Those screenshots are practically identical ... Please get another screenshot posted (from a different room/location and NOT a menu/options screen).

The idea of the game (while not really clever/original) sounds alright.  Who doesn't love a good detective game?  Although, I think you may have 'jumped the gun' as the saying goes.  If you're only a week into development it's FAR too early for a GiP thread.

Good luck with the game, and get that other screenshot posted soon!!

I'm working on one ... will be finished tonight!!

And here it is!!

Didn't turn out as good as I was envisioning ... but better than I thought it would.

Okay, it isn't the greatest. But that's what practice is for. In case you couldn't tell, it's a girl and the weather whoosh! She's just goin' so fast.....!
EDIT: Gotta fix that. It'll be done.

Might want to fix the size too ...

Parameters:
Colors: 25 MAX
Size: 100x100 MAX
Style: must be top down perspective (animated is a HUGE plus!!)

This is becoming a mess ...

When you have the screenshots ready, notify me via PM (include the screenies IN the PM - and make sure they are 'in-game' shots) and I'll unlock this.

Please find alternate hosting for the images so they don't disappear ocassionally!

Also ... please update the post so it tells what the game is about (as your hosting has exceeded it's bandwidth and we can't get more info from the site either!)

Thanks!

If this will be animated I would suggest in some way make the crowd ... broiling ... some kind of movement to show it's not 100,000 people sitting still!

Also (if animated) I would suggest camera flashes.

On a perspective note ... the colored boards that go around (through the crowd) ... on the left side of the image they appear to go off perspective.  Seems like (just looking) they would curve down a bit more?

All-in-all I'd say it's a good image!

(I'm at work, so can't do a paint-over!)

Quote from: ProgZmax on Sat 23/09/2006 17:50:07I size up Jack Thompson in one word:  muckraker.  I don't think he personally believes as strongly in videogame violence as he claims, but it's a hell of a way to get him tons of publicity.  It made him a celebrity almost overnight.
Totally agree.

Quote from: jet on Sat 23/09/2006 20:17:10I disagree. Most people who go postal are adults, not teenagers. Is a parent of a 45 year old daughter really responsible for her actions?
I reckon you're right, but I was only referring to the kids shooting kids at schools.  Everytime some kind of shit goes down with a youngster the parents inevitably say the same thing, "we didn't even know there was a problem".  I wasn't making a comment on the adults that go postal.

But even if it I were talking about adults ... I'd still put my money on the fact that there were far more influential elements that contribute to their actions OTHER than video games.

24 SEPTEMBER - O1 OCTOBER

This week's topic is ...
Bird's Eye Retro Racers

That's right!  Create a sprite in the style of your favorite classic racing game.  Doesn't have to be a car/truck.  Think space ships, motorcycles, horses ... you name it!  If it races, sprite it!!

Parameters:
Colors: 25 MAX
Size: 100x100 MAX
Style: must be top down perspective (animated is a HUGE plus!!)

Example

ImageReady acting up again, hence the funky background

Now ... go forth and be Spriteful!!

I don't have this substantiated ... but I have heard strong rumors that the Japanese pilots that bombed Pearl Harbor trained on an early version of Microsoft's Flight Simulator.

Also ... Brutus learned how to stab Ceasar by playing Metal Gear Snake Eater.

I love the part where he says, "the shooter trained by playing Doom".  If the event he was referring to wasn't so sickening, I'd actually find that REALLY funny.

By my way of thinking ... violent video games are an 'outlet' for violent tendencies.  Not the cause.  I can't count the number of times I'd get pissed at something in the real world and take it out in a video game.  I used to play (religiously) Golden Eye on the N64.  If I were in a bad mood (real world) I'd go in there and shoot some civilians.  Would I ever do this in real life?  Of course not, but the game gave me an outlet for anger.

I don't know ... I think some whack job little kid that goes on a shooting spree in his school was caused more by the heartlessness of his peers, social anxiety, and bad/absent parents than any video game.

How many times do you hear the parents of these kids say something like this, "We didn't even realize ..." well duh!!!!  THERE'S the frickin' problem.

DG ... I could TOTALLY see Dr. Cox when I was reading your last post!  Well done ;)

Quote from: ProgZmax on Fri 22/09/2006 00:41:12Does the fact that it's a job make them any less heroes?  I mean, they still make the conscious choice to work a job they know could end in their death at any time in order to fight fires and save lives.  If anything, that makes them even more worthy of being called heroes, just like the men and women who died at the WTC trying to get people out.

I can totally see your point.

Don't get me wrong ... it's not that I don't TOTALLY admire and respect the men and woman of the police forces and fire departments for what they do.  I consider their actions to be incredible (and more than I think I could do maybe??)  It's just that ... I don't know ... when I hear that a fireman ran into a burning buidling I think, concious choice or not, I still expect to them to perform those actions.  If they can't/won't ... they shouldn't have chosen that profession.

I think, by my way of defining the word, a hero is somebody that does something extraordinary and totally unexpectedly at the risk of their own life (or by giving their life).  This is my definition of a hero.

Please understand I am not taking any of the "heroical" nature away from fire and police personel.  I just think, as I mentioned in my other post, that a true "hero" is a matter of perspective.  If you think somebody is a hero, then they are, regardless of what I, or others, might think on the matter.

Hence, Bindy calling her father "her" or "a" hero is totally acceptable in my opinion.

I mean ... Hitler was a "hero" to a millions of people back in the 30's/40's (and still has some today that idolize him).  It's just a matter of perspective :)

From my point of view ... the lable of "hero" is a matter of perspective.

I mean ... to the animal/wildlife conservationists of the world, maybe Steve Irwin was a hero to them?

I don't know.

I think a firefighter who runs into a burning building is doing something heroic ... but does that automatically make him a hero? I mean ... isn't that what firefighters are supposed to do?  Now John Q Public who is a tax accountant walking down the street and sees a burning building and runs in and saves somebody's life ... now (to me) THAT is a hero.

Perhaps this is just my opinion.

This is H3rM13 (Hermie) and he has a heart of gold ...

106 x 106 17 colors

And what, you may ask, does Hermie do to show his heart of gold?

He wanders the world in search of little duckies in need of a crossing guard!

Let me know when you have the screenshots back up and I'll unlock this...

I have unlocked this, please update the screenies ASAP!  And please, nobody comment on them missing if you reply before he updates!

Is this game "in production" or is it complete?  I can't tell.
#2937
Okay, small-ish update time ...

The game is still in progress!  We hit a small snag for the last few months (due to my own personal issues) but fear not, it's still going strong!

Changes:

The story is now about 90% polished (some changes were made, differences in the time-lines, locations, etc)

The characters are being totally over-hauled into a new style (done by the fantastic Mr. Farlander!!)

As soon as we have something we WANT to show, I will update this thread.

Coming [relatively] soon ...

Quote from: Zooty on Sat 09/09/2006 18:05:31I am on the perfect team. Just click the link in my signature. GO.

So true!

I was, when first joining AGS, only interested in solo work.  Doing EVERY aspect (except music) on my own.  However, since the founding of the AoK team, I don't know that I'll go back to solo work.  Working with a team is awesome.

There is enough talent floating around here that there are un-ending combinations of members that would make incredible games together.  I think it's unfair to single out a few individuals as it makes those not selected feel bad.

I am, of course, not making that statement due to the fact that none of you put me on your dream teams ;)

Quote from: MashPotato on Sun 10/09/2006 01:18:32One thing that looks a wee bit off to me is that the circles behind the thrusters don't look exactly perpendicular to the rods that attach them to the rest of the ship (assuming that you want them to be perpendicular).
Yeah ... I really struggled with that rounded parts.  ISO doesn't lend itself (easily) to rounded lines.  I played with that over and over and over, believe me.

Quote from: Ben304 on Sun 10/09/2006 05:47:52These are some freakin sexy pixels. Truly a masterpiece. I think the colour scheme is just so Star Wars.
Thanks!

Quote from: Coolio on Sun 10/09/2006 06:40:09but shouldn't the detailing on the top of one of the 'thrusters' be flipped left to right (viewed end on) rather than facing the same direction on both?
Yes it should :)  I will admit that I copied the "shell" of the nacelle rather than trying to recreate it.  As a result, some of the details were transferred too.

Quote from: dkh on Sun 10/09/2006 11:57:15I hope you still make a Star Wars AGS game with those graphics!
It's in my line of "games I want to make".  Though it won't be anytime too soon sad to say!

Quote from: Sinsin on Sun 10/09/2006 12:04:33could this be a friend indeed 2 darth  ;D :o  ive been waiting a looooooooooooooooonnnnnnnnnnnnggggggggggg time
I hope so
Actually ... this has nothing to do with JP & Cosmo II.  However, that game WAS in production until Amulet of Kings came along.  Once that's finalized I'm going back to JP2, don't worry!

Thanks for all the kind words!  I'm not sure how much more time I'm going to spend on this, as it was basically just for practice and no real application.

Juncmodule and I were working on an unrealized project last year and he created this very effect.  We didn't get very far with it, but it was pretty damn slick.  It worked, if I remember correctly, but the setViewPort commands.

I'll see if I can dig it up ...
