Does anybody know the cost of renting something large enough to fit a group in?

Nacho - if it's cheaper to take the train maybe we should just do that instead?  I have no real preference other than the fact that, in a rented car, we could stop whenever we wanted (and/or make slight detours).  But a cross-country train trip would be fun too!

I'm down for anything really ... I just really want to make sure to see the Catacombs and the Eiffel Tower in Paris while there.

Quote from: DutchMarco on Tue 20/05/2008 15:25:29I have a disappointment in stock for you: There is a very slim chance of an American one working in Europe (and vice versa)...

Well ... we shall see what comes up.  Once I meet up with Nacho I'm sure his phone works over there so it's probably not a big deal.

Quote from: Andail on Tue 20/05/2008 12:04:16Rats, I really really want to go...I need to sort this out somehow.

I really hope you can make it!!

Eric and Ivy - It would be awesome if we all hooked up for the journey!  If we need to, we can rent a larger van type vehicle!  Get a gaggle of AGSers.  But fair warning ... if we have 5 or more people I demand we sing "on the road" songs to help pass the time!!

As for cellphones ... I am planning on getting a new phone this month, so I will ensure it works over-seas!

I'm all for the shit-films Hollywood keeps on producing ... the [mostly] mindless masses eat them up anyway.  I figure the money they make off mindless garbage movies lends them the lee-way to make "riskier" movies that are, in most cases, much better.

I'll take these worthless films; Dude Where's My Car, Soul Plane, anything by Michael Bay, in trade for some of the smaller, less-known, gems that I really enjoy.

Please provide a little information on what the game is about!  It looks pretty interesting...
#2225
I am definitely interested in seeing them!  As long as there's also time to see the Eiffel Tower ... touristy I know, but I've always wanted to see it (go up it!)

What about Creed (Davy)?  Has anybody heard from him recently?

I haven't seen him on IM in a long time and he's not logged in here since 29 April!  I know he'd be interested in seeing the catacombs too!

Davy?  Are you out there?

Okay globe-trotters ...

I have purchased my tickets!

I get into London on 13 August 10:30.  I will spend that day (and night) in London being a HUGE tourist.  I have a ticket on the Eurostar the following morning  @ 9:30 (arriving in Paris at 12:47) and will spend the day (and night) being a HUGE tourist!  So ... whoever will be in Paris on the 14th we should arrange something.

Nacho and Lore are going to meet me in Paris and we're renting/hiring a car to get to Mittens.

Excited.

Okay ... we should all try and set something up!  My itinerary changed in the last day or two (flying into Spain was just too much extra money or inconvenient for the time I can get off of work)

So...

I will be flying into London on 12 August.  I was planning on wandering around there for a day (as I've never been there) and then headed to Paris (never been either) on the train!  I am planning on driving from Paris to Mittens with Nacho and Lorena (though I haven't seen him on MSN to tell him my new plans!)

Any of you Londoner's care to show this Yank around for a day?  (fair warning: I want to do the touristy crap!)

Any word on the pre-get-together in Paris?  What day/time?  I am finalizing my ticket plans and don't want to miss anything!

I once dated a good friend's younger sister ... he actually gave me his blessing to do so.  I called him and told him I was interested but that I wouldn't proceed without his consent.  He was totally cool with it and even said he couldn't think of a better guy blah blah blah ...

So it really depends.  The very best thing you can do is be up-front and honest (with your friend AND with the sister).

Don't "date" her behind his back because he WILL eventually find out and if you've been hiding it from it you've immediately lost because you're admitting you were doing something wrong (or you'd not have hidden it in the first place!).

My famous quote:
"No skirt is worth losing a friend..."

But above all ... if you think your friend would NOT be okay with it (IE might ruin the friendship) make sure that it's not just lusting over some young hottie!!  I have found, through bitter (BITTER) experience that often we lust after an object that we can't have.

Search your feelings ... this is a very touchy subject!

Best of luck!

A great trip down memory lane ...

I too remember the horrors of trying to figure out sector HH!  So much so that when you said "...was the sector that the droid ask." I mumbled, "HH of course!" Still remember it after all these years!

We actually got in BIG trouble (my brother's and I) because we'd call the Sierra hot-line to get hints (and it was a 1-900 number). They had this computer system set up where you'd call "Press 1 for King's Quest, Press 2 for Space Quest..." we called it so many times I believe it cost my parents about $50 for us to finish the game!

Thanks for the nostalgia!

First thing:
You mentioned BSG ... so is this on a "ship" of some type?  The reason I ask is the elevated threshold of the doorway.  If this isn't on a ship of some kind I'd suggest lowering that down to ground-level.

Second Thing:
On the left side (the door out) you draw nothing outside the room, on the right side (the shower entrance) you draw the exterior of the shower.  This feels clunky to me and messes with the over-all composition of the image too much.  I'd suggest either adding elements to the left side, or removing the shower's exterior from the right.

Third:
It's hard to give much more C&C because the image is mostly incomplete at this point.  As was suggested ... just go forward and try a few things, see what you come up with and post it in here.  The more effort you put in, the better the feedback you'll receive :)

I am left-handed ...

If I'm going to "paint" on the computer I use a tablet.  However most art I do on the computer is pixel-art and it's actually easier for me to do that using the mouse (right-handed).

I totally know what you mean about "drawing" with the mouse ... I tried using a left-handed mouse a long time ago and drawing wasn't any easier.  The mouse just doesn't, for me, lend itself to that.  However I have seen some pretty impressive mouse work though ... so it's one of those "to each their own" situations I think.

The second screenshot appears to be a production poster?

Is it an in-game shot?

The first definitely appears to be in-game but not the second (out of resolution, no character sprites, no GUI, etc.)  Please either verfiy that it is in fact an in-game shot, or add another.  Thanks!

Thanks for the update!  Game look interesting!

Quote from: LimpingFish on Sat 10/05/2008 02:11:45The contradiction in that statement is that person A still gets the music. The music companies get no money when nobody buys the music. The act of taking the music anyway, or having your cake and eating it too, is what undermines your argument.

There's no contradiction.  If person A just didn't buy the music, sure the record companies get no money.  BUT if they get the music for free (not paying the label), then they really stick it to the man.  Which was the entire, non-contradictory, point.

But again ... this is another example of the pointlessness of this debate.  In the end, it's all a matter of perspective.  You see it your way, I see it mine.
#2235
Quote from: LimpingFish on Fri 09/05/2008 22:23:07You steal music because, as you've said yourself, it's free and easy. You'd rather not pay for it, so you get it for free.

My reasons are far more in-depth than that over simplification.  However, as has been proven time and again in threads just like this, there's no way I can express it.  People will just say I'm wrong and that I do it for the reasons they think.  Because, clearly, people I've never met would know my own feelings and beliefs better than I.

Quote from: LimpingFish on Fri 09/05/2008 22:23:07The really is no discussion beyond that. No fight against DRM, no sticking it to the Man, etc. Nothing.

Let's just say, for argument's sake, that person A has a problem with the greedy record companies.  What better way could they "stick it to the man" than by downloading the music without financial compensation to them?  Sure you could boycott, protest, create petitions, etc.  But all of that isn't going to accomplish anything really.  The greedy people will sit on high in their castles promptly ignoring it.  But you perform an action that makes them less money ... well ... they suddenly start noticing.

Just a thought.

I'm going to leave out my personal feelings on the legality/theft issue of this subject.  Been there, done that 'round these parts and don't care to debate or rehash the same old subject.

I just want to reiterate what I've said countless times before in this debate:

I can appreciate that there are those that think it's a terrible sin and don't approve.  However ... you're outnumbered by about 1,000,000 to 1 in this matter.  It's a battle that, no matter how justified you feel and/or how clearly you see the right/wrong, you will never win.  It's easy, it's safe, and it's FREE to download music.  Legality aside, people are going to do it.  It really is just that simple.

Now maybe it's just me but, were on your side of the fence ... I don't know ... it's just not a battle/crusade I'd choose to take part in and/or lose sleep over.  I will, however, grant that I'm not a musician and so I have an "outsider's" perspective on the matter.  So I can only speculate based on how I feel on the subject.

Don't get me wrong; I'm an advocate of "fighting the good fight" ... this just doesn't seem like a "good fight" to me.

General Discussion / Re: UFO Experiences
Thu 08/05/2008 18:17:06
First off ... are those UFOs?

Yes, they absolutely are UFOs.

Why?  Because they are objects that are flying which we can't positively identify.

Now... are they aliens.

No.  I am 99.99999999% positive they are not.  I leave that 0.0000000001% of chance in there just 'cause only a Sith deals in absolutions.  Also because I'd love to meet E.T.

But the video quality of all these "sightings" is such crap that it's clear to me it's just normal anomalies being caught out of focus and all "shaky-cam" like.  When somebody can bring me something like this: UFO over Haiti I will maybe start paying more attention.  Don't get me wrong ... I find it intriguing (all the UFO hype) but I'm not a believer.

I look on the odds of encountering an alien race like this:

If there were only 2 people on the entire Earth and both of them "knew" the other existed and the only thing they did was search for the other person ... if they lived to be 1,000 years old and spent their entire lives searching the odds of them actually finding one another is so remote I can't put a number to it.

Now ... multiply those already astronomical odds by the sheer infinite vastness of space and time.  Sorry ... to my way of thinking we'll never find another form of life we can communicate with (or that might be looking for us).  I do believe they are out there, I just don't think we'll ever find one another.

DISCLAIMER - this statement is being made in the year 2008.  I reserve the right to, at any time, change my opinion given the advances in technology sure to arise in years to come.  Given that, 100 years ago, flying aircraft were 'impossible', who knows what tomorrow brings?

Good to see something else from you!

However ... one more screenshot is required (the first is a menu and not "in game")!
Please update!!

Edit - The menu screenshot has been approved!

This goes back to what I [sadly] keep having to say with situations like this.

This topic is now "internet famous".

All she/they have accomplished by attacking this guy is giving it more publicity and attention.  This book will now be made into an eBook and downloaded around the internet for free to anybody that wants it and there's absolutely nothing she/they can do to stop it.  In worrying that it would compete with their profits they've essentially guaranteed it's success.  The only truly tragic thing here is that the guy that made the eBook won't get a dime for his hard work.  I hope he keeps his website up with the google ads and makes some coin that way.  In fact ... I'm going to go visit his site and click a few google ads for him.

Time and again these dumb-ass back-wards thinking corporations just never learn.

Personally I hope they release her "encyclodpedia" and it flops 'cause everybody downloads this guy's eBook for free.

I'm flying into Barcelona and meeting up with Nacho and Lore and we're driving to Paris ... if we time it right we could have a pre-Mittens meeting in Paris!  Then head out to Mittens.

I'm super excited to FINALLY learn what Mittens actually means!  Oh ... and to meet the rest of you too of course ;)
