I'm not going to go into the silly argument about, "The US is only nation to ever use nuclear weapons".

As for the modern-day threat of nuclear devastation I often use this quote:

"I'm not afraid of the man who wants ten nuclear weapons, Colonel. I'm terrified of the man who only wants one."
- Julia Kelly (Nicole Kidman) from The Peacemaker (1997)

Kim Jong Ill might be a bat-shit insane lunatic, but his arsenal of nukes doesn't concern me.  It's more a defensive weapon than offensive in my opinion.  I think most nations, now, that want nukes only want them so they can do other shit and hide behind their nuclear weapons.  Or as a deterrent for any invasion-minded neighboring countries.  I'm far more concerned about the religious nut-bag that just wants one small "dirty" bomb and access to a large city somewhere.

As for this:

Quote from: Domino on Wed 24/03/2010 22:40:49I am probably alone on this one, but when playing Fallout 3, I always say to myself that I wish I could live in this world.

You're not alone, seconded!  There's something about it that, for whatever strange reason, is appealing to me too!  I also want to live on Serenity will Mal and the gang.  Though I'd have to kill Simon so Kaylee would be mine.  Maybe I'll use a nuke?  Obviously it's in my nature :P

Yo!  The backup drive I have at home turned up nothing!  I have an old desktop computer (still in storage from when I moved) that might have some old[er] ones on it.  As soon as I can dig it out I'll check it for you!

You're probably right!  I played real rough'n tumble with perspective and shading.  I did that paint-over in about 10 minutes ... just to give some suggestions.

The problem (for me) is lack of details.  I did a really quick paint-over to add some depth/details

- add some sidewalk details (slabs)
- moved the door "up" to create depth
- shrank the window and surrounded it with some architecture
- altered the light/reflections on the glass
- altered the pillars
- added some "brick" lines

It's a very steep perspective but should be functional as a background.  I didn't pay much attention to a light source or shading.  Was just droppin' some details in there so when you put the final touches on your image you should give some more love to that than I did in my paint-over :)

Hope it helps in some way!

I experience this frequently actually.

What I do to get around it are two things:

1) post in the CL ... the help that you [can sometimes] get in there can be invaluable!  I took a pic I had made (years ago) in there and the progression/improvement was so good that I felt I had made a step (or five) forward!  The final result was so much better'n my original (which wasn't too shabby I don't mind saying).  The CL here isn't the only place to get critique by any means ... I tend to avoid asking my friends though 'cause they really only praise (which doesn't really help, other than feel good).

2) study ... I constantly study other forms of art (mostly pixel art, but still valid).  I see how others use their colors/palettes and how they hi-light and shade things, etc.  I see how they do proportions and perspectives.  If I'm trying a new style out I will mimic their style at first, and eventually it blends into my own style and, I feel, I improve again!

I know the frustration though.  It's annoying to feel ... stagnate.  Hope this helps in some small way!

Good luck!

I might be able to dig up some of my old entries ... but I don't have any other people's entries.

Quote from: bbX1138 on Mon 15/03/2010 23:27:41Darth Mandarb - I have already read the forum rules. The rule I assume you're referring to, states: "If you're interested in an old thread about a project don't post asking about the progress.  Send a PM to the game's author.  If the project has been cancelled and/or abandoned there's no point in bumping the thread!" As I was providing new information about the project - namely that an alpha build has been made and is looking promising - and I already knew that the project has not been cancelled or abandoned, I don't believe I'm in contravention of the letter or spirit of this rule. Furthermore, my post garnered an official release date for the project, so I'd argue it was a relevant and useful one.

Congratulations on reading the rules!!

Now don't do that (dig up a thread) again.

Even if you feel it is relevant and/or warranted and/or "in the spirit" just don't do it.  PM the author first.

k thanks.

BACK ON TOPIC PEOPLE.

edit - Off-topic/rule debate posts were removed.  If any of you want to discuss the rules send me a PM rather than more off-topic cluttering up in here.

markbilly - Thanks for the update (save the thread from being locked).

bbX1138 - Read the forum rules before posting again please.  Do not dig up threads

The type of place is not so important to me.  I don't mind bunkin' with another fella, just don't want to share a rack is all.

Sylpher and I managed well in Miami (even with his sawin' logs!), CJ tolerated my laptop movies all night long in Poland and Quintaros and I chatted to the wee hours in France.  If we do end up having to share beds I call Nacho as my room-mate.  He's tiny and will spend the night humping my leg anyway.

I'm feelin' like I'll probably fly into Rome and rent a car there so I'll most likely have a car at Mittens which we can all share as needed.  If anybody else wants to meet up in Rome (as we did in Paris) we could road-trip together to where-ever the final Mittens location might be.

I think, for now, I will say it's just gonna be me.

This is a new girlfriend and I'm not sure she'll even be around by the end of July (most women only have a 2-3 month tolerance for being around me).  I don't want to secure the spot to the exclusion of AGSers.  If the Gods are kind to me and I've actually found a woman who sticks around we'll see if there's room when the time comes.

As for the location(s) ... I'm okay with either I think.  Disco's link is slightly closer to Rome but AGA's is closer to Pisa (both places I'd like to day-trip to while there)  I might fly into Rome and spend a day (or three) there before Mittens maybe.  Oh these decisions ... I'm okay with either of those places but I think the one with the higher capacity might be a better option?

Don't be impatient.  Read the forum rules.

Dan - I'm locking this since there's been no update in 7 months.  If you want to update it, let me know, and I'll unlock it.

Meh ... we all know my proclivities about dealing with "offenders" :)  So I'll bow out of the 'right or wrongs of this stunt' discussion as it's just a matter of personal feelings.

I know that through my life I've experienced some extremely humiliating situations/events (and been jeered/teased viciously too) and I'd rather feel all that humiliation and jeering combined every day for the rest of eternity than feel the way being cheated on feels even one more time.

I just read the transcript and the awards page wiki ... I had no idea I had won an award!  Golly!

Thanks very much to the committee and to those lovely comments on the transcript!

Thanks again!

I find the airing of extremely personal matters uncomfortable in almost all cases however, when it comes to cheaters, they deserve to be humiliated like this.  It makes me feel uncomfortable either way, but cheaters deserve it (in my opinion).

I find cheating to be despicable and think (aside from physical violence) that all forms of humiliation are fair-game.

To hear this "woman" say that she loves him and wants to spend forever with him all the while knowing she's cheating on him?  Bitch.

He should have invited her entire family out to dinner and done this stunt in front of all of them.  That might be enough to equal what she deserved.

DISCLAIMER: Having been cheated on before I admit to being slightly biased on this subject so if I'm offending anybody, I apologize

I love 'stunts' like this for some reason!

Man or woman, I love seeing a cheater put in their place (probably 'cause I've been cheated on and know how it feels.  In case you don't know; it's quite horrible).  As long as it doesn't involve physical violence I think it's a case of the cheater getting what they deserve.

My favorite, recent one, was: guy dumps girl instead of proposing. She thought he was going to propose.

So priceless.

It's a long clip, but well worth the listen.  There's two sides to every story of course but judging by her reactions I'm inclined to side with the guy in this case.
