Wow Frikker, that is incredible! 8-0
Is that a photo, or a 3D render?
You know what, I don't care. It's brilliant!
The angle, the lighting, the story that goes with it. I love it. :-D

This game just looks better and better with each new screenshot.
It's going to be brilliant when it's finally released. And those graphics. They're enough to make me drool! :-D

I am legitimately looking forward to this game. (nod)

Alright then, here's a screenshot:

If Ark comes back though, feel free to ignore this. :-D

EDIT:
Another screenshot, and a hint. :-D

As far as I know, this game is based on a series of (apparently somewhat popular) books.

I think you've aimed for a certain style and found your own instead!

And that's a million times better than pulling off a perfect copy of someone else's!

Agreed, 100% agreed.
Which was why I ended my criticism before, by saying just how good it was, and that I was only trying to critique on the area he asked on.

In my personal opinion. Leave it as is, and use that sprite as the basis for your artstyle. Because it is quite simply brilliant.

It looks like a normal nursery to me.
I mean, I would raise a child in there. (laugh)

Finally done.
Definitely not my best work, but then again, I said I wasn't very good with backgrounds.
But hey, at least I've participated. :-D

I like to think it tells a story.

I'm finally done. Here it is! :-D

Beetlejuice.
My favourite movie.

IMDb describes it best:
A couple of recently deceased ghosts contract the services of a "bio-exorcist" in order to remove the obnoxious new owners of their house.

I just had a go at something but it was crap and then I ruined it further by putting blood everywhere. Now not only is it crap, but I'll probably look like a psycho baby-killer if I show anyone. It's in the bin :-/
Ooh, blood. I think might steal that idea. :-D
And no, I'm not kidding. I think that might be just the thing my background is missing.
#3496
I'm still going to post my entry, I'm just waiting until the last minute before I post. Because it just doesn't look good enough yet. There's something missing that I can't quite put my finger on.
#3497
Uh... I think there's a spelling error in your dialog box in the second screenshot. It says "Let me alone emo." and should probably say "Leave me alone emo."
I just thought I'd point that out for you.

Ok, I've been thinking about this for a while, but I think the one thing that prevents this from looking realistic is the face.
The shape of the face and how it goes into a point in the center, looks too cartoony. Things are generally more bulbous and rounded.
But more importantly, that mouth. The slit looks too much like a hole, and not enough like a narrow slit. Plus the way his mouth opens... it looks somewhat like how they do it in Anime. His mouth just kinda seems to appear, rather than having any real kind of anatomy working in the background there.

The thing about Oddworld, is that all of the anatomy was realized. The muscles and bone structure, and how they all interact with each other to perform movement, were all thought out, even if it wasn't always immediately obvious.
And for me, that just seems to be missing from the face of that character. If anything, it kinda looks like he's wearing a mask.
If he is wearing a mask though, and I've been misinterpreting the picture this whole time, then it's perfect.

The rest is really nice though. :-D

Oh, and just to clarify. This is some really good top notch pixel art.
I'm just trying to help by critiquing on the area you asked. I hope I'm not being to critical.

I know that "Trope" and "Cliché" mean different things, but I have no idea how they're different, so I just use them as synonyms. I should really look into how they differ.

None the less, I agree with ThreeOhFour. It seems wrong to criticize something just because it's overdone. After all, I prefer humorous adventure games, and tend to avoid the more serious ones. Humour and adventure games, tend to go hand in hand for me. I can't imagine one without the other. So hearing so many people say that humour should practically be abandoned altogether in adventure games because it's overdone, is a little jarring.

What you should be criticizing, is whether or not something is being done simply because everyone else is doing it. For example, almost every adventure game nowadays has to include a forced reference to Monkey Island. Even Tales of Monkey Island included a forced reference to Monkey Island! THAT MAKES NO SENSE!!! And yet it happened.

If you're doing something simply because everyone else is doing it. You're sacrificing originality for a pitiful attempt at gaining more popularity. Unless of course you're doing it to make fun of everyone else doing it. In which case you're making a parody. But you get what I mean.

Don't you find it odd that it's simply laughed off, considering all the unanswered questions and the gravity of the matter?

Not really. Considering how the media blew it way out of proportions, that conspiracy theorists also did the same thing, and just how big of a deal this incident means to people, I can completely understand why it gets laughed off.

Besides, a plane crashed into a building. For most people (me included) that's an open and shut case. I mean, would YOU do the extra work required to investigate something that seems that simple to you? For most people, the answer is no.
Even if something weird is going on, which it kinda seem as though it is. You can't deny that a plane crashed into a building. And with that in mind, that's all people will see.

It's a bit like this. Let's assume that there's a car crash. You go down, and find one survivor, so you stab them to death. The police finally arrive and see the car crash, and the weird stab wounds. They wonder who on earth would just murder a lone survivor in a car crash? They then ignore it, because who wants to do the extra leg work for such an open and shut case.

In short, it's not odd at all.
