What about their legends?

The State I live (and work) in is "Right to Work" state (I believe that's the term).  Basically it means the company can fire you for whatever reason they want and there's nothing you can do about it.

I have to say that using the, "made redundant" excuse is most likely a cover-story the company is using to hide the fact that they are in financial trouble and need to remove the excess burden of a lot of salary/hourly positions.  I think this is evidenced by the fact that they removed you and another girl from your department and hired a temp to fill the void left (temps are always paid less and have no contract and are an interim solution until the company gets back on it's feet financially)

I am, of course, just speculating ...

I used to work for a company in Ft. Lauderdale that was having cash-flow problems and they laid off 12 employees to lessen the monies they were paying out as salary to these employees.  Then they hired two 'temps' the next week.  It's standard operating procedure.

Personally speaking I'd just move on and not waste any time/energy on it.

Just speaking for myself here ... I find nothing intuitive about having to jump on a box, then jump up even higher to shoot horizontally to destroy a baddie that I could easily crouch behind the box, take aim (diagonally), and destroy it that way.

This is, of course, just my opinion.  I find the lack of 'aiming' in the mega-man games to be a major design flaw.  They can put forth whatever reasoning they want (it is, after all, their game) but I see it as a flaw.

Unless you can shoot diagonally I'm not interested ... loved the originals back in the day, but the lack of aiming was ridiculous.

What a cool idea!

You've really spent some time on this.  Color me impressed!!

Great job!

It would be neat to have these videos tied into each game's entry in the AGS database! (with a spoiler alert of course!)

SQUINKY!!!!

Welcome back man!  As for recommended games; FoY, Amulet of Kings, Legend of the Lost Lagoon, Rise of the Hidden Sun ... oh wait, shit!!

Anyway, good to 'see' you again my friend!

Glad you're okay ...

I went through the same thing with Wilma a few years ago.  It sucks BIG time.

You keep thinking, "Well I'll just ... no I can't, no power.  Okay, then I'll ... no I can't do that either!"  Amazing how dependent we've become on technology and electricity.  After Wilma I actually talked to my neighbors!!

Anyway ... hang in there, going through all this will make you appreciate [more] the benefits we sometimes take for granted ;)

You know ... I've always found that statement hilarious! (not sure why really, I just love it)

I think we should adopt a new policy here on the AGS boards.  Whenever a troll comes along we should feed it!  With pictures of food!  Don't reply to the content of the troll's message, just give it the 'food' it so desperately needs!

Critics' Lounge / Re: Disney Website Design
Mon 15/09/2008 20:39:23
I don't have time for a paint-over here ... but there are some issue with the layout/design.

You have re-created the same problem that I have with most designs and that is inconsistent padding and margins.  Some parts of the design ride right up on the edges, some have a lot of space while others have a little space.  This makes the over-all design (to my eyes) a tad muddled and hard to follow/read.

Some suggestions:

- Unify the colors!  You have about 7 different shades of blue (background, logo area, nav background, bar across content top, 'partner site' headers, spotlight header/footer, and the box in the content area) this many colors disjoints the layout and makes it feel .. well ... disjointed.  This is sometimes the most difficult part of design is picking a palette that works together.  There are several websites out there you can use to aid in this (here's one I found on google in about 2 seconds)

- Navigation ... again, it's mostly color issues here.  The white is muddled on the shade of blue and mouseover color (International Disney) is very difficult to read.

- Borders ... there are some inconsistent borders (might be intentional) the tops are thicker in the main boxes.   The 'partner' sites boxes have thick[er] borders.  If this is intentional (and is how you want it) you can discard this part ... it just looks 'off' to my eyes.

- Header/Logo ... this part feels very unbalanced to me.  I don't dislike the simplicity of it, just the layout.  The blue-print looking castle in the background is huggin' the left, the logo is semi-centered (didn't get out a ruler) but the right part is empty.  I might suggest moving the search box (and a home/contact link) up into that empty area and then center the rest of the navigation.

- Fonts.  It appears there are several different fonts being used; the logo, the navigation, and the content appears to be using two similar (yet different (might just be bold/spacing issues)) fonts.  While this isn't always a no-no it can lead to the over-all disjointed feeling as well.

Over-all you have a functional (albeit not too original) layout ... just needs a bit of work to pull it all together.  My post might have come across as harsh, but I wouldn't have spent the time to type it if I didn't think you could make this even better :)

hope it helped!

found a few more minutes ...

- fixed the issue with the sunlight (thanks Ryan Timothy - I knew something looked off, it was done quickly!)
- added some of the objects back into the room

Sadly ... no more time!  Hope it helps.

I started a paint-over ... but I have run out of time (sorry)

I think I'll post as far as I got though:

- added a bit more 'detail' to the room (gradients, floor bards, texture, etc) to make it feel more 'full' (didn't get to add the details you already had in there though)

I don't know ... this is really just the style I use and is quite different from yours.  I just thought I'd offer up a suggestion!

Also

Quote from: Lt. Smash on Sat 13/09/2008 16:16:15The highlights on the wall seem wrong 'cause sunlight can't go upwards.

I'm no expert ... but if the sun is ridin' closer to the horizon (below the window line) the sunlight would go 'up' the wall.

That link goes to a website that has no more information than your post does.  Just that somebody is making a re-make of KQ8.  There are no screenshots, no mockups, no character art, nothing.  There is a link to a forums that has ONE post with some dude whining about it not being gory ...

I think this is another example of somebody jumping-the-gun and announcing an idea before they have anything actually done.

I'm just glad they didn't post in the Games in Production board!

No offense to anybody anticipating this game but, judging by the quality of the website and the total lack of any substance, my guess is this'll go no further than a whisper of a rumor.

Dear god ...

Don't apologize. Just don't do this again.  Send a PM (just as the rules say) to the author.

Fovmester - if you're still out there and working on this and want to post an update let me know and I'll unlock it.

Most excellent!

I'm also quite partial to: http://www.hasthelargehadroncolliderdestroyedtheworldyet.com/

Silly people ... check out his eyes, and given the context of this thread it's clearly a razor.

DO NOT POST IN THOSE THREADS
IF THEY ARE OVER 90 DAYS INACTIVE!!

If you have interest in the progress of these games please PM the author of them rather then bumping them.

There ... that's out of the way.

There are a lot of games in production that I'm lookin forward to.  The sad truth is (and I've learned this from bitter experience) that most of the games will never see the light of day!  However, one can hope!
