Congrats on finishing Grundi!

I can't believe we've entered an era where there are no more Ben Jordan games in production...

General Discussion / Re: The scariest monster

Personally I found PeeWee Herman far more creepy and scary than Large Marge.

Okay okay... enough fun!  Let's get back on topic.

You need two in game screenshots (those two shots are the same).

Please update the post to include a second screenshot or this will have to be locked until you have one!

Much thanks my man!  Good luck on the project!

The idea sounds ... interesting.

This makes me sad... well if it ever finds its way back to AGS let me know and we can unlock this.
Received a PM... and am happy again!!
#1066
Say it isn't so!!!

Is this an AGS game in production or not?

The main issue I have with the image is the perspective.  The bench follows a perspective that doesn't match the 1/2 pipe behind it so that jumps out as "wrong" when viewing the BG.  Also, because the bench (and 1/2 pipe) follow some perspective lines (albeit not the same ones! ;)) the sidewalk "texture" does not so it looks more like a flat wall that the bench is attached to.  I know it would be a pain to adapt that texture to a perspective (though not too difficult) another way to give the illusion of depth would be to use a gradient and fade the sidewalk as it moves away from the camera.  Last critique would be the color of the fence.  It's a saturated color and sort of blends in to the graffiti too much.

I think (the few issues I listed aside) it's a functional background for an adventure game though!

Congratulations on finishing!  I have added a link (in the first post) to the completed game's thread!

We're getting off-topic in here.  Please take the font discussion to PMs.

** updated first post with new screenshots - thanks for adding them **

I did some mini-golf graphics a few years back... was it for this?  It's "ringing a bell" but I can't quite put the pieces together in my brain...

And I definitely remember DevCo Quest (love me some ISO!!)... weren't you James Kay back then though?

If you want "critics" on you WIP background please post in the critics lounge.  This is not the correct place for it.
#1073
STOP!

Take the off-topic stuff to PMs please.

Carry on [topic].

Meh... it's getting away from itself here.  I feel like it's losing the symmetry it needs to be easily readable.

If you want to put 5 icons in the "grate" area I would suggest changing the divisions of the grate to make it fit better.

Something like this (done extremely quickly and sloppily, just to show the concept):

NOTE: the inventory box I resized to make it more of a size with the other main options so you might need/want to re-pixel it!

These are just suggestions.  This just has a more "correct" feel to me.  Feel free to use/not use as you sit fit.

Quote from: monkey_05_06 on Thu 28/06/2012 17:48:48Of course I'm not going to try selling it, but to be honest, if I want to back up my shows onto a DVD, then I'm not even about to think of feeling shameful for doing so.

Nor should you!  You paid for the content, it's yours to do with what you will.  In fact I think you're justified in selling it too (as long as you don't keep a copy for yourself or make many copies to sell).  But if you wanted to sell it to a friend or something that's your right to do.  Copyright has gotten RIDICULOUSLY warped and perverted from its original intent.  Now it's just used to keep the money going into the pockets of corporations rather than sparking innovation and creativity as it was originally intended to do.  Shame really.

Apple are doing the same thing hiding behind the guise of "benevolent tech giant" and brilliant marketing ploys (and believe me I applaud their marketing ploys).  They use the lame excuse (and all their sheep ... er I mean mac snobs ... er I mean mac lovers love to bleat it out as well) of, "we want to keep the platform secure and have standards".  Uh-huh... rrrright!  And I have some nice lunar property with great views of the sea of tranquility to sell you.

If I go into Barnes & Noble and buy a copy of a book and read it through I can then hand it to my girlfriend and she can read it too.  Nobody chimes in about "stealing" and nobody claims "copyright infringment" or "piracy" bitching.  So why, when I purchase an eBook through iTunes, must my girlfriend ALSO purchase it if she wants to read it on her device?  It's ludicrous and greedy.  Jailbreak your device and you can share the books like you should be able to in the first place.  One of these days these greedy pigs are going to clue in to the fact that when you screw your customers over enough they will find ways to get around it (piracy).

I have a huge bone to pick with the book publishers too ... though maybe that's for another thread :)

Ahhhh my favorite subject (nod)

I've reached a point now where I'm just smiling happily while watching as these big companies pile more and more logs on their own funeral pyres.

It's extremely satisfying.

As for iTunes there are easy ways around the DRM they force on you (and it's not "illegal").  You paid for that content and it's not up to Apple (or any company) to tell you what you can or can't do with it. So long as you don't try to "sell" it of course!

It's why I jailbreak ALL my iDevices.  I paid for that device. Apple doesn't get to decide what I am allowed to put on it.  It's mine, not theirs, and I'll put what I want on it.

I honestly don't understand why people tolerate this behavior (probably has something to do with the brilliant marketing Apple uses (like Anian stated) where people still seem to feel "elite" when they whip out their iPhones).  I mean it's like if Honda sells you a car but tells you "you can't go over 65mph" and "you can't drive it on any roads we don't approve of".

It's ridiculous.

The "novelty" of iDevices is going to wear off (hopefully soon) and Apple is  going to find themselves in trouble when that happens.

THIS IS NOT THE CRITICS LOUNGE
How many times must this be said?

If you don't have anything helpful to say (in this thread) just don't post.  ANY more off-topic and/or "critic" posts are going to be pruned.

AGS Games in Production / Re: Crazy Mansion

Sounds like you're WAY too early in development for a Games in Production thread!  Please review the Board Rules and if you're able to comply send me a PM and we'll unlock this!

Good luck!

Critics' Lounge / Re: Tell me honestly....

- resized the headlight options so they weren't over-lapping the edges of the headlights (MARGINS PEOPLE!!!)
- shifted the headlights so they "fit" better in the housings
- moved inventory to the plate area
- increased size of the ... dark grey things... on the sides of the plate and move the score to the left and the "close" option to the right one
- wasn't sure what the checkerboard pattern thingee (to the left of the walk icon) was so I left it alone and cloned it for the right side

This (to my eyes) creates MUCH better symmetry and just makes it read easier.  Just some ideas.

The "save", "open", "options" and "?" ... they need to be resized so they fit comfortably into the headlights.  They look very awkward overlapping the edges as they do.

Also the inventory box and the "whatever" it is shadow thing on the left... those should be moved as they don't "fit" aesthetically in their current positions.  Maybe move the inventory down to the license plate (where the score (?) currently is) and move the score to the bumper area.

All-in-all I really like the concept of this GUI ... it's just needs a lot of polishing to make it "work".  Good luck!
