FULL BRIGHT COLORS!!!!  ARGH ME EYES!!!

I would definitely recommend toning down the magentas and the reds!

I like the overall "shape" of this room and it would function well as a game background.  However I have a few issues:

1) some objects use very straight lines and others use the curvey style of lines.  The two don't mix well in my opinion.

2) the doorway "Depth" is too deep.  Or maybe it's just that you can't see the same depth on the top of the door way (which you should be able to from the angle it's at)

3) as I already said, the full-bright colors got to go!

I think it's off to a good start (or I'd not have bothered commenting!) ...

Also ... I recognize that character from somewhere.

Every year I get my friend Tony .... and every year the dumb son-of-a-bitch falls for it!  I've been burning him every year for over a decade, you'd think by now he'd clue in but no, he doesn't.

This year was my best yet.

We used to know this guy a few years ago named Dave Raymond.  So I signed up for a fake hotmail account under his name.  Then last night I sent Tony a txt message telling him that Dave had sent me an email asking for his (Tony's) email address.  Tony called me and said it was cool that I gave Dave his email.  Next I went and sent Tony an email from "Dave";

QuoteHey man, long time no talk!  I emailed Matt asking him about this too, but I haven't heard back from him.  Didn't I hear that Jeremy Page had moved to Florida a few years ago?  I haven't talked to him since Matt's wedding but I think I remember him saying something about having moved to Florida right?

See here's the thing; I have this young woman that works here.  She used to live in Ft. Lauderdale and she moved out here for the job.  She's not hot or anything, but she's into some freaky stuff and she was telling me about some of it the other day and linked me to this website she was a member of when she was in Florida.  So I was checking it out with her and she pointed out this profile:

www.furry-love.com/featured/march2008

Dude ... tell me that isn't him and if so what the hell?  I always thought he was a little ...... weird maybe, but good lord that's just insane!  Seems too much coincidence if it's not him (talks about moving from Michigan and his initials are JP)

Do you still talk to him?  Did you know about this?  I didn't mean to be a gossip guy or anything but I just had to know.

Let me know man and I hope you're doing good.  I heard you're getting married?  That's great and congratulations!

Dave

note: before reading further make sure you've clicked the link above (in the quote)

So Tony calls me today and I proceeded to have the single most hilarious phone conversation I've ever had.

"uhhh dude? ... do you have a second?" says Tony.
"Sure, what's up?" I replied.
"So I know what Dave wanted my email for ... and it kind of has something to do with you."
"What do you mean?"

He then reads through the email, but cleverly skips over the link part ... then he says, "does that sound familiar?"

"No... not reallly" I said ... but I stumbled and stammered a bit (making it sound like I was hiding something)

I could tell he was hesitating, and I was struggling so hard not to break out laughing that my head was starting to hurt.

He then says, "but here's the thing ... she showed him a website and he linked me to it ... are you into some freaky shit down there?"

So I nervously giggled and said, "ummm ... what website?" (my head was about to explode from holding it in)

He says, "JP Penguin?  There's a picture of you in a penguin suit ... what's going on here?"

"Oh man ... no that's not me, I'm not sure what you're talking about."

He replies, "JP Penguin ... that's clearly you in the pictures, same initials, same age and birthday, moved from Michigan ... dude?  That's you ... talk about all-time closeted secrets how did I not know about this??"

I played defeated, "oh man ... did you click that link at the bottom?" (all nervous in my tone)

He says "No ... I wasn't sure I should I was scared to"

"Just click it man ... what does it matter now ... you know."

So he clicks it.  A moment of silence follows.

"Ass" click.

SOOOOOOOOOOOOOO PRICELESS.  I'm still crackin' up and it was over 6 hours ago.

Quote from: Gilbot V7000a on Mon 31/03/2008 03:08:24Funny that this thread has been transformed into something else. ;)

I was going to say annoying.

It's annoying to have to sift through countless off-topic and meaningless posts to find actual entries in a competition thread ... it's the reason I don't enter the competitions anymore.

I was wondering where you'd been!  Congratulations, welcome back, and hope to see you at Mittens!

Duh stupid me I forgot to give you all the link to download my game

Nope, what you forgot to do was read the forum rules!

If you want help with your game post in the sticky thread in the Adventure Related Talk & Chat board (don't make a post in there for this, read those rules too!)

I have been working, professionally, as a web-developer for well over a decade now.  The one conclusion that I've come to is that it's just a matter of preference.

Me personally, I use (and love) Firefox.  It's standards compliant, fast, and efficient.

I have IE, Safari, Opera and Firefox installed so I can test everything I develop cross-browser/platform of course.

The problem is that the vast majority of computer users are windows users.  Windows comes with IE and most of these people never think to use anything else.  Thus, as a developer, everything MUST work in IE.

Having said that ... IE blows.  I cannot grasp why, after years and years of people/developer's constant complaints about IE not doing this, or not doing that, that Microsoft has released version after version of IE without fixing these issues.  It's ridiculous.

I cannot tell you how many times I have put something together that looks fantastic in every browser... then I load it in IE and it's a jumbled mess.

I could go on and on about it's short-comings, but I'd just get agitated and I don't want to.

I am the same way ... I don't abandon, I just put them on hold!

I have 3 or 4 game ideas (really good ones) that I would love to work on someday.  Just gotta finish the one I am working on!

I wish i could rant about how bad G4 is now after taking over TechTV, but I won't because it would take all day.

But....

Bring back Leo Laporte, and please go back to gaming shows and not just Ninja Warrior, Cheaters and Cops.......and....other non gaming related bull crap.

I could not agree with you more.  G4 is pathetic.

Interesting to see what Yahtzee looks like!  As Andail said, that was not at ALL how I pictured him!  Sessler is such a goofy-ass (yet oddly likeable) guy it wasn't as painful to watch as I feared it might be.

The only problem I really have with Macs (aside from Mac Snobs - which Stupot nailed on the head! Very funny BTW!) is the over-all attitude mac users have that Macs are "better" than PCs.

Macs are not better, they are just different (and vice-versa).

This is a distinction that both sides seem to lose I think ...

I just like to tease mac users when their "everything just runs on a mac" statement doesn't hold true.

Just my opinion.

General Discussion / Re: Is AGS right for me?
Fri 29/02/2008 03:11:34
Hello and Welcome.

Yes, AGS is for you.

As for programs to use, check the sticky threads in all the boards as they have LOADS of advice on the what/where/how etc for game creation!

Happy game making!!

You might want to try it again man ...  Because everything just works on Macs.

Though I don't know how you managed to mess it up because Macs work like you do, just intuitively, so there's no way you should have been able to mess it up.

This is quite a mystery indeed.

the factory/buildings in the background just muddle this up ... even with the depth.  I think the problem is because they are far away and yet have a lot of details on them.  Adding the depth was a good idea, but they look like a cardboard stand on the top of the hill.  That or those trees are HUGE!!  The level of details for something that's supposed to be far away is a problem because the rest of the image (forground) isn't full of details so it clashes (at least to me).  I would try to make the buildings seem more distant and obscure.

I did a quick paint over to show an idea:

- upped the contrast a bit to separate things a little more
- added a second hill in there to separate the tree's hill, with the factory in the distance
- simplified the buildings in the distance

Just a thought.

Hope you find it helpful!

If a man could marry a game (even before it's come out!) I would marry this.

Now I'm done praising :)

I love the animation you did (without the background) but you're right ... when added into the background and put in motion it gets lost a bit.

I thought of trying something so I did ... it was whipped up and not shaded and/or tweaked so forgive the sloppiness, I just wanted to show the idea:

thought maybe if the perspective shift was horizontal instead of vertical it might show a bit better in the full animation.  Don't know ... I think if you did something like this, spending a bit more time on the little details, this could really look good! (note: after I finished I realized a bit of motion to the engines would probably be needed to really sell the movement!)

Hope it helps!
