What in the HOLY HELL?!?!?  I had to delete nearly 15 pointless posts.

Any more [ rediculous ] off-topic ramblings like that will simply be deleted.

** Do NOT reply to this with apologies

SVCoyle - the backgrounds look good, and the GUI looks interesting.

Keep it up!

Oh ... and thanks for actually reading the rules and making a proper post!  It's refreshing when somebody does ;)

The DVD's just came out in September, maybe that's what you heard about?  I hope so because I, too, hope they don't try to remake it ... it is perfect as is!

There was this show (cartoon) that I used to love!  But for the life of me I can't recall the name.  Maybe some of you can recall ...

There were this group of people (one was a wizard named, I think, Gillian) and they fought against this enemy that used vegetation as a weapon.  These growing vine type things.

Sound familiar to anybody?

Also ...

Thundercats - Hooooo!!  A few years ago I found a website that had a bunch of out-takes of the voice recording sessions and you could hear them all cussin' and laughing and joking.  It was hilarious.

Another show (toys) I loved was M.A.S.K.

Also, M.U.S.C.L.E.S. the little pink (and then other colored) wrestlers.

I, like Ashen, could just keep going.  Ahhh ... nostalgia is fun!

This competition is over ...

The winner is big brother's re-incarnated Ben from full throttle!!

Prog's was a VERY close second ... but I think BB captured the point of the contest better!

Congrats BB!!

OUTSTANDING!!

This game is so full of life and story!  I love it ...

Just that short little demo.

The cutscenes were great, the animation, the sound.

A+ man!  Keep up the good work!

"Girl in the Tower" - played in the credits of King's Quest IV (I think it was IV).

It was the first time I played a game that had real music and I was blown away!  It was just in the credits but still ... it totally suprised me.  Since then music (in games) hasn't had that effect on me.

I think I'll remember that forever.

I still listen to the song ... found the mp3 a few years back.

Quote from: Mr_Threepwood on Sun 16/10/2005 05:35:01the problem is when i cut and pastes the range photoshop makes it smaller (maybe its anti aliasing it or trimming it or something).  How do i get it to cut exactly what i have selected, so it doesnt change a pixel?

How are you selecting the color range?  Are you using the wand tool?  Or from the menues?  Either way, if you're using anti-aliasing, this is likely to happen.  Because you're pasting the color range onto a different color background and it's going to "blend" it to the new background color.

If you're using the SELECT > Color Range menu option, you'll need to play around with the fuzziness setting.  I understand the use of this tool, but I never use it.  I prefer the wand.

If you're using the wand tool, you can turn off anti-aliasing and up the tolerance to get more of the range.  This might achieve the effect you're after.

Quote from: Mr_Threepwood on Sun 16/10/2005 05:35:01Also with the part i do put onto the new layer, when i try to move it it seems to be snapping to certain points of the image, is there a way to turn this snapping off?

Do you have any guide lines on the image?  If so, use CTRL-; to remove them (temporarily) for free movement.  You use CTRL - ; to turn them back on as well. (to permanently remove them; ALT-V-S)

I removed this (identical) post from the Games in Production board.  This kind of post doesn't belong in there.  Please read the FORUM RULES for that board before posting in there and do not double post like that.

Had you read that board's rules you'd see the rule about not digging up old threads and to "send the author a PM" to find out.

Have you tried this?

I just spent a few minutes on this ...

Still keeps it light enough in the cell to see what's going on, and conveys darkness.  I also carried the light in from the hallway into the cell.

Hope it helps!

What's with the grotesque blackness at the bottom? I get that the sides are bushes, but nothing in nature is perfectly straight like whatever that ungodly abomination in the middle is!

I thought it was space for a GUI?

I'd say the image looks pretty good for 10 minutes and a 1st day with a new tablet!

Quote from: calacver on Thu 13/10/2005 21:39:14There aren't many forumns with someone as strict as you patrolling around the threads. You're scary man. Maybe you're taking the i'm-in-control-thing a bit too far. Relax. Chill.

And most of those forums (from what I've seen) are so filled with clutter and crap that you can't find the imformation you're looking for because of nonsense, off-topic, crap filling up the thread.

I don't see why I'm scary?  I don't take the "I'm in control" thing too far, nor do I see the need to chill and/or relax.  There are rules, I enforce them.  It's pretty simple really.

Quote from: calacver on Thu 13/10/2005 21:39:14I think mostly people DO bump old threads mainly because you make such a big issue of it. You're a bit sarcastic.

So it's okay to break the rules because the moderator is sarcastic?  I think not.

Guys ... any more questions/comments about Mr. Bum's post and/or about my moderation, direct them to me in a PM and stop killing DC's thread.

Thanks.

HEY I got an idea.  Let's ruin a bunch of good threads by acting like a drill sargeant and posting a bunch of rules.  You can't do this you can't do that blah blah blah . . . Maybe think about just letting people post and read as they like, instead of making the forums like a prison huh?

Well since you have 5 posts, I will take your advice.  I think we should remove all the FORUM RULES.  I'll talk it over with the other moderators and get back to you ASAP!!

Quote from: Beach Bum112885 on Thu 13/10/2005 19:06:10Oh well, I'll probably be banned for this, but at least I got to say it, because it's what a lot of people think.

I'm glad you know what a lot of people think.  You should know, since you know so much about this community, that we don't ban folks around these parts.

Quote from: Beach Bum112885 on Thu 13/10/2005 19:06:10Does it feel cool to have power and delete posts and post a bunch of rules in every thread?

That's clever.  I, too, am a fan of reverse psychology.

Now that you've vented, and I truely do hope you feel better, here's the juice:

Do not post in any threads in here unless what you have to say involves the game of the thread you are posting in.  Any more off-topic (or complaining) posts will be deleted.

The rules exist for a reason.  If you don't like them, don't post here.

Thanks.

DCIllusion - Sorry your post got used for this riff-raff.

I think it's a great idea!

We had Neil Nduma as our background artist for a bit (on Amulet of Kings) ... he used a similar technique.  He used a high end 3D program (I believe it was MAX) to rough-in the scene and place light sources.  Then he pixelled over it in Photoshop.

I still prefer pixel by pixel myself ... but this'd be really helpful for the people who don't have the patience for that :)

Quote from: Squinky on Wed 12/10/2005 22:06:08Is there any way to emulate this style of dithered gradients in photoshop? I've tried a bit, and the closest I could get was setting the gradient to dissolve and posturizing, but it still looks different....

I made that paint-over in Photoshop :)

Eric's link is exactly how I do it.

You know ... if just the colors of her shirt/pants were to change.  It would be a change of clothes and not require any re-animating, just color replacing.

I own 4 pair of shorts that are all the same, just different colors, and about 30 t-shirts like that.

Just a suggestion :)

agreed, shift b comes natural to me now but whenever I use Imageready the pencil tool is still N! Explain that!

Plus I hate how photoshop and imageready don't do some things exactly the same, brush sizes and how they're represented on screen is handled differently in each program! Make-a-no-sense-a!

It took me FOREVER to get used to using B for the pencil tool.  Now that I'm finally used to it, watch 'em change it back!

I avoid ImageReady like the plague (unless I need to animate a GIF) for exactly the reasons you stated.  I don't see why they don't just combine ImageReady's functionality into Photoshop in the first place!

I don't think the orange is the "psychadelic" part Andail was referring to.

More the way the room doesn't seem "normal".  The gradients (as was already mentioned) go every which way.

Here's a quick paint-over to show you how to (I think) effectively use gradients:

Hope you find it helpful!

I hardly use the menues/toolbars in Photoshop ... I'm ALL hotkeys.

My girlfriend uses Photoshop at work sometimes, but when she watches me use it she doesn't understand it because I just tap keys so quickly.  I guess that comes from a decade of using the program (good lord now I feel old!!)

The trick is knowing what keys are for which tools.

It would be wrong to list them though ... because, and this is the one major complaint I have with Adobe, they changed the key designations from version to version (and the menu layouts).

So some of the hotkeys changed.  Which is EXTREMELY annoying.  Especially considering that for pixel art the pencil tool was N and now that's some dumb Note thing ... B is now the pencil tool.  Nothing more frustrating than thinking I'm switching back to draw and I get a big sticky note instead.

I didn't realize it was so complicated ...

Just the re-incarnated sprite.  If you can't make it clear who it is/was, graphically, then a description is fine.
#3279
Corey - in the last sprite jam I asked you to stop cluttering up the the thread with non-entries ... and you do it yet again??

Besides that ... you miss the point of this jam.  Hitler was an anti-semetic and homophobic Nazi.  Being re-incarnated as a homosexual rabbi would "severly clash" with his former existence.

Do not reply to this, unless it's with an entry.

People, from this point on, unless you have a question about your entry, DON'T post unless it's an entry.

Keep the conversations out of here please!  Thanks.

Critics' Lounge / Re: EGA to VGA C&C

I don't really get a VGA feeling from this ... more like an EGA style, just using colors that aren't in the EGA pallette.

This is more what I think of when I think VGAish:

- I only touched up a few spots (the wall, floor, and bed)

This is, from an EGA screen, a pretty easy effect to create.

Hope it helps!
