This is something I worked on some time ago ... but I'll post it just so loom isn't the only one in here ('cause I really liked the topic).  Oddly fitting since he taught me the technique I used for the lighting in this image

If it doesn't count, that's cool  I don't mind!  Just wanted to make this topic worth-while!!

The DOTT style "crooked" architecture is actually more difficult to accomplish than correct perspective.  It doesn't seem like it would be, but it is.  The problem that I, personally, have with your background is that it appears that you just threw some lines up there in 5 minutes and then rushed to post.

I'll offer the advice I've given before.  TAKE YOUR TIME!! 

Here is something I threw together in ten minutes:



Followed a simple perspective.  Easy.  A lot of the artists in here (myself included) spend hours upon hours crafting our backgrounds.  We devote time and energy to them.  Take your time.  Check all lines, double pixels, follow perspective, etc.  Think of the details; furniture, trim, doorknobs, etc.  Don't be so eager to post and get people's opinions.  We don't know when you're working on something and we aren't waiting for it ... so if you wait a bit longer and spend some more time on it we'll never know the difference.

Seriously ... just take your time.

There's a big difference between violent video games and child pornography.

However I don't disagree with "drawing a line" necessarily ... it's just a pointless battle to fight.  As long as there is a demand for something, somebody somewhere will supply it.  40 years ago bathrooms on television shows had no toilets, now-a-days Jack Bauer is cuttin' people's heads off in prime-time.  I'm not saying it's progress, or even that I agree with it, but it is what it is.

Make violent video games illegal?  Does anybody REALLY believe making it illegal will stop it?

Banning games is utterly (and totally) pointless.

I'd wager that the makers of the game are lovin' the fact that it's being banned.  You can't buy that kind of publicity.  In this day and age the only thing that banning the game is going to do is make people want it more.

Don't get me wrong ... I understand the sentiment behind the move, but banning a violent video game is like telling teenagers they can't have alcohol until they're 21.  We see how well that works.

And what on earth are Smart Playlists? It sounds like those word-lists on cell-phones. I don't understand how I managed without them.

Smart Playlists were added in the newest version of iTunes.  It's a way to take normal playlists and make them "smart".

For example:

I have a smart playlist called "Forgotten Favorites of Yore ..." which are all the songs I've given a 5 star rating to, but haven't listened to in over 6 months.  Once a song is played, it's removed from the list.  If a song has a 5 star rating and hasn't been listened to in 5 months and 3 weeks, then 1 week later it's added to the list.

I have another called "When Love & Hate Collide" which are all songs with either the word "love" and/or "hate" in the title

The potential just goes on and on for the creative stuff you can do with Smart Playlists.

I have over 8,000 songs (almost all totally illegally downloaded!) and I'm running out of shit to download ... how can you have 51,000 songs?  Sheesh.

As was suggested ... music is too subjective to ask what we think you should put on the iPod.  When I read the "What are you listening to" thread (which maybe you should check out?) I find 99% of what is being recommended is shit to me.  Which is fine ... they aren't listening to it for me.

I too have the 80GB iPod ... I have it attached to the AVIC D3 in my car (coolest thing ever!).  I have all my music on it.  I use the "shuffle all" option the most, but I have recently discovered the wonderful power of the Smart Playlists.  

If you don't know them.  Learn them.  Seriously.

I think it's poor taste to post a topic title like that ... however, this is the internet and that's the kind of shit that happens.  People don't realize that just because something isn't important to them it might be important to others.  Or they do realize and just don't give a shit and/or think it's funny.  There's really nothing to be done about it.  It goes back to Andail's recent thread about this very topic.

I've reached a point where, when I read an upsetting title like that, I wait to read the content before accepting it to be true (and even after reading the content, I still try to find evidence that it's true elsewhere just in case ... again, this IS the interwebs after all).

Meh ... such is life in this increasingly digital world we inhabbit.  At least the title is now a bit more descriptive about what the topic is actually about.

Just a bit of advice ... telling somebody to "bugger off" on an internet forum is about the same thing as saying "please pick on me, I enjoy it."  The best thing you can do is simply ignore negative comments.

I have been using Hostfolio for a few years now.  They have several packages available and are about $5/month.  And they have, hands down without a doubt, the best technical support I've ever had the pleasure to deal with.

The font on the left has a greater impact ... but the greater impact is acheived by being slightly less readable.

Here is a simpler font (like on the right) with a little impact thrown in:


(I also removed the blackline cut-off at the top ... but that's just personal preference)

Easier to read ... but it's more visually eye-catching.

I love the saying by the way ... very intriguing!
