The Rumpus Room / Re: Name the Game

I thought that hand looked like it might have belonged to a Space Quest, but I figured someone else would have quickly figured it out if it had been. (laugh)

Hmm, Star Control 2?

I remember Adobe offering Photoshop CS2 for free a few years ago. I can't seem to find it anymore (they probably took the offer down) but you could always give it a quick look.

Congratulations everyone! :-D

Not knowing what to draw, I decided to redraw a previous entry I drew in a Sprite Jam once.

Made entirely in MSPaint, using nothing but the pencil and paint bucket tools, and the default MSPaint palette. No magnifying glass, no paint brush, no stretching or shrinking of the canvas, none of that stuff.

Just pencil, paint bucket, default palette, and ctrl+z.

I could be wrong but, isn't that exactly what the LW_BASS template does already? Could you explain more what it is that isn't working for you?
I think he's wanting the character to walk when he left clicks on something.

Basically, add player.Walk(x, y, eBlock); at the beginning of your code for the interaction of any hotspot or object.
With x and y being replaced by the coordinates you want your character to walk to.

O boy silly me I did the time difference wrong and added 5 hours instead of subtracting thinking this started at 8pm my time instead of 10am (laugh). Maybe next time, how often are these held? Anyway...
Aww, now we'll never know what entry you would've come up with. :~(
Here's hoping you make it to the next one. :-D

Critics' Lounge / Re: Walker (and mask on)

There's something about that walker animation that just looks like he's stretching the walker out and making it wider. Maybe adding an extra pixel to the widths of the walker might help. :-\

As for the Egyptian mask, that thing is very creepy. So it's perfect. :-D

Ah, I remember when Greenlight first started. I actually took a screenshot of the first batch of games that got greenlit.
I think I took a screenshot of the second batch as well.

I even remember the first Steam Greenlight game to be released, and how it even got greenlit in the first place.
It was McPixel, and the only reason it got greenlit was because of a successful marketing campaign where the creator offered the game for free on The Pirate Bay, which said website then advertised on their front page.

Still, despite how ridiculously stupid it was, McPixel was a pretty decent game and was basically an adventure game boiled down to its most basic element. Click on everything!

Such a shame that Steam Greenlight quickly devolved into a cesspool of trash and filth. Sure there are a few gems in the rough. But there's just so much crap on it nowadays!

I honestly don't know what I think about this Steam Direct or what it will mean for indie gaming as a whole.
But hopefully it's an improvement over Greenlight (I doubt it though).
Personally, I think they should have kept Greenlight to the 10 games a month setting, and then checked out every game that was greenlit that month to see if it should even be allowed to be greenlit.

Cat: 2 points (Those graphics are awesome!)
Gurok: 2 points (Fun little puzzle.)
Ponch: 1 point (I didn't know how to land the car, but the interface looked brilliant.)
Ibispi 1 point (I couldn't figure out how to hide from the shark.)

You can count me in.
I'm just sitting here, waiting patiently for the theme to be announced. :)

You can only use the default colors in the palette that show up when you start paint.
This is going to be hard, since the default colours in the palette for MSPaint, depends on the version you use.
The older versions used to use something similar to an expanded EGA palette, while the newer versions have the most generic and well-rounded palette possible (I remember someone accidentally recreating it when trying to create a generic palette for games).

Still, I'm going to enter this.
Let's see if I can make something worthwhile. :-D

Interesting read as always.
Funnily enough, I think the first (and possibly only) time I properly noticed foreground objects was on Day of the Tentacle as well.
There's just something about the way they were done on that game that made them stand out, yet at the same time were still very nice and blended in the backgrounds well.

Also, those colours in the Willy Beamish screenshot, remind me of the castle level on Jazz Jackrabbit 2.

I was already imaging that it's a false positive, but i wanted to be sure of it.
Well I highly doubt we'd all be hanging around a forum and making adventure games with malware that destroys your computer. (laugh)

The more I see, the more I feel as though I've seen this film.
I don't think I'll ever be able to figure out the title though.

Thanks everyone for the kind words. :-D

Funkpanzer, I'm loving that premise and artstyle. I can't wait to see how that game plays.
