Quote from: largopredator on Thu 14/02/2008 21:53:27The moment that theme music started playing, and I saw Indy's silhouette, I was sold.

That's all it took for me too... gave me chills seeing something new Indy like that!

George Lucas writes the story and Steven Spielberg directs ... I'm WAY too much of a fan-boy of both not to be predisposed to adoration to really give a subject comment.

Nikolas, I think it's more that Harrison Ford has simply gotten too old ;|.  It's painful watching him meander around with gray hair and pretend he still has action star potential.
I miss the good 'ol Han Solo Harrison Ford days to these Grey Haired old man Harrison Ford days.

I'm probably the only one to feel this way ... but one of my favorite aspects of story telling is progressing the time line and aging the characters.  So if they do it right ... I think it could be awesome (at least for me)

General Discussion / Re: Anonymous?
Thu 14/02/2008 16:21:28
While I agree that Scientology (and ists) are a bit ... weird ... to my way of thinking.  They've never done anything that affected me (other than creepin' me out a bit).  I don't see anything [more] wrong with their "religion" than any other organized religion.

This Legion/Anonymous just seems like a publicity stunt ... and who wants to bet me that if they're successful or not they're somehow parlaying all this publicity into a way for them to make money.  Which is why, if I understand it correctly, they are against Scientology (because of the money) in the first place.

I don't know ... it all seems a tad hypocritical and selfish to me.

General Discussion / Re: Happy Valentines Day!
Thu 14/02/2008 02:23:57
I don't think it's a farce because of Hallmark (any more than any other holiday).  I hate valentines day because if a man needs a holiday as an excuse to be romantic to a woman and show his love to her ... he's already lost and might as well not even bother.

Sometimes I think romance has died because of valentines day.  People assume that cramming all their romance into that one day is enough for the year.  And then even sadder, a lot of women I've talked to soooo eagerly look forward to that one day 'cause they know it's the only time of year romance is lumped on them.  And what's worse is they accept this.  I find that sad.

But hey ... to each their own.

No need to apologize ... just please update the first post with two "in-game" screenshots (like the one above).  Thanks and good luck with the game!

Quote from: Oliwerko on Mon 11/02/2008 16:49:37Wow, that's good one. How many of 10 girls do catch?

I have tried that probably 10 or 15 times ... only 3 made it to the "dinner?" question because they answered yes to one of the first two (usually to "boyfriend?" cause I always scan the finger for a ring first).  Of the three that made it to "dinner?" I went out with all three of them.  So I guess that's 100% :)

Quote from: Nikolas on Mon 11/02/2008 19:55:56"You know... beauty is only a lightswitch away" ;)

I've used a variation of that one; "Hey ... don't worry, I look great in the dark!"  But I've found that women don't like self deprecation, so I go with confident (but not cocky).

One I've used with great success:

I approach and make eye contact, but say nothing.

Then after just the right amount of saying nothing I say, "Married?"

If she says no, "Boyfriend?"

If she says no, "Dinner?"

Works like a charm.

Are these actual "in game" shots?  I don't see a gui, status bar, player character, cursor ...

Since nobody requested an extension...

I really loved ProgZ's visually.  While Mouth's wasn't as visually appealing, it did get the essence of what I was envisioning a bit more ... so this time around the winner is:

mouthuvmine

Congrats all ... mouthuvmine you may commence the next jam!

Would anybody be interested in an extension of the dead-line?

If not ... I'm voting tonight!

As much as I hate to say this ...

The only chance you have of not paying the ticket (or not getting the points on your license) if you go to court is if the cop doesn't show up.  It's a crap shoot really.

No matter your excuse, no matter your "evidence", no matter your opinion on the matter and how unjustified the ticket might have been ... if the cop shows up, you lose.

I almost got arrested one time because I went to court with my friend (I was in the car with her) and the cop gave her a ticket for running a red light which she ABSOLUTELY did not.  I explained to the judge and he couldn't grasp the concept of seeing the light change so I asked him if he understood the principle of light "glowing".  He didn't like that.

She ended up getting the points and having to pay the ticket.  If the cop shows up, it doesn't matter.

Quote from: Pumaman on Tue 29/01/2008 18:38:32...which leads on to the question, is the real reason that any of us do a good deed because we expect to be thanked for it, and being thanked makes us feel good -- thus the motivation for doing the deed in the first place?

Quote from: ProgZmax on Tue 29/01/2008 19:02:17Yeah, I think that bringing up things you've done to help other people rather nullifies the altruism in it.  I'm sure all of us at one time or another have done something helpful for someone else without expecting massive returns, and if you haven't, well that's your choice really!

This is what I meant by it being "selfish" for me... I could really care less if I get thanked for it, or if it's even acknowledged.  I'm doing it for myself.  Just doing it makes me feel good.  So I do it.  In fact ... some of the best feelings come from when the person isn't even aware you helped them.

It sounds so hokey [of course] but I really believe if more people shared this desire to help others (rather than being the selfish, only caring about themselves, snobs that they are) the world would be a truly happier place.

Well if the continuing line of movies and TV shows proves one thing ... no matter how many times you stop Skynet the franchise future will still happen!

General Discussion / Re: PS CS3 crash
Tue 29/01/2008 03:28:14
I have been experiencing something similar with CS3 ... though I'm on Vista Pro.  It just locks up periodically.  Usually lasts about 45 seconds to 2 minutes (longest was 2 minutes).  It's extremely annoying.  I spent a long time on different forums trying to figure out why it happens and the best I could find was that pirated copies of CS3 do this.

Now I'm not saying my copy is pirated ... but that's the only excuse I could find for the weird behavior.  It's never frozen permanently or crashed for me.  It always comes back ... I just have to wait a bit.  No less annoying though.

I found hotel dusk VERY boring ... but I really dug it's intent!  It just didn't deliver for me.

But yeah, that's what I was getting at!  There's so many "things" that you can do with the DS that it would really push the adventure game to a new level.
#2335
You could "tweak" the way you create your game inside AGS easy enough.  However, this wouldn't take advantage of the DS part of the DS!  I'd want to use both screens.  There's so much opportunity of cool things to do with that.
#2336
I do a lot of "good" deeds ... sadly my reason for doing them is rather selfish.  I do them 'cause it makes me feel good.  Not out of any karmic reasons.  Though I suppose it's all related.

Just yesterday, at the market, this old lady knocked a box from the shelf with her cane.  She was struggling to bend down to pick the thing up but just couldn't get to it.  So I walked back (I was past her by the time) and got it for her.

That was the most recent.

Some others (recently)
- helped a guy in a wheel chair get in the market 'cause it was raining
- gave a few bux to the lady in front of me who was a little short for the total
- put my neighbor's trash out to the curb so they didn't miss the pickup

I don't know ... I suppose these could be considered "good deeds"?

As a I said above it makes me feel good to do these things.  Well ... that and I have to do them to help balance out all the drugs and hookers.

YES!!!

You both captured exactly what I wanted to see!  Excellent!

Keep 'em coming!!

Okay ladies and germs!

This time around we're going to Sprite the ...

That's right!  Sprite up your interpretation of the employee of the month.  We've all had that job where there was that one guy/gal that was a total kiss-up and was always getting the employee of the month.  Or the totally dedicated quiet guy that hardly spoke but always got so much done he would get employee of the month.  Or the geeky person that was fanatically devoted to doing their job to the best of their ability!

Whatever your interpretation is, sprite it up!

Restrictions:
Colors: no limit
Size: no limit (but should be something usuable in an AGS game)
Animation: not required, but will score extra points

Have at thee and happy spriting!

Quote from: LimpingFish on Sun 27/01/2008 21:59:52AGS on a portable is a different kettle of fish, though, as past threads have shown us.

I would have no desire to use AGS on my DS ... I'd just like it if we could use AGS (or something like it) to make games in the resolutions needed for the DS.  That's all.  Then there'd be no need for resizing, etc.

I've been looking into the "homebrewing" aspect of my DS for a few weeks now.

I would love to be able to make adventure games on the DS.

I don't know if any of you have played the Zelda game on the DS but it has some really cool shit in it.  Like you need to transfer a seal from the top screen to the bottom and you accomplish this by closing the ds (thus pushing the two screens together).  Or you have to blow out candles by actually blowing on to the DS's microphone.  Or the enemy that hates loud noises so if you talk loudly into the microphone he runs away.

Some REALLY cool stuff that could take adventure games to the next level.
