When it comes down to adventure games, the fact that it's pixel art isn't what attracts me to one.
I mean, I do like pixel art. I find it to be a very beautiful artistic style when done correctly. But that's just it, for me it's just an artistic style. And when it comes down to adventure games, the story is much more important than the artistic style.

So long as it looks nice, and compliments the game, I don't really care what it looks like. As a matter of fact, for adventure games in particular , I think I slightly prefer hi-res. And that's with my nostalgic love for pixel art.

Personally, I prefer the old low-res sprites. Funnily enough, they matched the backgrounds better than that hi-res sprite appears to do.
Plus, I liked the unique style, since I don't think I've ever seen such incredibly and purposefully mismatched pixels since the boss fights in old SNES JRPGs (you know, the ones where they just got a normal enemy sprite and scaled it up).

But it's your project, and if you feel you need to redo over 800 sprites, then I wish you all the luck in the world.

BTW I don't mean to be disrespectful to the games of the 90's but come on guys you can't seriously tell me that you don't see the difference between what Dave gilbert does and what some of the writers for Sierra and Lucas arts did! Because its day and night, we are mostly adults on this site so I'd appreciate your honesty and acknowledgement of such writing differences rather than just trolling me because your in denial. I've even tried alota modern adventure games and yet the delusion continues like daedelic games good artwork but mostly horrible storylines that feel like your being treated like a little kid playing games about rabbits and all sorts of kiddies themes I can't see that children are smart enough to clock any adventure game so I don't know why the childish stories keep resurfacing maybe this just isn't the place for me then? Lastly, I apologize again  for ranting but as I said I'm in my 20's and I can't be playing games where the main character has a hat with bells on it I mean honestly...
You sound like one of those people who refuse to watch animated films because "they're for children".

Just because something isn't realistic doesn't mean it isn't "mature", and it certainly doesn't make it horrible.

But to each their own I suppose.
As for recommendations, the only things that instantly come to mind is the Broken Sword franchise and the two Manhunter games.
Oh and of course I Have No Mouth, and I Must Scream.

Beginners' Technical Questions / Re: Ags3D

Oh my, this brings back memories. Let me just check to see if I have those files that I experimented with years ago...

Ok, I found 3 old 3D plugins. One for a psudo 3D (called Easy 3D), one for full 3D (called AGS3D), and one for 3D characters (called Character3D). I don't have documentation for any of them, but I do the have demos and the respective plugins.

So here's the demo for AGS3D: https://www.mediafire.com/?596ha64lcjj5dp6
And here's the .scm file I also found: https://www.mediafire.com/?c8b5y80l2l4pd2r

I hope this helps.

That last edit by Khris is a very charming character indeed!

I vote that one, and maybe produce the other views based on that.

(this is all new to me, and I find art by far the most difficult and time-consuming part of this whole game-making process).
Heh, just you wait until you start doing the music. (laugh)

about that license, if noone else minds, what about a wtfpl license. if github doesn't have this, I'd use the least restrictive license ever. besides the wtfpl, this is a template after all, no sophisticated module.
I wholeheartedly agree with this, especially with how this template is likely to be used in the future.
Although just to be clear, this isn't the least restrictive license ever, I once saw one that permitted you to do anything with it regardless of universe or time period. I remember it was quite funny to read, although I can't remember which software had it on. It was definitely for a small simple tool, probably used for game modding. :-\

The shoulders are a bit broad. It makes her look a bit like a man.
Also, thr front view of her face looks a bit like a skull... or an alien. (The side view is perfect though.)

Lastly, if you want to make the piercings a bit more readable, you could try adding a grey pixel next to each right pixel and see if that works. But I don't think it's nessersary since I read them as piercings straight away.

As great a Batman as Adam West was, he was not the original Batman

Batman was played in 1943 by Lewis Wilson and in 1949 by Robert Lowery. Adam West was the third actor to play Batman (as far as I know).

The mayor in Family guy is based on Adam West, has the name Adam West, and the voice was indeed played by Adam West.

Wow, two facts that I didn't know.
Thanks for that. :-D

I like the flipped hand. Still don't like the suitcase. To really judge the colors I'd have to see it in a game.

My bad, I'm left handed XD
Me too. :-D
Which is probably why I didn't notice the hand being a left hand.

I replaced the suitcase in selmiak's version with CaesarCub's shopping bag:

The suitcase might not be the best idea (although I musy admit I like it), but I think a shopping bag is worse. Wouldn't a box be better?

any opinions on that latest iteration?
Shall we start with a new menu screen?
With a contest or just in this thread?
I like it. The colours are a little too washed out for my tastes, and I'm still somewhat more fond of a floppy disc. But I think the former is simply because I need to let it grow on me, and the latter is just personal preference. So just ignore that.

As for what should happen next.
I uh... don't know. It might be a good idea to start a new thread though.

Very sad news.  I did not like hearing this.  He was a true Batman, the 2nd or 3rd best Batman in my opinion.
I probably shouldn't find this funny... but I can't help but laugh. (laugh)
...
My goodness, does that make me the Joker!

But enough of that. I find it sad that the original Batman died. Unfortunately though, I don't know of any other roles he ever played in.

In any case, I do believe timers are generally a bad idea, but in dangerous situations it makes sense if they're there, but generous. And yeah, limiting saves is not a good idea either.
Agreed, I think a good example of a timer done right is on Broken Sword 2, out on the docks when you knock on the door. If you don't solve the puzzle in time, you get shot in the face. It makes you feel the urgency, and you're also unlikely to fail.
A good example of a timer done wrong is on Broken Sword 1... I think we all know which one I'm talking about.
