When it comes to the roundness of the jar, I would make the middle of the top and bottom of the jar have the longest horizontal line and shorten up the lines as you get to the outside of the jar. Kind of like the top of your picture. This is very minor, but the current look of the jars top and bottom (closest) to me make it look like the jar is diamond shaped instead of round. The top and bottom roundness looks about right on the back of the jar but not the front.
This, exactly this. (nod)

Also maybe it's just me, but whenever a creature is preserved in a jar, they always looks like they're too big for the jar. Either because they've expanded from absorbing liquid, or from the magnification of glass making it look like that. Just a thought.

Yep, big congratulations to you all.

I've never really cared about achievements. And I would argue that they ruin the immersion in some types of games.

That being said some games can benefit from achievements, so long as those achievements can only be unlocked if you really REALLY go out of your way to unlock them. Because they can serve as a way to prove that you did something that no one would have ever attempted had that achievement never been there. A good example is see every single piece of dialog in an adventure game.

I really dislike getting achievements for simply reaching a certain distance in the game. I feel as though they're a little patronising, and are a very lazy attempt at making achievements.

Nice to meet you BigHairyEyeball.
Refreshments are over there, and rubber chickens with pulleys in the middle are over there. There are no fire exits, so in the event of a fire, just walk around exclaiming you can't do that.

Good luck with that game you're making for your Master's Thesis. :-D

Adventure games that are done well, tell the story through the puzzles. So you can learn about the characters, motivations, and the story as a whole, while figuring out the puzzles. Rather than just when you've solved them.

Adventure games done poorly, reveal a bit more story after you complete a puzzle. And only use the puzzles as small delays between story segments.

In the latter, the puzzles serve nothing more than a roadblock. And unfortunately most people see adventure games in that light, and it could be one of the reasons why Telltale Games don't have any proper puzzles in their games anymore.
But the former is what has always in my opinion, been what makes adventure games so great. That and the feeling you get when you manage to solve a particularly difficult puzzle.

My biggest issue though are the double pixels; mixing resolutions always looks like an error to me, not a design choice.
Quote from: Hobo on Thu 27/07/2017 17:22:58
Mixed resolutions can work sometimes, but often they create a very visible clash of styles, especially in low-res and pixel art.
Hobo's right, but in this case I rather like it. It creates a certain type of charm to it. But hey, that's just my opinion.

Just remember that a lot of people here hate mismatched pixel resolutions. Despite mismatched pixels having been used for decades. Just look at the original arcade version of Rampage.
So make your own decision when it comes down to that.

concept 6. Blondbraid's wartime café!   This one tells the clearest story if you ask me.
playability 4. Rocchinator's biker bar!   I can already see potential items to pick up, and possible puzzles.
Artistic execution 5. xBRANEx's animal-filled pub!   It's animated dude... ANIMATED!

I think everything that could be said, has already been said. So I'll just echo what others have said, with my own opinions sprinkled in.
The two possibilities I see here, are either move it up a little bit and make the background slightly transparent. Or go with CaesarCub's idea of making it replace the UI.

Both are great ideas, and I'd suggest making a mockup of both, and seeing which one you prefer and/or feel more comfortable in implementing.
