That's odd ... I actually thought the ground looked really good!  Like really wet/slick cement.  The only problem I have with it is with it being that reflective the character must reflect as well ... which can be tricky.

It's VERY dark on my screen ... very hard to see some of the detail.  But I like it, overall.

The sprite looks nice enough.  Maybe too many colors (shading) which'll make animating him difficult.  But he looks stylized.

Quote from: YakSpit on Sun 30/10/2005 20:16:55It's got to be allowing all holidays to be celebrated in our public schools or none.  Which sounds more scholastic and which the more disruptive?

I agree and disagree with this ... If I, as a Christian, went to a 90% Jewish school, I would totally respect their right to observe their holidays.  However, at the same time, I would expect them to respect my observing my own (and perhaps not taking part in theirs).  I certainly wouldn't demand that they not put up a minora.  Nor would I demand they allow me to put up a Christmas tree.  I would expect that the 90% majority would rule.

So I agree that all Holidays should be allowed to be celebrated, but the majority should rule.

Quote from: Nikolas on Sun 30/10/2005 22:34:38Darth: I have to congratulate your mother! Honestly, I find teachers (not professors, plain simple teachers), amazing people that want to give! Give her my atmost respect.

Thanks, I'll pass it along!

Quote from: Nikolas on Sun 30/10/2005 22:34:38I do belive that this has something to do with politcal correctness and I find it utterly silly, stupid and I don't want to use any other words.

I'm with you there man.  Political Correctness is destroying this country.  (maybe the world).

Quote from: SSH on Sun 30/10/2005 17:25:24And Darth, the use of public money to fund religous/pagan celebrations is the issue, you know.

I'm sure it's the issue with some of it ... but my mother wants to put up Christmas decorations in her school class room (at her own expense) and the powers-that-be won't allow it.  90% of her students are Christians ... so 90% (the majority) suffer so the 10% minority don't get offended?  That's just stupid.

I was developing a conspiracy that it was actually the Christians (most likely the Catholics) who were behind this.  Because, as I stated earlier, I'm not overly religious; but shit like this makes me want to be overwhelmingly religious ... just to stick it in the winer's faces!

So every year the majority of the country's children want to dress up in costume going door to door to collect candy.  I would be willing to put money on the fact that 99.99% of those children don't have the vaguest conception of the origins of Halloween.  They just like putting on Star Wars outfits, hanging out with friends, staying out after dark, and eating candy!

And if it IS all about a protest against witches ... well ... don't witches have the right to practice their religion??

Ohhhh the hypocracy of it all!!

Critics' Lounge / Re: Antialiasing problem
Sun 30/10/2005 16:09:02
If you want to anti-alias your characters (in AGS) you need to use Alpha channels and the game must be (correct me if I'm wrong here) in 32-bit color mode.

By using alpha channels it'll blend the edges of the character to any colors in the background.

Team Hasslehoff was planning on releasing a Tech Demo for Release Something ... but due to Hurricane Wilma we're a little behind.  We're planning on releasing it sometime this (or next) week.

However ... just to take part, here is a new screenshot:

Quote from: Babar on Sun 30/10/2005 13:53:54Hahahaha...first time I've seen Halloween being celebrated as a Christian holiday. Which religions does Halloween offend?

That's kind of what I was thinking ...

But apparently it's being labeled as such.

The report wasn't very specific about the "who" was being offended.  I'd love to know.  Then I would dress up as a demon and scare the crap out of them.

General Discussion / Banning my holidays ...
Sun 30/10/2005 13:42:39
It's been awhile since I started a topic in here like this ...

But I heard something on the news this morning that just pissed me off.

A school principle, up in the Boston area, has banned the celebration of Halloween at his school.  He feels it might be offensive to some religious groups.

All right ... this is getting RE-DAMN-DICULOUS.

My mother's school (she teaches 1st grade) has already banned her from putting up Christmas decorations.

The city I live in doesn't allow businesses to put up Christmas decorations.

All of this ... because some other religions complained about it.

If you don't celebrate the same religious holidays, stop whining about others that do.  I have never seen something from another religion specifying something to do with one of their holidays that offended me.

My opinion:

The reason this really pisses me off is because in trying so hard not to offend other religions ... I am being offended.

How is this freedom of religion?

Does anybody (Christian or non-Christian) have an opinion on why this practice should be acceptable?

It should be noted that I'm not overly religious ... but I was raised Christian and celebate the Christian holidays.

I plan on putting a LOT of Christmas decorations in and around my office, and if anybody complains I will say, "doesn't your religion preach tolerance of other religions?  GET THE HELL OVER IT!!  Oh ... and MERRY CHRISTMAS!!!"

I live in Davie (just outside of Ft. Lauderdale) and we still don't have power.  They're now saying it might be as long as November 22 before our power is restored.  Sara and I are staying with my parent's in Coral Springs.

I've spent the last three/four days cutting up trees (with a chainsaw) and hauling it all out to the street.  It's not too much fun, but it needs to be done.

I've determined, however, that the world would be a fundementally nicer place if there were more natural disasters.

Everybody is being so patient and polite ... it's almost sickening.

The only places I've see it getting out of hand are the intersections (while driving) that don't have traffic lights.  Some people just can't quite grasp the concept of a four-way stop.  And the gas-lines are INSANE.  People were fighting because idiots who feel they shouldn't have to wait in line were cutting in, and the police promptly stepped in so it's under control now.

All in all, from what I've seen, I'm impressed how the people down here handled the after-math.  I haven't toured the entirety of south Florida obviously, but I've been as far north and east as Pompano, as far north and west as Coral Springs, and as far south as the southern end of Davie (by 75).  Everybody seems to be coping well and cleaning up more and more every day.

This is probably my favorite moment in sporting history ... I was on my feet cheering!

For those who don't know, it's Brandi Chastain after she scored the game winning goal against China in the 1999 FIFA Women's World Cup.  What a moment!!

Oh ... 22 colors.

Quote from: Domino on Fri 28/10/2005 19:33:36Also, having seen screen shots of the Xbox360, i'm not overly impressed. There doesn't seem to be a big enough graphical leap from the current consoles to the next gen of consoles. I guess in time, and after the developers have had time to learn the ropes of the hardware, i'm guessing games will look and play incredibly.

XBox 360 (a rediculous name) has HD support ... I have a big HDTV!  So I was toying with getting one (or the Playstation 3 which has dual HD outputs).  I have hooked up a gaming computer to the HDTV and played Half-Life 2, FarCry, HALO, Max Payne 2 and Doom 3 in HD and they look amazing!  (some of them required a download patch to allow the game to run at 1280x720)

They look so good, in fact, that I can't play the old consoles on that TV anymore ... they just look flat.

They are a little pricey though.  The US release is, I believe, around $300 USD.  Although the gaming computer I have hooked up cost me about 10 times that ... so who am I to complain :)

C'mon guys ...

No more off-topic stuff.

Go to the AGS Help file and type "cutscenes" ...

It really can't be explained better than that.

You know it's funny.

The other day I was doing what I do every few months ... I read through the member names to see names that make me say, "Wonder where he's been?"  and I actually noticed your name and now ... here you are!

Perhaps I'm Sigh-Kick?

Hmmm ...

Anyhow ... Welcome back!!

Yo!

My parent's got power (and more importantly internet access) back just now!  So needless to say Sara and I will be hangin' here for awhile!

I get my first shower in 3 days ... eek!

Grund - good to hear you're okay!Ã,  I think we took the brunt of this one and let you Dade folk have a "slight" break :)

I took pictures ... it's hard to believe.Ã,  When I get my office back up and running (I am moving it into my parent's house temporarily!) I will post some of them!

As SSH pointed out ... there's still 6 more weeks.Ã,  We surely don't need another one.

On a positive note, the last two days have been the best weather I've ever experienced here in South Florida.Ã,  I spent all day yesterday and today cleaning up my parent's yards.Ã,  What a mess.Ã,  BUT I couldn't have asked for better days to do it.Ã,  Cloudless sky, about 68-70 degrees.Ã,  Just perfect!

And yes ... it is INCREDIBLY boring without power!!Ã,  How did mankind EVER survive before electricity ?!?!

You read the rules, realized you couldn't follow them, and posted anyway?

For future reference ... if you can't follow the rules, don't post (especially in the Games in Production board).

On Topic:

What do you mean you don't have the "screenshot button"?

Your keyboard doesn't have a "print screen" feature?

How are you creating the art for the game?  You can't paste a screencap into that application?
