Frontier

My wife cheated on me and left, but why should I care. Today is the day man enters space for the first time, and I am one of those men. It's a strange feeling, sitting here, about to make history, missing her, but loving this, and still... missing her. I couldn't help but get lost in those thoughts.

"Everything checks up on our end gents, give me the panel v4 specs, over." the radio crackles.

"Jim?", Charles said looking over at me.

"Yeah, sorry, eh... v4 ASR at 5.90, LIO 0.5%, all REP blocks calibrated, over", I replied.

"You nervous Jim?", Ckarles asked.

"Why wouldn't I be, it's exciting though, in that, we could die, kind of way...", I said.

"I heard about your wife Jim", Evan said, turning his head back over his seat, as if he wasnt aware of the intercom system built into the helmets.

"It's a fucking shame, but think of it this way, while shes sucking off some asshole, you'r gonna be one of the first to see this earth from the outside, thats not nothin", he continued.

"She left me for a woman you know", i repied.

"Shit...", Evan went silent for a moment. "Not sure if this beats that at all man", Evan cuckled.

The radio suddenly took over, "Gentlemen, 10 seconds 'till lift-off, godspeed to you all, over".

"See you on the other side, over and out" Evan replied.

"Everyone ready?", Evan asked the crew.

"Ready as we'll ever be sir", Charles replied.

"Three seconds, this wont be pleasant, just try not to pass out", Evan said as a final warning.

The engines exploded and the craft shook violently. I knew what to expect, and according to the readings on the computer everything was still operating as expected. I just couldn't have imagined it feling like this. The roar of the engines drowned out all sound, and the gravitational forces pulling me down stopped me from pysically sensing anything else.

I can see the outer layer of the atmosphere getting closer, we must have left cloud cover pretty quickly. The sky gets darker and darker. The craft starts to burn from the friction and the shaking gets worse, and then the presure reaches it's peak, until finally... silence.

"Control? we made it, over", Evan declared happily into the radio.

"Control?", Evan's smile quickly dissipated.

"Whats going on?", i said. "we made it right?".

"Control, can you read me, this is Evan Cross of the Olimar, over", Evan said once more into the radio. "shit... I think all we can do is wait for now...".

"At least we made it through, right?", Charles said trying to calm the situation.

"What's with that white ash on the window?", I asked.

"Yeah that's really odd is'nt it... Probably from the fire, you'd think they'd want to avoid things like that" Charles replied.

"Control, can you read me, over" Evan yelled into the radio. "what the hell's goin' on" he muttered in frustration.

I suddenly spotted something in the distance. It seems the white ash covering the window wasn't ash at all. It was something else... all i can see is white, except for a dark hole in the distance.
The hole looks like a tear though a piece of paper. Inside of the hole i can see the clouds, as if im looking down on our planet through a small opening. Everything else is infinately bright, but it doesnt burn the eyes. Did we pierce though this white... thing?

"Charles...", I said pointing at the window.

"What the hell is that?", Charles replied.

"I think... space, wasn't what we thought it was..."

It feels silly to criticize this, so I wont. It is what it is.

I will just edit this post from now on.

I'm done, faces are interesting to play with, so I got allot of them there... but I believe that's it.

And then another one:

5 colors again, disregarding black and white.
#125
I really missed having a colorball around.. here's another one.

pretty simple, 5 colors.

That's some great news! I can barely find AGS games that interest me anymore, I'm glad your still working on this drake.
#127
I support this, in spite of the massive risk of it becoming steams' trash-can.
#128
another one

Maybe there isn't enough face though.

6 colors

I hope its evident, but if you need to guess, and want to, don't highlight the spoiler until... well, you know.

What bothers me most is that I agree with the negative comments about my games more than I agree with the positive.

It's a problem.
It's not that much of a problem really. the positive comments tend to not hold any criticism. as such they don't make you question yourself. Thus, they impede your progress. Skarkys comment is truly a gift.

Those of you who read the interview at the Reticule will know that, rein, in some convoluted way, has its roots set firmly in an old discarded idea of mine called "The Fraxto Mystery". If you wish to satisfy your curiosity about the game in some way, Ive decided to upload some of the art that was created for the game before I realized that the story lacked substance and decided to move on.

What Ive displayed here is part of the opening sequence with some basic character art, also the title screen (there you can see where the style of the rein title stems from).

Oh, and click the thumbnail to see them in full resolution.

It was a pretty decent experience. I do feel a bit forced upon by the story's depth as it felt a bit unnecessary to string me along a love-story where there is a big lack of playtime in which to pull me through.

I found the gesture system interesting and I played the game as a ghost.

The primary post has be updated, read it now and get the scoop on current events.

I've found it difficult to find an answer to this problem but hopefully it's simple.

I want text that appears in game to be written out, like... any game handles text. I simply want each character to appear in sequence at variable speeds.
I know it's possible and perhaps ridiculously easy, so how could I implement such a function?

Rein is featured in the "Indie" section of PC Gamer's (UK edition) cover-mounted DVD this month. :)

EDIT: And the "Freeware" section of PC Zone's cover-mounted DVD.

are you sure? I'm finding it hard to verify this... but if it is true, id love a copy of that DVD.
Is this the one? http://www.pcgamer.com/2010/08/03/pc-gamer-uk-september-issue-dragon-age-2/
If so, I'd really like to order one.

The game is really beautiful. even though the writing and plot are not that interesting the animation really makes up for that in a big way.

I'm not going to say I want you to make more per say, but perhaps that the technology sure would be interesting if it was in an actual game as a dialogue mechanic. Although, after watching the making of video... for a larger project there must be a faster pipeline to get the vertex data in there just for your sanity's sake.

great work AJA, everything, the game, video, all good.

General Discussion / Re: @AGS

I don't really understand the point of connecting websites with facebook and twitter at all. Because of that I would say that AGS should not have a twitter account since it has a freakin' website anyway. You really seem to dabble in redundancy quite a bit.
