Yeah, I can't wait for part 2 either. Things were just starting to get real interesting in the first game when it suddenly ended! I need to know how the story continues, darnit!

I actually think AGS and AD forums are THE friendliest forums I have ever been a member of, and I've joined many others before this.

Cluey, your example shows exactly why I started this thread. Some forums just treat new members like crap.
As I have stated, why do public forums like that even exist if they do everything in their power to chase new members away? One day they'll take a look at their member count and wonder why it's dropped so drastically, and their forum is dying.

Just because a forum member has been registered on the forum longer than someone that joined only a week ago, it doesn't make that person automatically more intellegent or a better person than the newbie.

I recently posted an ad on a forum for the second issue of The Arcana, in which I actually give some free advertising for that particular site.

A few hours after the post, I started getting derogatory remarks about my company name and I was outright told that my HTML coding is utter rubbish (instead of giving me ways to improve on it).

Once again, from a bunch of people between the ages of 13 - 17.

I sometimes wonder why I even bother signing up with new forums anyway, since this seems to be the general attitude with most forums these days.

These are all movies I would LOVE to see!

Thanks Darth.

I've just downloaded A Friend indeed, and I love what you've done with it, especially the disappearing walls. THAT is sheer genius.

I'm currently redoing the GUIs for my game, and adding some cel art cut-scenes to make the game look a bit better.

I'm still in desperate need of some reference music for the film-noir style I'm going for, so the music part might take a bit longer. Also, if I can get my hands on some pre-made midis in the same genre things might also go a bit quicker.

Yeah, the Street Fighter movie was horrible. What were Capcom thinking to even allow it? The anime street fighter movie was 100 times better.

Yeah, that's basically the way I make rooms in Bryce as well.

I'm just so used to using 4 viewports for easy allignment that I feel completely out of my element when using Bryce.

Once again, jrl2222, you do some great work.

Thanks a lot guys.

Hopefully I can get the game out real soon, since there's not much left to do except for cut-scenes and music.

Well, some time last year I created a private detective adventure game using RPG Maker 2000 graphics.  I didn't, however, finish the game since I didn't think hardcore adventure gamers would enjoy playing an adventure game using RPG graphics.

That is, until I saw Catacombic. It uses RPG graphics, and still turns out to be a great game, so I decided to continue with my PI game.

The game sees you as Sam Martin, a private investigator who is down on his luck.  Sam has a month to make some money or he loses his PI business. One night, while having a somber time with his good friend Jack Daniels, a beautiful woman enters his office. She hires him to find out who has been stalking her for the last two months.
Sam gets invited to her family's mansion, but a few minutes after Sam arrives the girl is murdered in the study, behind a locked door, with no other exits from the room.
Can Sam solve the case of the locked room corpse?

Here are some screenshots:

That ugly textbox GUI has gotta go!

All-in-all the game is about 80% complete, but I want to do a few changes and tweaks, so the game should be available some time in the next 2 weeks.

Also, I'm looking for some good film-noir style music that I can work off to create the soundtrack to the game, since I'm not too good at that specific style of music. But I've got to learn sometime. If anybody knows where I can get some midis which fall into this genre I'll be very thankful.

Whoah! Great game!

Last year I started creating an adventure game using RPG Maker 2000 graphics. I nearly finished it, but thought that hardcore AGSers won't much care for an adventure with RPG graphics, so I stopped the project at about 80% completion.

Well, guess I was wrong. I think I'll continue with the project.

Once again, great game! I finished playing it this morning.

khrismuc, if you take a look at the beginner's forum you'll realize that this thread was actually MOVED to this section by one of the moderators. The rules have nothing to do with it.

3D Studio MAX worked fine in XP until I got myself a new PC. 3DS Max 3.1 seems to have a problem with AMD processors. I downloaded a fix, but still no luck.

Thanks for the offer Wabbit. I still have all the original CDs for my favorite 3D packages, but sadly after my computer upgrade I'm experiencing some software compatibility problems with 3D Studio Max.
I still have Poser and Bryce on my PC, as well as Blender, but I feel so limited in the use of these programs since I've been using 3DS MAX for more than 5 years now.

Thanks a lot Wabbit. Your advice definitely does help.

I drew the dino on paper then scanned it in as a reference for the pixel art version.

Also, I need to know if this style is good enough for adventure games. Any comments and critiques will be welcomed.

I really would love to get a game going again, and since I can't use my 3D software at the moment, I'll have to try my hand at 2D. So any advice will be appreciated.

No problem Wabbit.

And by the way jrl222, those are some mighty fine backgrounds you did there.
If I may ask, where do you get your 3D models from?
#35
The simplest method is to create 3 boxes, stretch them out (with the scale tool on the edit tab) to create your  back wall and side walls. From there on you can import objects to furnish your room.

The outlines you see in the above pictures are actually the standard wireframe view of the 3D models. You can't actually "draw" outlines in Bryce.
#36
Well, I have used Bryce myself to create 3D rooms before, but I prefer to use programs such as 3D STudio Max to do the more intricate modelling of furniture, decorations and other such things with finer details.
Bryce is fine and well if you want a bare room outline to work with, since you can import various types of 3D models as your room "props".

But I prefer a more hands-on approach in creating my own models, therefore I use 3D Studio Max. Have you ever tried to model a sword in Bryce? Not an easy task.
Or what of a car? Nigh impossible in Bryce.

What I can say about Bryce is that it has a wonderful renderer, actually sometimes creating better-looking images than 3DS Max.

I have included two pictures to demonstrate.

This first picture was created using Bryce. Bryce's texturing is good and easy to manipulate, so definitely a bonus.

This second picture was created with 3DS Max.  Some of the models are imports, but the majority is hand modelled in 3dS Max

So, in conclusion, if you wish to create a quick room and furnish it with stuff you get on the internet, Bryce is a good alternative.

But if you want to model the furniture yourself, another 3D program would be a good idea.
#37
Ok, I'll say it again. I'm no 2D artist. I suck at drawing and don't know much about drawing techniques.
But anyway, I decided to try my hand at sprite art just to see what comes out.

This little dino guy is the end result.
I wanted to add scales to his body, but when I did, it came out really bad.
Anybody got any idea how I can add scales to his skin quickly and easily?

Please, any C&C appreciated.

PS. Excuse the white blotches, they appeared due to anti-aliasing when I resized the image.
#38
Neither Poser nor Bryce are really made for modelling rooms. Poser has no real modelling features that don't have something to do with characters, and Bryce is more suited for outdoor scenes, since modelling with Bryce's 3D primitives is definitely not easy.

I'd suggest a freeware 3D program like Blender to do more intensive room creation.

No problem, Kinoko. ;D

It's a great site, and it has some of the best indie RPGs available on the net.

I'm using a new shading technique. Please view top post for example.
