Like Snarky said, Visionaire is targeted more towards high-resolution games.
So if you're making a game with modern 2D graphics, then definitely go with Visionaire. If you're planning to use pixel art though, I suppose AGS could be a better choice.

You've used them both, so you must have some sort of idea of which one you prefer. So just choose the one you like more.

Personally I'd use AGS, but then again this is the AGS forum, so there is bound to be some bias in my opinion there. (laugh)

Just remember that neither will be easier to use. Every game creation utility has its own pros and cons. Your best bet is usually to just pick one and stick with it, and try and overcome any difficulties you encounter rather than switch to something else. But neither AGS nor Visionaire are that difficult to learn, especially if you have prior programming experience. Just go through a few tutorials and you should be good to go.

Although since it isn't a feature, I reccomend that you fake it instead. Just create two large objects at the top and bottom of a room, and have them change colours or something.
You do realize that normal black borders will appear on screen regardless?

These black borders do not depend on what you do in your game, they depend on game/screen relation. On some computers you will have them and on some you won't.
Yeah, I realize that. It would still work though. I'm fairly sure I've played some games which have real black borders and fake black borders. Usually the ones which try to me cinematic. So I think it could work. If you have fake coloured borders, I bet people won't even notice the real black borders.

Basically, what I'm trying to say is. I don't know why he wants coloured borders. But I'm fairly sure that whatever the reason is, it would look just as good if it was faked, even with real black borders that may or may not appear on the screen with it. Besides, most people don't notice black borders because of how common they are.

Really great use of the EGA palette there. Which is quite an achivement considering how horrible I think the EGA palette is (it has no nostalgic value for me, I grew up with an Amiga).

And AnasAbdin is right, this background should be taught in schools (or at least art schools). This background alone is a perfect example of how to properly utilize the colours you have at your disposal.
I'd love to be able to do something like this.

I love that walk cycle. It has a sort of (probably unintentional) goofiness that I like. It gives personalitiy to the character and goes well with the artstyle. :-D
The portraits are a little scary though.

that's first time in my memory someone asked about that
Holy crap, an original question! I didn't think those were even possible! 8-0
And thinking about it, it would be an interesting (albeit an unusual) feature. Being able to change the border colours would be kind of like the old ZX Spectrum games, where sometimes the border might change colour (especially during the loading of the game).

Although since it isn't a feature, I reccomend that you fake it instead. Just create two large objects at the top and bottom of a room, and have them change colours or something.

And here I was thinking it was some sort of Pac Man clone.

I'm claiming the Columbus theme: Gameplay is already about a quarter finished after an hour's work...
Ooh, I hope your game is historically accurate, because if it is, it could be hilarious. :-D
Remember, Columbus was an evil idiot. He thought the world was half the size that it actually was (people already knew it was round, and had already mathimatically determined it's correct size back during ancient Greek times), he discovered a land that had already been discovered before (it's even named after the person who had discovered it before him), and he started the slave trade.
He was one lucky evil idiot. You should be able to make a great game starring him. :-D

Also, remember that some descriptions can act as subtle hints.
Perhaps from the character remembering what he or someone else did before with such an item, or from noticing something is missing.

Because there's been quite a few non-english games in here, and because I can't think of any other obscure fun games that I used to play, I present this!

Good luck.

Wow, that looks so... weird. 8-0
It also looks old, but mostly weird.

It would have been a nice blast from the past, had I heard of RoN back then... or even had the internet back then. (laugh)

Thanks for showing that. :-D

I'd love to give some criticism, but I'm worried I might be bias due to the lack of texture. You see, I find it hard to visualize what it would look like finished.

I suppose the only thing I can comment on is that it looks a little bit too cartoony for a Quest for Glory fan game. But that's just the artstyle you're going for, so I'd recommend you ignore that comment of mine.

It looks nice though. I just wish I could give some advice on how to make it better.

I know that game!
It's Mayhem in Monsterland.
Fun game. :-D

I've never really found a decent horror game. At least, in my opinion. The best horror games I've ever found, are usually just horror levels in non-horror games.
The simple matter is, horror games usually take themselves too seriously while introducing laughable game mechanics.

As for horror adventure games. I usually stick with comedy adventure games, so my experience with horror adventure games is limited at best.
I suppose there is one horror adventure game that I absolutely love... but it's not a point and click adventure game, so I'm hesitant to even call it an adventure game for that reason alone.

The 'lunatic' look though is actually in keeping with Johnny's character - I've seen the pilot episode and lets just say he's not all there. The portrait is actually pretty good in that regard.
Oh, well in that case keep it as is. It's perfect. 8-)

I should really watch that pilot episode.

I love the circle and triangle backdrops on the portraits.
Johnny's portrait still gives me the creeps though. It's the white above Johnny's eyes that make him look like a serial killer.

Here's my quick fix:

I'm loving these changes. They simplify things and give a bit more freedom. :-D

Also, email... and if that doesn't work, you could always send letters.
Good luck.
