Ah, I wouldn't talk to him anyway. I hear that the only thing that ever comes out of his mouth is shit. (laugh)

It seems i am more hardcore in horror tastes than most of you guys :=

I don't really like jokes/funny moments in horror. I like funny memes (and do laugh with them), but horror should be a little serious so as to work a bit (even when remaining serious, it usually doesn't work at all; which is a shame). :)
I must admit, I only watch horror to laugh.

But there's a good reason for that. As far as I know (based on a book I read once, please correct me if I'm wrong), laughing is a nervous response to seeing something that defies expectations. It's why you can laugh at someone suddenly hurting themselves (and why there is a German word for exactly that), it's also if you think about it, very similar to horror. Since people are scared of things they don't understand, which of course includes the unexpected, especially people suddenly being stabbed through the chest by someone who appeared out of nowhere.
Have you noticed any similarities here? Someone hurts themselves, and it's either funny or scary, depending on the context. Because the only real difference I can find between something being funny and something being scary, is that for it to be funny, you need to realize at the end that there's no immediate danger. It's like "Oh I'm scar... no I'm not! Ha ha!"

So in my opinion, horror is the perfect partner for comedy. And even a pure serious horror can be hilarious if seen from the correct angle. I remember sniggering at Georgie having his arm ripped off by IT in the newest movie. Or maybe I'm just a psychopath. That's also possible.

Another thing to note. There are some horrors I just can't laugh at because I'm too much of a coward to find it anything but terrifying. (laugh)

I'm having trouble thinking of anything funny in Curse of Chucky
It's been a while since I watched it, but I'm pretty sure he said a funny line after killing someone, and then there's that ending where he gets a shotgun to the face. That's hilarious. And in Cult of Chucky, I think there's a scene where he's walking past a doorway, and someone sees him, so he goes "Shh", and then he just walks on.
In context, these are all funny moments. By the way, don't watch Cult of Chucky. It's the only bad Chucky movie in my opinion.

Iirc the original movie of the series, Child's Play, didn't have much humour either.
Later Chucky movies were full comedy-horror, obviously :=

I haven't actually seen any version of the Grudge, but haven't the last 2 Child's Play movies been more serious than the first was? I know for sure Curse of Chucky was. Of course the first Child's Play shouldn't have been scary to anyone over 8. Or to anyone who didn't own a My Buddy, Kid Sister, or Cabbage Patch Kid...
While Bride of Chucky and Seed of Chucky, were both clearly horror comedies, all of the other films do have a few funny moments. Usually due to the way Chucky himself speaks (he's such an asshole). If you watch all of the films, and skip to parts with Chucky in them, you will almost always find a moment worth giggling at. There's a reason why Chucky so casually slid into horror comedy for a while.

VampireWombat also makes a very good point, as Nightmare on Elm Street is another horror film series where the protagonist has a few funny moments in all of the films. Although for him, I think it's got more to do with the fact that all of his horror comes from dreams, and the surrealism is just strange enough to be funny.

And let's not forget the Scream series of course.

Lastly, I think Evil Dead II is a good example. While the first Evil Dead doesn't really have any funny moments, and Army of Darkness is pretty much a comedy, I think Evil Dead II is a good example of a horror with a few jokes thrown in. And these jokes work really well in showing Ash's slowly manifesting insanity.

Awesome!
I'm going to have to play this new version. :D

I think it depends on the tone of the horror you're going for.
If you're going for something serious all throughout, then jokes simply won't fly anywhere.
Likewise, if the premise is fundamentally a bit silly, then I think jokes can go a long way towards making your game more entertaining.

For example, imagine The Grudge having the same tone as any Chucky movie, or any Chucky movie having the same tone as The Grudge. It will no doubt be a bit jarring. While I know those are movies, not games, I feel as though it would be the same for a game as well.

Another thing that grinds my gears.
The fact that review scores go from 7 to 10 (or 70 to 100).
Apparently, anything less then a 7, is the equivalent of getting a 0.

Maybe it's just me, but 7 seems like a pretty good number. If 5 is average, and 6 is above average, than 7 must be pretty good. But nope. According to reviewers it goes like this:
7 - Bad
8 - Good
9 or 10 - Great

Here's something that grinds my gears.
You get a game that a lot of people recommend. You play it a bit, but you find it incredibly boring and tedious. All of the recommendations seemed to have neglected to mention that the feature they hyped on about, is actually a tiny aspect of the game, and that the whole game is a boring slog with plenty of questionable design decisions. You complain about the game, BUT because the game is known among its fanbase for being "difficult", everyone reacts by saying that all you need to do is "git gud".

The game wasn't even difficult! It was just boring!
I've played difficult games! I've even enjoyed games that are so difficult that I can barely make any sort of progress in them, let alone complete them! The reason I dislike this game isn't because it's difficult! It's because it was CRAP! >:(

One more idea of mine is a game about qualia. The concept of qualia implies that different people may actually be seeing the world in different ways; for instance, one person may see a color as "red" and another as "green", but since they both use the word "red" for it, we would never find out that they perceive it differently. I thought that in the game it could be taken to the extreme: you could play as several characters who see the same locations in a very different way (one sees them as photorealistic, another in cartoony CMI or DOTT style with bizarre colors, another in retro painting-esque fashion, etc.), and there could be some puzzles related to that.
That's an incredibly brilliant idea! 8-0
I would gladly pay money to play a game like that.

An idea that I have is slightly similar, but nowhere near as good.
The idea is an adventure game, but where each character has a different interface. One might have a simple left-click right-click interface, and another might have the 9-verb interface. But it would go further than that, because while one character would function like a proper point and click adventure game, another character would function more closely to a Telltale adventure game (with timed dialogs and all), and another character would function like a hidden-object game. Thus resulting in some crazy puzzles.
You'd have to become the hidden-object character to reveal an item for the point and click character to pick up and use on something, so the Telltale character can make a choice which makes the game go forwards. Overall, the game would probably be a parody of all three genres.

Laptops....

32 or 64 bit if you had to choose?

Is that any disadvantages with 64 bit?

Cheers
I would choose 64 bit. About ten to fifteen years ago, I would have chosen 32 bit if given the choice, but now, definitely 64 bit.
As stated by everyone else, the only disadvantage with 64 bit is that it's not compatible with 16 bit programs, but if there's any 16 bit programs you really want to run, you'll probably be running them in an emulator of some kind anyway.

I've been using 64 bit machines for well over a decade now, and encountered less than ten programs during that time, that I simply couldn't get running because of it.

And Chucky. :-D

@Dan - You can still enter a suggestion for as many or few of the categories as you want. Plus there's a lot of films that would fit in more than one category, so you could probably for a slasher film into at least three or four of the categories :-) Plus, you're invited to suggest films that you might not have even seen yet.

Also, this is open for everybody, not just the ‘professionals' as you say. I welcome one or two obscure titles that only the true horror buffs have heard of, but that's not what this is about.
Alright then, thanks. I'll see about filling it in then. :-D

...

And... done. There were only two categories I couldn't think of any film for. And one category where I added a film which I hadn't watched, but I had watched the sequels of.

Ah, so many cancelled games... but as for AGS projects. None of mine have been cancelled, just put on hold.
I'm even still planning to release the very first AGS game I ever started making... just with a different story, graphics, interface, puzzles, ect. It would probably be better described as a reboot, with the original concept being nothing more than a reference that only I would understand. It's coming along quite nicely actually.

And then there's all the others, which still need updating, changing, refining, and finishing. But none the less, none of my AGS games were cancelled. Unless you count the ones I worked on for literally one day. In which case there's countless. (laugh)

So yeah, my AGS games don't get cancelled, they evolve and get reworked into other games... forever. (laugh)

I would love to give some suggestions, but unfortunately the only horror genre I watched enough of to be able to suggest any films, is the Slasher genre.
So I can't really suggest much in any of the other categories. So I'll leave this to the professionals. :)
