of the trailer, two things struck me-
Spoiler

1. The room the truck chase is In looks an awful lot like the final scene of 'Raiders' (especially the 'top secret' on the crate   ;) )

2. The scene with the woman in It (1:26 into the trailer) there is something Interesting:

Those look like Indy's Dad's glasses, and Roswell, 1947? Look it up, if you haven't figured it out already.

So, looks to be a mighty interesting film.

General Discussion / Re: Anonymous?
Thu 14/02/2008 23:44:39
Anon are being branded as terrorists- but, to be honest, If I could have been there, I would have. Any 'religion' set up in the 1950s by a Sci-fi writer has something dodgy going on.

Although, no other religion is any better. If a scientologist murders, Scientology is a murderous cult, but if a christian murders, is christianity a murderous cult? Hmmm. These moral questions are the sort that make me glad I'm atheist.

I would, but my knowledge of website design is non-existant, unfortunatly.

Adventure Related Talk & Chat / Site design

In the 'Broken links in games.php' thread, Chris mentions a new games page. Does this mean the whole site design is getting an overhaul? Or just the games page. (sorry if this question has arisen before) And if so, when can we expect to see it?

You can't know if people want to buy it until they've seen it. And they can only see it if you release it as share/freeware. But then there's no point in selling it anymore...

Not quite.

The system works like this:
Freeware game- Shows people that games are good.
People- Want more games.
Commercial game- People buy it, based on past experience (with freeware.)

eg: Demos for commercial games are freely available, and If you liked the demo, you're more likely to want the game.

keep in mind that both Dave and Vince proved themselves by releasing freeware games before going commercial.

That's probably the way to go. No, on second thoughts, there isn't much point releasing a commercial version, not until I'm certain someone will buy it. Thanks for the help guys. :)

I was wondering if I released the game I'm planning to make (it's getting along... slowly) for free in the downloads section, but also released a commercial version, (In a box, with jewel or keep case) would you buy the costly one? Or is it not worth making a professional version (because everyone will just get the free one). I don't want to MAKE people pay, but I'd like them to, obviously. The full one will have extras like art and such, but the game will be exactly the same.

Bit of a problem here. Both my most hated puzzle, and my favourite are the same puzzle, basically encompassing the whole of MI2, but mostly the ending with LeChuck in the pipes. It was so frustrating, but I think that's why It's my favourite aswell. Puzzles that encompass pixel hunting and mazes just annoy the hell out of me.

:D Thanks so much! I got some fresh air in my system and took a shower, read a book, the lot. Now I have a basic plot and character laid out. I guess these ideas really work. A point I meant to make earlier is that ideas are like really annoying friends- always bothering you when you are trying to relax or do something, but when you need them, they're gone.

The Rumpus Room / Re: Cheesy subtitle for AGS
Sat 05/01/2008 21:30:30
How about:

AGS- Where everyone is as sad as you.

AGS- We've got two D's. We don't need a third.

AGS- AGS tutorial:
1. Promise people of a graphically intense, storyline and puzzle-rich game heading their way.
2. Say project is on hiatus.
3. Repeat

BigBlueCup- say it three times in a mirror on halloween when the moon is full at midnight and you BECOME Ron Gilbert.

AGS- We have 10 pages of cheesy subtitles and counting! Impressive, eh?

AGS- By reading this your social status dropped. A lot. Really, I don't think you'll be getting any phone calls anymore.

If you don't have an idea for a game you want to make, why is it you want to make a game?

It sounds silly, doesn't it? Making a game with no idea what it's about. To be honest, I'm making the game purely for something to keep me occupied, something fun and original. I'm able with computers, I'm alright at drawing and my friends agreed to help with anything needed. I enjoyed LucasArt's classics and the Broken sword series when I was young, and being able to create my own is something (that sounds) like fun, something I want to be a part of.

Thanks for all the replies! It seems the best thing to do is take a shower, so, I will. Then, I'm going out in the fresh air for 30 minutes (being cooped up inside for the holidays is probably what did it.) Then, I'm going to finish the book i'm reading- (Mary Shelley's Frankenstein- I stopped reading it because I was busy with all my new prezzies :P) Then, If all else fails, I'll try the find-a-random-word thing.

Sorry in advance if this is the wrong forum, my problem is AGS related, but not technical, so I think this is the place to post. I've been planning an AGS game, and most of my friends agreed to help once I've decided what to do. So I think the best thing to do is to get a decent plot down on paper. But that's it. I get a pen, some paper; I sit down, but nothing. I'm normally quite imaginative, but for about a couple of weeks I can't even jump the first hurdle- did any of you experience writer's block? If so, please tell me how you overcame it. I'm not asking for ideas though- just a way to get them.
