We are getting a tad off-topic here... let's try to stay on track pretty please!

Yes, the images must be posted as part of the thread (visible).  Please find a host pronto!

Thanks!

I was going to edit your first post to include a few of the screenshots from your link but it's been removed.  When you have the second screenshot available send me a PM and I'll re-open the thread!

Thanks!
#1344
Please [re]update the first post ... it only contains one screenshot and must, by the rules, have two (in-game) screenshots.

Thanks.

Okay... well when you have the second screenshot available shoot me a PM and I'll re-open this thread!  Thanks!

I think these kinds of topics aren't intended to be, "hey you should feel sad that X died".

Rather, they are more of a way for the person who posted it (who obviously mourns the loss of the deceased) to get some comfort from his "friends" online.

I am not (have never been) a fan of Jackass and wouldn't have known this guy's name if you'd asked me before he made this horrible decision but that doesn't mean I can't offer Mouth for War my sympathies since this death affected him.

Since 1) the production is stopped and 2) the first post has no screenshots; I'm going to lock this.

When you've restarted production (and can add the screenshots to the first post) send me a PM and I will unlock this.

You should make a post in the Completed Games forum!  You'll get more responses there ^_^

Congrats on finishing!!

I'm sure you already know this but make sure you don't change your password from the link in the email telling you about the "illegal access"...

This is a scam [supposedly] from China.  They send official looking eMails that appear to come from google and then provide a link to change your password.  They spoof the gmail login page and voila, they have your login/password.

It's a good idea to regularly change/update your password(s) anyway but just make sure you login directly and not from that email.

Yeah I was (am) a bit bummed about the "new" web-design delay.  I put quite a bit of time/effort into that to get it to where it ended.  However (and I know it's not really the same here) I'm quite used to that kind of thing in my profession.  Things often get put on the back-burner like that!  I have countless stories of pouring my blood, sweat, and tears into a project and then "they" never use it.

Having said that I'd still really like to see the new site be pushed live!

Saw this over at the Joint ... oddly it's just as good here ;)

Bang up job to you and your team!

Seriously?

Yes, I instructed you to split this out of the other thread.  However, you still need to follow the forum rules.

PM with a second (different and in-game screen shot and I'll unlock this).

If you're going to start new threads for any of those other games make sure they follow the rules.  I've come down on you for this time and time and time and time and time again so there's zero tolerance.  You post without following the rules the thread(s) will just be locked.

• I have unlocked this since you PM'd me the second screenshot (you forgot you needed 2?  Even after I have locked 20 of your threads for that very reason?).
• I have updated the content of the original post so that it actually makes [some kind of] sense.
• You do not need to only update the first post (unless you want to) you just need to follow the rules (one game per thread).
• If you feel the need to reply to this post, send it via PM... it doesn't belong in this thread.

First; since it's only data/info that changes weekly I'd say render a file and let that be the source (rather than multiple hits to the db).  That would be my advice.  Just make sure you have the system in place so that if/when you do update the information it immediately updates the file(s) so it's always current and up-to-date (bad data is bad ;)).

Secondly; it's fine to have the page hit the db server but 'efficiency-wise' it really depends on the type of information, the complexity of the querying being done, and/or the amount of traffic the page(s) will get.  I mean if it's a crazy-complex query that takes some time to run then obviously you're better off with the above advice ... but just small stuff each individual user isn't going to notice the 53ms time-difference one way or another :)

I am working on a site now that renders out pages (over 8500 of them total) and never touches the DB after the initial file creation (well in some places, but not the bulk of the rendered pages).  It works very well and does decrease the over all server-load.

General Discussion / Re: Problems with Steam

You paid for those 30+ games.  They have NO right to take them from you.  They bitch about piracy = stealing and then they steal from you.  It's the exact ridiculous hypocrisy that is why I am a peg-legged-eye-patched-and-proud Pirate.  The industry needs to wake the f**k up and realize that the ONLY people their anti-piracy nonsense affects are their legitimate customers.  We pirates don't suffer in the slightest from their gestapo tactics.  In fact what they did is worse.  Because you don't have your games (that you paid for).  Piracy doesn't deprive them of their product, their thievery deprives you of things you've paid for.  And they get away with it.  It's disgusting.

You should NEVER EVER EVER x 10 have signed that bullshit from Lucas Arts/Steam admitting to piracy because now you have no leg to stand on, sadly.

I love the irony that in trying to stamp out piracy all they do is create more pirates.

I'm afraid that now you have no choice.

They have forced you into my world.

The peg-leg takes a little getting used to but the parrots are a hoot.

General Discussion / Re: Getting a bit scared.

You actually made me a tad nostalgic there!

I [actually fondly] remember the days of having not a penny to pinch.  I lived off raman noodles and mac 'n cheese for years!

It seems stressful and yes, scary but you'll get through it.  I just got to a point where I said "I can only do what I can" and didn't let the other stuff get me down.  I always found a way through and I'm sure you will too.

The trick is to prioritize your finances.  Rent and car payment were top of the list; then food, then cellphone, then 'fun' stuff like a social life and/or internet access.  And I just had to convince myself that raman and mac'n cheese were 5 star cuisine!!

The truth is that I treasure those times/experiences.  They shaped me and make me appreciate [daily] where I'm at now.  I never thought, at the time, I'd feel that way about them in the future but that was just because I didn't have a group of forum friends to tell me back then ;)

Hang tough man ... you'll get through it!  Just keep your eye on the prize!
