As someone who first discovered AGS back when it was at 2.72, and who for many years refused to update to 3.0 due to preferring the interface in 2.72, I can tell you that I'm glad I finally bit the bullet and forced myself to use the newest version.
It's taken a short while, but I now prefer the newer versions over the older ones, plus I get access to all of the cool new features (and better compatibility).

The biggest hurdle for me was the slight reorganization of the interface, but that can easily be fixed by moving the menus around (which is one of those cool new features I was talking about).

In short, I think you would gain a lot by upgrading. You don't have to, but I'd highly recommend it.

General Discussion / Re: Journal versus Diary
Tue 19/04/2016 15:59:23
And this is where my knowledge of being British actually comes in handy!

You see in Britain, a diary isn't something you write in like a journal. Instead we use it more like a calendar or schedule planner. You'll even often hear people say things like "So make a note of it in your diary." for whenever someone wants you to remember to do something on a certain day (like attend an online tutorial).

And for me, that's where the difference lies.
A journal is a written document of events that have transpired, including your thoughts and feelings of those events.
A diary is what you look in every day, and use as a reminder of events and other useful tidbits of information. And like others have said, a diary is a more private and personal object.

8 is definitely my favourite now. Definitely that one. Especially that hat, simply brilliant.
Just fix those few problems Mad pointed out, and there you go. The perfect Indy sprite. :-D

Definitely body 1.
But neither hat is perfect. You need some sort of cross between hat 1 and hat 2.

I really liked this story, and as I said in one of my previous comments, it even had me wanting to spout fan theories!

:-[ :-D :-[ Well, if you have theories, I'd like to hear them. Normally, I try to come up with reasons for everything that happens in my stories, even if I never mention it in the text itself. But because this was all about randomness, I didn't try to come up with anything and I even think there is no reasonable explanation. So if you actually have one, please do tell me.

Alright then, here are my theories.
The aliens were prepping the humans so that they could eat them themselves. I'm not sure why or how that would have worked, but they're aliens. So just because it doesn't make sense to us, doesn't mean it doesn't make sense.

My other theory is that none of it was real. It was all a simulated reality. Why?
Who knows. Maybe humans and the planet Earth don't even exist.
Maybe it's was a prison?
Maybe they were pulled out because a bug in the system was causing all of the food the subjects were eating within the system, to turn blue?
I honestly don't know.

I have oh so many fond gaming memories. So many in fact, it's hard to pinpoint one.

So instead I'll just share my most recent one.
First though, a little backstory to give some context.

Many years ago (probably close to ten) I started playing games with my mother. Most notably Timesplitters. I'd show her how to play the game, and in turn she'd play the game with me. :-D
We played all three Timesplitters games, and even completed the third one countless times. But of course you can only complete the same games so many times, and Timesplitters is rather unique in regards to the way it approached the FPS genre.
Two years ago I found out that before Timesplitters was made, the people who made that game worked for Rare and made Golden Eye and Perfect Dark. Both of which were very similar to Timesplitters, and the latter of which had splitscreen.
Natually I downloaded an emulator and a rom, and asked my mother to play it with me. We did, and boy did we enjoy it. So nostalgic for both of us. :-D
We completed the game three times. The first on easy, the second on normal, and the third on hard.

Now we're getting to my fondest gaming moment.
We were on the last level on the hardest mode. Now this level had been an absolute nightmare on the other modes, and so this time we were coming prepared. We made sure to really abuse the save states just to get to the final boss without losing a single bit of health, just because we knew we'd need every last bit. (We usually tried to avoid save states, and even completed all of easy mode without save states, well except for the final level, which is what started us off using save states to begin with.)

We had gotten to the little corridor just before the final boss, and we both had full health, and had the game saved.
What made this really hard, was that our controllers were pretty crap. It was almost impossible to aim with the analog sticks. We literally needed to strafe to be able to hit anything! I suspect that if we were on a real N64, we wouldn't have ever needed save states.
But I digress, we had decided that since I was the better player, I would go in first, fight as good as I could, and then when I died, I would use my mother's character as my second life.
So I ran in and began shooting. And you know what... I didn't get hurt once. As a matter of fact, I was so accurate, I somehow stopped the boss from summoning other monsters! I was somehow getting it's shield down, and hitting it, so quickly and accurately, that it didn't get a chance to summon its minions, which were usually what ended up killing us.
Somehow, on the hardest mode, I managed to easily defeat the final boss on my first try. And the way I played, I was like a bloody action hero!

What's more, that pretty much ended our final run on Perfect Dark, since it marked the completion of hard mode.
Definitely the best way to complete the game, once and for all.
Funnily enough, it didn't seem as though I needed those save states after all. (laugh)

I've not played much, just the first few seconds, but here are my first impressions.

Overall, it seems to work very nicely.
There did seem to be an annoying delay between when you click on something, and when the interaction for it runs. Just clicking on the sky a few times in quick succession should show what I mean.
When I clicked on the note button which told me it didn't work, my cursor was moved to the top right of the screen. It was mildly annoying.
Lastly, the character seems to glide everywhere, but I think that has something to do with the lack of bounce in his walking animation.

Ooh, looks nice.
And did you say multiplayer... ok, you had my curiosity, now you have my attention!

I really don't know what art is, I Base my knowledge of it by studying art through books and video documentary
Yeah, I doubt any of us here truly know what "art" is.
As far as I can tell though, there's several definitions. The two most typical ones are the "everything is art" and the typical "only certain things are art". Both are equally acceptable. If anything, I believe most of us live by both definitions. We understand that everything is art, no matter what it is, but to us only certain things are "art". If you get what I mean.

My point is that there's no possibility of a computer to create a unique masterpiece even remotely.
It is my opinion that if given enough time, a computer will be able to do anything a human can do, and probably even more.
A good example is that a computer currently can't feel emotions (and in my opinion, shouldn't), but it doesn't mean that we can't make a computer feel emotions. Heck, it should even be possible to make a computer feel emotions that humans can't!

Also, here's something else for you to think about and to add further fuel to the fire.
There is absolutely no possibility of me making a unique masterpiece, not even remotely. Does that make me a computer?

What surprises me the most is that they obviously visited the AGS boards to get some inspiration for this movie!
If I had to take a guess, one of the writers probably saw that thread a long time ago and he unknowingly used elements from it years later, despite not remembering it. Things like that influence us all the time.

Still, it's pretty impressive they used one of your ideas. Whether or not it was intentional.

Best Character: Sinitrena (Definitely the most believable and realistic depiction of characters I read, while remaining entertaining.)
Setting: SilverSpook (Due to the sheer length, this story wins in setting, without a doubt. It's the most realized and unique of all the settings.)
Plot: Sinitrena (I really liked this story, and as I said in one of my previous comments, it even had me wanting to spout fan theories!)
Word Choice: Sinitrena (I'm not really the best at voting for word choice, but I really enjoyed reading this story, so I'm going to vote for this story.)
Random Event: Mandle (Personally, I think my story was the most creative, weirdest, and random. But you can't (or at least shouldn't) vote for yourself, so I'm voting for Mandle, just because it happened in real life.)

A true artist steps to the ring and assumes his work, he puts emotions on a canvas
So in short, all we need to do to make you consider this art, is make computers feel emotion.
Well that should be easy enough. The only question that remains is how many years are left until someone does that. Definitely under a hundred if you ask me.

I love the way how the blonde hair and red dress on the woman, and the pink neon sign, are the only things in the entire scene with any colour.
It really gives it that fancy noir look. 8-)
