I'll kick that Spanish pixelpusher something fierce! ;D
Too bad you won't be there, M0ds. No movie this year, then...  :(

I say we make a movie anyway!  And m0ds can edit it for us!

I'm just wondering who will be the one to spend the night in an airport this year ... I had the privilege of it last year.

Can't wait to see everybody!

FYI - Nacho Lore and I are going to Orlando this weekend (to Disney World) ... if anybody is in the area and would like to come with us let me know!

A waitress brought me a free drink one time ... about 10 minutes later everything went black.  I have little flashes of memory the rest of the night (singing "Brown Eyed Girl" on the karaoke stage, the car door as I tried to open it (not driving), the exit sign off the express way, the side of my house (I am guessing I decided to have a piss on the side of the house for some reason), and then my pillow rushing towards my head very fast as I passed out.  I awoke the next day with [one of] the worst hangovers in history!

This, ladies and gentlemen, is what happens when you get roofied (among other things).

Luckily my tooshy was not sore and my wallet was still full so I am sure I wasn't raped and/or robbed.  My friend was with me so he basically kept an eye on me (though apparently I hid my near-comatose state very well as he didn't know it was as bad as it was)

I went back and asked the waitress about it (she was a 'friend' (sort of - we were at this bar all the time and we knew this waitress)) and she said the drink had been for another table of girls and they had left so she offered it to me.  She said she explained this to me when she gave it to me but I was already pretty drunk so I didn't remember.  I was kind of hoping she had done it to me on purpose 'cause she was totally hot (though I'd rather remember her taking advantage of me).

Needless to say, from that day till now, I do not accept drinks that I didn't order.

Quote from: Meowster on Wed 17/06/2009 23:14:19I would love to hear an unbiased and educated opinion on it, simply because the whole thing perplexes me.
The unbiased opinion I can provide.  How educated it is I am not so sure ;)  I am impartial to Adkins.  I think it works for some, and not for others.  For example; my mum was on Atkins for about 2 years and lost (in the first 5-6 months) over 30lbs and maintained it (she's smallish so that's a substantial amount of weight for her!)  My father, who did the exact same diet as her (at the same time) lost almost no weight on it (about 10lbs, and he's largish like me so that's very little weight for him).  Again, as I said above ... I think it's a matter of certain "diets" work for certain people and not for others.  I believe that human physiology varies too much for there to be one diet/eating plan that is "best".  I, personally, never tried Adkins 'cause I couldn't live without bread :)

This is, of course, just an opinion (or suspicion) on my part as I'm not a nutritionist or doctor.  I'm just basing the opinion on my own experience and off of witnessing those around me.

Haha!  Stupid internet conversion calculator!

I'm 6'4" / 1.94m ... why oh why can't we (the US) just convert to the [logical, makes more sense] metric system!?!

I practice what I call the "moderation" plan.  It's not really eating only specific foods (though I do tend to develop a routine of eating the same things - which I have to break occasionally!) it's more about simple moderation of what I eat.  The famous "counting calories" idea.

The "Eating Plan" (I don't like the term "diet")
Sunday - Friday I maintain an intake of about 1800-2000 calories a day.  I avoid all fried foods and get a balance of chicken, turkey, and veggies.  I eat very little red meat (but on occasion I do crave it and don't deny myself).  I cannot cut cheese out entirely, but I do severely limit my consumption of it.  I eat no fastfood (McDonalds, Wendy's, Burger King, etc) except, on rare occasions, I do love me some taco bell!! (more on that in a bit).  I eat almost no candy (the occasional bag of peanut m&ms).  It's very difficult to maintain this at first but after awhile it's easy.  I don't even crave stuff anymore.  They have donuts here every morning and I don't even look at them anymore.

Exercise Routine
On Monday, Wednesday, and Friday I weight-train (on the bowflex), and on all days I do cardio (elliptical, jump-rope, rollerblading, etc.) I prefer working out in the morning (before work) but many believe working out in the evening achieves better results.  I could go either way on that one so I stick with my morning routines.

My Secret
Every saturday is my "cheat day" where I take the day off.  I don't workout (though sometimes I still get in a workout) and I eat whatever I want!  I might even eat some Taco Bell (Toxic Hell!) as mentioned above!  Once a month (on a saturday) I order a pizza!  Now, pizza every day still tastes good ... but there is no pizza that tastes better than that one you have only every so often.  It's awesome!

I started this life-style on my 30th birthday after seeing my fat-ass 250lbs (~114 kilos) in a mirror.  After less than a year of this life-style I had dropped 50lbs and maintain a very healthy 200lb (~91 kilos) weight which I am still maintaining today.  I am a big guy (6'4 or 1.83m1.94m (thanks Arboris - that's what I get for trusting an internet conversion calculator!)) if anybody was wondering :)

I think human beings, though of course similar, vary too much to have a specific method that is "best" for maintaining a healthy life-style.  You have to figure out what works for you.  For me it's counting calories and just overall moderation but I know of several friends who this method does nothing for (though I suspect they are cheating!)

To quote the incomparable Alf

ALF "I'm trying a new diet ... you eat as much as you want, of whatever you want, whenever you want"
LYNNE "And you lose weight that way?"
ALF "You do?"

So ... you knew you were breaking the rules, but you dug up a 6 month old thread anyway to ask a question about your game?  The next time you get inspired to break the rules send a PM.

Zabnat - are you still working on this game?  If you are not I'm going to lock it (and will unlock it later if you pick it back up).  There's no sense leaving it open (so it can be dug up again) if you're not working on it.  Thanks :)

General Discussion / Re: Google Wave

Quote from: Andail on Thu 04/06/2009 12:06:53I'm getting gradually less intrigued by the brand new communication/networking systems. It's like everyone has this urge to be online everywhere, all the time, to read and share everything at once, to be in perpetual contact with everyone you know, and everyone they know, and get updated in real time about everyone's opinions and moods and states and emoticons or whatnot.

Amen!  While I admit I am a fan of facebook (it's really nice to be able to keep in touch (or reconnect) with old friends I've not seen in years I despise the constant status updates.  So'n So is brushing her teeth ... So 'n So is done brushing her teeth and is headed to work ... So 'n So is at work ... So 'n So is working ...

Enough already!!

As for Google Wave ... as I stated earlier, anytime a company starts getting "big" (as somebody in here already hinted at Google reminding them of Microsoft) I think it's natural for a lot of people to jump instantly on the "must be bad!  I don't trust it and I don't like it" band-wagon.  That's fine.  To each their own.

If the final product is anything like the demo I watched I'll gladly use it and enjoy it.

Please undestand I'm not accusing anybody in here of jumping on that bandwagon (though it does seem likely) ... every person is entitled to like or dislike things as they choose and it's not my place to try to convince them otherwise.  I haven't used Google Wave, I might dislike it when I do use it (doubt it) but from what I've seen it looks shiny.

Quote from: InCreator on Wed 03/06/2009 18:10:10Then i thought about how would this make a revolution in the glorious art of spam.
I don't like it so much anymore.

Actually I see it as the perfect way to get rid of spam.

This isn't an upgrade to email.  It's an entirely new electronic communication medium and if there is one thing Google knows how to do it's prevent spam.  In the many years I've been using Gmail I can count on one (maybe two) hands the number of Spam emails that have actually made it into my inbox.  This is the next [r]evolution.  I am no longer wondering why Gmail never came out of BETA.

The nay-saying new technology bandwagon is fun and easy to jump on ... but I really think this thing is going to be huge.  If I'm wrong I'll admit it but I'm not worried about being wrong on this one.

Please review the forum rules and PM me when you're ready to update this thread!

Thanks!

Update is coming ... please do not comment on the rules!

manos461 - I appreciate the effort ... however, that screenshot is not "in game" it is a menu screen!  I'm not going to re-lock the thread but, please, update with at least 2 "in game" screenshots (showing backgrounds, guis, characters, cursors, things like that!)  Thanks.

Many thanks!  Good luck with the game.

When I heard "Google Wave - a new communication tool" I said, "hmmm, wave, firefly, communication... I wonder??"  Then I watched the video and within 15 minutes they used the expression "shiny" and then when they experience a crash it says "Ahhh ... curse your sudden but inevitable betrayal!"  The entire thing is a big Firefly reference and for that alone I'll use it!

That being said...

I watched the entire video (the other day) and I have to say I agree.  This really could totally revolutionize not only "email" but the web in general.  I think if there's one company/entity that has the clout to pull something like this off, it's Google.  I don't see it happening over night, but I'm on board and can't wait to see where this goes!

You all can disregard my PM :)  I can get the information from the first post!  D'oh!

I can't believe nobody has mentioned making a game from the show Firefly.

I have been thinking about making [wanting to make] the game for years ... Even made some sprites:

Some of the action-y sequences might not make a good adventure game ... but the heist/thieving stuff could be really effective.  Planning heists, then executing them, solving all the puzzles, etc.  Now I just need to finish my other two games first ... so I'll make my Firefly game by 2021.

Quote from: jetxl on Sat 30/05/2009 02:09:55Darth, the reason why Kirk bumps into old Spock is because of the reoccuring theme of destiny throughout the fiml, like Sulu being asigned as pilot because he's replacing a guy that got space-worms or something. Even though it's a different universe, Kirk and crew are destined to become part of the enterprise. Old Spock says so and his logic is never flawed.

Yeah I get the destiny part ... but logic would dictate going to the man-made Federation base (shelter) and they would still [destiny-ly] meet there.  Destiny would dictate that they meet, not necessarily where they meet.  I don't know, I guess it's just personal preference.  I think their meeting would be just as powerful/meaninful had the monster chased Kirk to the base and Spock chased it off for him there.  But both of them ending up in some random cave on a large planet?  Meh.  I suspend disbelief when I go see a movie, but there are limits to my suspension ;)

I loved Karl Urban's character of Bones.  It was, for me, the best character in the movie.  I didn't like that he made the age-old comment about "blood boiling" when you are exposed to the vacuum of space (which is just not what would happen).  But this too might have been intentional on Abrams part to use an old sci-fi standard line.

Quote from: Trent R on Sat 30/05/2009 04:03:29I've heard there are so many confusing plot twists and holes, but an enjoyable movie nonetheless.

Plot holes?  I don't think so.  But anytime you deal with time-travel plots there's always going to be those that find some kind of hole.  As far as confusing ... I must admit it took some thinking on my part to put it all together (again because of the time-travel aspect).  However ... I like movies that make me actually use my brain rather than a lot of the drivel hollywood puts out every month accommodating the brain-dead masses who only want Michael Bay brainless crap films.  ** shrugs **

Quote from: Mr Flibble on Sat 30/05/2009 16:00:11The fact that this was an homage rather than an individual film in its own right makes me forgive it for things that seem overly convenient.

Hmmm I think it is a film that stands on it's own as well as being an homage.  Just my personal opinion :)

I went into the theater expecting to be disappointed and I have to say I was pleasantly suprised!  I thought it was really, really, entertaining!

I think it was a brilliant way to do a "reboot" as it doesn't really just "throw away" the old stuff ... it just gives it a new start!  Had I been asked to write a reboot, this is a similar way I might have done it.

There was really only one thing that I didn't like:

Spoiler
Young Spock maroons Kirk on that planet near Vulcan ... Kirk running from a [cloverfield] monster just happens to run the correct direction, fall down a steep mountain side and end up in the exact cave that old Spock just happened to be in?  On this large planet they both just happen to find one another in the same cave?  And then, they go to the star base and Scotty just happens to be stationed there?   I hate when scripts do that kind of thing.  This could have easily been solved by Kirk finding his way to the Federation outpost, finds Old Spock there (where they would both, logically, go to seek shelter from the rough weather) and then, from there, they'd team-up to find out where Scotty is and go to that place and then teleport to the Enterprise (in Warp - which was way cool!)
[close]
But that's just a minor gripe as almost all movies do things like this.  And it is, after all, a movie!

Some things I thought were cool:

Spoiler
- The Red shirt that made the space-jump with them ... the expendable crew member!  I love that Abrams gave a nod to that old star trek cliche.
- The useless water tubes and "crushers" in the middle of the engineering section.  Another homage to the original series' tendency to put completely pointless objects into the plot
- Everybody is bitching about "red matter" but I loved it!  Nobody bitches about dilithium crystals which are every bit as arbitrary as red matter in my opinion.  I loved the addition.
[close]
Anyway ... bottom line, I was very impressed and really hope to see more!

I think it would be hilarious if at the start of the next on we see Kirk just screaming out "Khannnnnnnnnnnn!!" (ala Shatner in Wrath of Khan) and then Khan walks in and is like "What?" and Kirk says "Oh I thought you were farther away" and they have a friendly conversation.
