After a severe bout w/ a creative block ... I've started pixelling again (thank god!).

I sat down this morning and decided to put a Y-wing in ISO and this was the result:

I feel a bit rusty, and want to throw some pixels around before creating more backgrounds for Amulet of Kings.

I feel pretty happy with the over-all shape and colors.  Some areas of concern for me are the ends of the nacelles (both ends).  They were the hardest part to accomplish (due to the 'rounded' nature). And the front part of the fuselage (cockpit area) breaks the ISO lines too.

Opinions?  Comments?  Suggestions?

- changed the over-all shading (gradiated the walls)
- added some noise to the floor/carpet
- added shadows to the table
- added trim around the doors
- added floorboards

I think it's a good start you had.  I just threw some of my own touches in there!  Keep up the good work and I hope this helps at least a little!

I actually have a recording of a history channel documentary on this ...

It's a supremely fascinating glimpse into the "ancient" technologies that we thought we modern folk had created.

The program goes over the "helenistic" era talking about Archimedies and other inventors/thinkers of antiquity.  If you have the means, pick it up (I think you can NetFlix it if you're in America ... don't know about other countries).  It's well worth the watch if you're interested in this.

At least he died doing what he loved ...

I always knew this was coming.  I remember, years ago, saying this was going to happen but it's still shocking that it actually did happen.

I always admired the guy.

Quote from: lipaoklipa on Sun 03/09/2006 11:29:16Now,i want someone to explain to me,how did his half brother become so big, with beard and a girlfriend in lets say.....8 years?Bigger than him actually.

Firstly, it wasn't Anakin's "half" brother, it was his "step" brother.  Owen Lars is Cliegg Lars' child from a previous union. (second paragraphs on both links)

While I must admit that the prequels didn't quite live up the image of perfection I have from growing up with the original trilogy, however I still found them enjoyable.

I still maintain that a LOT of people just found it quick and easy to jump on the "prequels suck" bandwagon rather than actually giving them an honest chance.  Sure, some people have legitimate problems with them.  However, I would remind everybody reading this that Star Wars, Empire, and Jedi were 20 years established when he took on the prequels.  How could he possibly re-create that?  It was something I think he knew from the get-go that he couldn't do.  So he said, "screw it ... I'm making them MY way" and even though the results weren't what I would have wanted, I respect that decision.

I also maintain that telling a story chronologically (eps 1 - 3) when the true "end" (4 - 6) is already known is very awkward and I think a lot of people (after episode I) just couldn't connect the dots and found it so dis-jointed that they said, "it sucks" rather than realizing there was a LOT more to come.

Personally ... I think the over-all story was okay.  However, I would have liked to see Kevin Smith write the dialogue and Carrie Fisher (yes, Princess Leia) do the script-doctoring.  Could have been much better.  I have my own interpretation of how I would have liked to see the prequels play out ... but it's pages and pages which I'm not going to type :)

Wow ... thanks for the error report.  I'm sure they didn't find this 7 months ago when the last person posted in here ...

It's been my experience that it's not just "america" but the entire world that is capable of such stupidity.  America just has a laughable justice system which then allows these stupid people to find greedy capitilist pig lawyers who can exploit said laughable justice system to make money.

I am sometimes just floored by the stupidity ...

After hurrican Wilma last year we borrowed a neighbor's chainsaw to cut apart some trees that had been felled by the storm.  There is actually a warning label ON THE CHAINSAW that says, "do not grab chain while in motion".

That means that at some point ... some dip-shit actually did, and then sued the chainsaw company because there was no warning about it.

Were I the judge in that case I would have said to the guy, "Are you a fuckin' moron?  You should pay THEM for YOUR stupidity you dumb shit!  Get out of my courtroom!!" and laughed as I slammed the gavel down.

AGS Games in Production / Re: Nobody's hero

Firstly ... welcome to the AGS boards!

Second ... your n00b stock went WAY up for actually reading and following the rules!

Third ... I updated your post just a bit to include 2 of the images rather than just links

Fourth ... game looks interesting.  Not an overly original concept, but it works.  I like the watercolor backgrounds.  If you're able I might suggest saving the images as PNG (or even GIF is the color loss isn't too bad) because the jpgs appear to be a bit on the lossy side.

Fifth ... no more numbers!  Good luck with the project!

Disclaimer - I've not read the entire thread so I don't know if any of this was previously mentioned (I'm at work and can't take too much time to read it all right now but I wanted to weigh in the movie)

I really enjoyed the movie.  The sword fight scene w/ Norrington and Jack and Will on the wheel was WAY cool.

Having said that I have some complaints:

1) too long.  I'm all about lengthy movies when they need to be long, but this movie didn't need to be near 3 hours long.

2) too many re-characters.  I don't mind (and it's logical in sequels) that there are some of the same characters but it was like they were just throwing in the popular ones (the two goofy guys from the first one) for no reason.

3) Elizabeth.  Now don't get me wrong ... I could stare at Keira Knightly all freakin' day ... but in the first movie she was a resourceful, if somewhat naive, young woman who, suddenly in the sequel, is a swash-buckling sword master?  It was too over the top and I think they were just trying to capitalize on her "bad girl" persona she developed between black pearl and Dead man's chest (w/ films like Arthur and Domino).

4) my biggest gripe (which I'm sure most won't agree with) is the "urkle" syndrome.  They took 10% of Jack Sparrow from the first film (the quirky silliness) and made it 90% of his character in the sequel.  I felt like he was a bumbling idiot in this movie.  Think of the scene in the first when they are stealing the ship and Wil says, "here they come" and jack turns toward the camera and gives that little smile ... THAT was jack sparrow.  Not some dainty feminine ninny like he seemed in the sequel.

Having said all that I still rather enjoyed the movie and I love a good cliffhanger ending.

General Discussion / Re: The Worrier's thread

I'm a HUGE hypochondriac.

I frickin' hate it.  It comes and goes.  Recently I've been dealing with it again.

I call it the "worse case" disease.  I get some tiny little symptom and immediately it's the worst thing it could possibly be.  For instance ... the last week or so I've been getting lots of little muscle spasms (in my hands, shoulders, and legs mostly).  So I immediately assume it's something like MS, or Parkinson's disease.  I know FULL well that the odds of this are 1 in 100,000 (or something rediculous like that) but it doesn't erase the fear and worry.  It never occurs to me that it's probably just stress, and then stressing out over it just makes it worse, and then it gets worse and worse and it snowballs into the big issue ...

It's such an annoying condition to have ... because I'm well aware that I have it and that I'm making huge issues out of nothing, yet it still continues to happen.  My family and friends all tease me about it (which doesn't help, though I'm sure they think it will).  It's mostly annoying because it can really prevent you from enjoying living which, after all is said and done, is the only thing that is important.

In the end, for me at least, it's a simple fact of mind over matter.  I convince myself to stop being such a pathetic wussy and "man up" as I call it.  It usually works ... until, 10 minutes later, I get another muscle spasm and the process repeats itself ...

I rather like the unified limb movement ...

I mean, he's a fish out of water.  Stands to reason he'd be a little awkward and ungainly.  I like the lumbering ... it seems as if he's really uncomfortable having to walk, rather than swim.

While it could, as mentioned, use a few more tweens, over-all I like the direction.

I was sort of hoping this wouldn't get bumped until we were ready ...

We ARE still working on this game, have no fear!  We aren't giving up on it.

There are some MAJOR changes/updates that have taken place and we'll be posting soon (though it might be in a new thread given the number of updates and changes have rather altered the game.)

Soon ...

Please post another screenshot ... Technically you have shown us two screenies ... but they are the same.

Somebody PLEASE start a thread in the Adventure Related Board and take this conversation in there ...

This is the "Games in Production" thread for this game and it's been totally hi-jacked with talk about it's short-comings and high (eventual) price.

Bottom line:  It's their game and time put in ... they can charge whatever they want.  Don't like it?  Don't buy it.

Thank you, drive though ...

Zor took care of my little problem :)  Thanks Zor!  I'm in nostalgic heaven!!

Yeah ... I own the game(s).  But the disks just won't read in the drive.  I tried and tried to no avail.  They have been sitting in a hot/humid attic in South Florida for over a decade.  I think they simply exceeded their shelf life.

General Discussion / Space Quest I & II

Now before anybody blows up on me ... I own both these games.

I just recently found them in an old storage box and wanted to re-play them.  However, neither of them will work.  I think 15 years in storage just killed the disks (yeah, they're on 3" disks).

So here's what I'm asking ... does anybody have them?  And if so, would you be willing to e-mail them to me?  I really want to replay them.  They are small enough (file size) that emailing them is practical ;)

I was able to find them on eBay, but don't really want to re-buy them (with no guarantee they're going to work anyway).  If anybody has them, and is willing, let me know in this thread and I'll give you my email address to use.

It's not illegal because I own them right?  If this IS illegal, allow me to apologize in advance.

I think the over-all motion is pretty good!

The green ribbon doesn't look bad to me either.

There is a frame where her right arm (as it's coming forward) the hands seem to be in the exact same location for a frame (or the right arm moves into the same place as the left moves out) Does that make sense?  It throws off the smooth movement to my eyes.  That's a simple fix!

The torso seems stock still.  Just making those stripes move slightly would really sell the image!

I like the movement of the hair, at the bottoms.  But the "sheen" on the hair could shift a bit to accent the movement and would look nice!

And since you commented on the skirt, I will not.

Great start! Keep up the good work!
