AGS Games in Production / Re: Breakage

At their current size they are not representative of how they appear "in game"...

I would suggest making them clickable to the full-size images (since at full size they would be too big for some resolutions).

Thanks for the update.  When you have the screenshots let me know and we'll unlock this.

It is with an extremely heavy heart that I must now lock this.

Ghost, if you're out there somewhere...

... and I will [so very] happily unlock this!

Congrats on finishing!!

I wanted to put my two cents in here...

I think, at this point, we've solidified that this wasn't just a witch-hunt but since we've made the issue public I'd like to just shed some light on what happened here.

The topic was raised (sock-puppet accounts) for a completely different reason/member and it brought the topic into focus.  I had suspected for sometime (in the GiP) that the two accounts (PassionatePatty and Kimbra) were "fishy".  Now it wasn't anything personal, mind you.  I've been moderating that board for 8 years now [damn].  I read/monitor every thread (and I even occasionally go 5-10 pages deep locking old/dead threads, etc).  I know who the most active posters are and their posting habits.  I noticed that these two accounts always (and only) posted in Anas' threads.  Had they actively posted in other threads I'd probably have never noticed.  I had no idea of the other accounts (even though some of them posted in the same threads).  So when the topic was raised I just asked, out of sheer curiosity, about PassionatePatty and Kimbra.  That's when the rest of the details were brought into the light.

I understand (and agree with my fellow moderators) about the seriousness of sock-puppet accounts and how they can damage (even destroy) an online community such as ours.  I was very hesitant at first about making this issue "public" as we did but it had become public before we really announced it anyway.

Do I think this activity is "ban" worthy?  Yes I do.  However, as some of you might know, I'm a bit of a stickler for the rules (nod).  Since we didn't technically have any rules in place in regards to sock-puppetry (even though I think it should be common sense that such actions are "wrong") I was hesitant to support banning as punishment but I can and do see why it could be necessary.  We went 'round and 'round on the topic which is one of the reasons why we decided to go public with it and feel out the community for their feelings on the matter.

ORIGINAL ALL THE WAY!!!

Half Life was/is one of the greatest games of all time!  The story, the gameplay, the pacing, the everything.

If you can play it in a totally dark room on a big screen with surround sound you will have a great experience!  (the graphics are, admittedly, a tad "aged" now but as we routinely show around AGS it's not all about the graphics!!)

OMG!!!  THEY TOOK SOMETHING THAT DOESN'T (SHOULDN'T) HAVE HIP-HOP IN IT AND PUT HIP-HOP IN IT!!

How incredibly original.

I liked the over all humor/jokes but I want to make a world-wide plea to ANY body that makes movies/skits/entertainment:

NEW RULES:
1) STOP putting hip-hop into things that don't (shouldn't) have it just to make it seem "funny" ... it was funny 15 years ago for about 2 months, now it is just rotten ugnaught flesh.
2) STOP putting non-actors (musicians/athletes) into things that require, you know, acting.  They suck, and will ruin it.
3) STOP making old people say "shocking" things (or speaking "urban") again, as with #1 above, it was funny about 10 years ago for about 3 months now it's dried up and moldy bantha poodoo.
4) STOP coming up with an idea that you think is great and just dropping it in without considering how lame it might actually be.

k, thanks.

No worries.  For now, we'll just lock it (that way people can still see it, just can't post to it!).  When/if you're ready I'll prune our conversation and reopen the thread!

Good luck!  If you have any more questions feel free to PM me!

Sadly it is not.  Check out a few of the other threads (and the example threads).  You need two in-game shots.  None of these look like they are in-game.  The first is the closest but it's more of a promotional poster for the game (no GUIs, cursors, etc).  The other two look like character art only.  If you don't have two actual game backgrounds then you weren't ready for a GiP thread just yet and we'll lock this until you're ready!

Looks/sounds interesting!

However, please review the forum rules for posting in the Games in Production Board (notably the "two in-game screen shots" that are required) and update your first post accordingly!

General Discussion / Re: Taking criticism...
Mon 13/08/2012 17:15:42
Yeah I've noticed that the type of crit varies from place to place.  I find the crits I've gotten here to be mostly constructive and helpful.  While other places, like Pixel Joint, tend to be rude/harsh (which I don't consider helpful).

I remember specifically the work I'd done on a background for Amulet of Kings that I thought was so amazing!!  Then loominous showed me just how much I still had to learn!  Rather than getting offended at my suckiness I dove in head first with his technique and made the background(s) just that much better!

I can't understand why people post something and get all offended at the little critiques.  Especially when they posted asking for it!  If you can't stand the heat...

I think it's actually pretty normal to get upset by negative critique (even if it's constructive criticism).  You spent a lot of time creating something and you want everybody to like/enjoy it so you're disappointed if/when they don't.

However, for me, I find it unrealistic to expect all positive critique.

I've spent my entire life (since I can remember) drawing, creating, etc. and my entire professional career has been in a creative field.  The point is that I'm very used to criticism of my work and I've received my fair share of negative remarks.  I can honestly say it's not something you ever really get "used" to ... but it doesn't really sting as much as it used to.  Honestly; good constructive criticism (even negative, as long as constructive) is, to my mind, the best way to improve on something and to learn and move forward!

Having said that if somebody makes a comment like, "this sucks" or "what a waste of my time" ... something like that.  I just ignore it.  If they can't take the time to offer up the why of what they've said then I assume it's just a troll looking for attention and I don't feed trolls.
