In my opinion you should get rid of those game stopper bugs.
Agreed, and if those bugs prove to be too elusive, I wouldn't mind giving your code a look over to try and fix them.
So yeah, fix those bugs the best you can, then release your game (or movie as the case may be) and say it's finished. :-D

Go on Mandle, you can do it, if you can't do it no one can! :-D

Phew... I'm glad I just looked like a guy making a bad joke, instead of a guy just being weird.
No need to worry there, you'll always look like a weird guy making a bad joke no matter what you say. (laugh)
In all seriousness though, I'd be surprised if anyone here didn't get the "shot first" reference, with how prevalent it is on the internet.

Oh man. I loved Dizzy as a kid. What a guy.
Same here. Some of my earliest gaming memories were of watching my dad playing Dizzy games on the Amiga, which no doubt plays a huge part in my love of the little guy.

Are you the kind of person that doesn't finish games that you have started?
Doesn't that describe 99.9% of all hobbyist game developers? (laugh)

Also, thanks for sharing the detailed list of how you make your games Slasher. I've always wondered about that, since you usually make your games quite fast.
I might have to try something similar one day.

He's a little beaten up and bumpy in his old age. But he's still out adventuring! :-D

You need to make sure they are on a walkable area in the new room you moved them to. That should set up the scaling and transparency correctly.

the border around the game is HUGE, to the extant that it'd probably annoy your typical gamer
Most of us typical gamer's are used to that kind of border by now. Mostly because there's quite a few games in 320x200, and almost everyone has monitor with a common aspect ratio. So yeah, most of us are used to it.

The only reason it's probably bothering you that much, is because you're used to no borders at all (or at least next to no borders) thanks to your 8:5 aspect ratio.

That being said, I think Khris's suggestion of cutting it down to 320x180 would solve your problem.

Well so far my process has been to:
1 - Work on gui, story, and puzzles.
2 - After the gui is finished, begin drawing the backgrounds.
3 - After the backgrounds are finished, begin drawing the characters and their animations.
4 - After the characters are finished, start implementing all of the rooms, their walkable areas, the objects in the rooms, and the hotspots.
5 - Then implement the puzzles.

I do all of that for one act of the game, and then start again for the next act, and so on.
It seems to be working for me so far, but overall, I do feel as though each step is a little too segmented. I usually get nervous going from one step to the other, because of how long it takes, which usually means it's been a long while since I've either done programming or art.

Wow, three years. I bet there's a lot of stuff which could use revamping. Just don't end up in an endless cycle of revamping and improving in skill. (laugh)

Also, those backgrounds look absolutely gorgeous. Am I right in thinking that the hole in the last background is a new puzzle?

Darn, I'm sure I know that fire, but I can't remember...
I know what you mean. But I can't put my finger on it either. :-\
Is it a Dungeons and Dragons game?

Fast and Furious? (Any of them, they're all basically the same film.)

Cutting things is always a good idea. It shows you're polishing the game.

And that shed. (laugh)
They went a little overboard trying to get in I think.

Ghost Chase?

Thanks Cmdr for asking that question, and thanks cat for answering, I've been wondering that for a while (even if I haven't released any games for years), so it's nice to finally know.
I was always too scared to ask myself for some reason. Also, like I said before, I haven't released any games for years, so there wasn't really a reason to ask just yet.

No, this series starts with an X (the game does not).
Xarnia? (laugh)
Honestly, I've never seen this game before in my life, and have no idea where to even begin looking for it.
