Don't really have any major comments on the image.  It's not bad, but not striking either.

You should, if possible, avoid using special characters like that in the name of the image.  It doesn't, at least
on my screen, show up in FireFox (I had to load the dreaded IE to see the image).

This image is off to a GREAT start!  I have made a few alterations ...

- added carpet to the floor and increased the contrast
- darkened the shading on the floor
- added hi-lights (armoire, curtains)
- fixed shading on the chair (was reversed)
- altered the coloring of the desk and night stand
- added a door
- changed outline color of the floor mat

Some things I would suggest:

- add base boards
- add foreground objects (as already suggested)

Also, I love the sprite of the little girl.  She looks a bit like the daughter from 'The Incredibles'!

Keep up the good work!

I'd have to agree with voh ...

Loom was definitely the most moving adventure game I played.  The environment of the game created such a ... feeling ... I don't know, it's hard to describe.  It was just a "moving" game for me.

I liked Space Quest III the most, but it didn't have quite as strong of a "feeling" as I got from Loom.

Both games, when I think back on playing them, have strong memory tied to them.

The scariest movie I ever saw ??  It was called "The Search Feature".

Here's a synapsis ...

Quote from: Corey on Sun 25/09/2005 15:45:22-America sucks coz they rip asian horror movie and americainize them...

Rrrrright ... because an asian movie full of asian culture and language would do soooooo much better in an American culture than a version of the movie geared towards the market which it's being played in.

Good point!

I'm confused ... the title says "prison camp" but your description calls it a "luxery camp"?  Which is it?

It's not bad ...

It's lacking some details though.

If it IS a prison camp, you need to add details like guard towers and possible barb-wire.  Stuff like that.  The open space isn't a bad idea (gives the prisoners too much open ground to cover if they attempt an escape) but the walls should have some kind of entrance/exit spot.

As was suggested the sky probably shouldn't be visible.

Also, as you mentioned having troubles with trees ... if you want them to look like trees I'd suggest adding in some tree trunks.  Just play around with it and see what you come up with.  Right now it really does look like grass.

Lastly ... shadows/light source.  Looks like your light source is coming from the bottom of the picture (as evidenced by the highlight on the river bank.)  So you could add some shadows to the buildings, tents, and walls.

It'd add a lot more life the the picture!

General Discussion / Re: Hurricane Coming!!!

Batton down the hatches matey!!

I went through a category 3 last season ... I have to tell you that the most overwhelming sensation was boredom.

The initial excitement of seeing a hurricane for the first time wears off after the first 10 minutes with no power!

Best of luck and stay dry.

Please read the FORUM RULES before posting on these boards.

Thanks.

[lgm] - I'm shocked!!!

DO NOT dig up old threads!!
If you're interested in an old thread* about a project don't post asking about the progress.  Send a PM to the game's author.  If the project has been cancelled and/or abandoned there's no point in bumping the thread!

Shame shame!!

Critics' Lounge / Re: Walkcycle sketch
Wed 21/09/2005 16:18:28
When I see BB's 10 frame animation I keep hearing the opening beat to "Stayin' Alive" playing ... totally excellent!

I use 8 frames for almost all my walk-cycles.   I feel it achieves the best motion with the least ammount of frames.

Although sometimes, if it looks alright, I will pull a front walk-cycle down to six frames.  For side walkies though, it's usually 8 frames.

I added the screenshots to the first post and unlocked the thread.

Alrighty then ... I'm gonna go ahead and lock this thread. :)

Thanks for your understanding!

When you have found yourself a background artist, and have quite a few backgrounds completed, go ahead and just start a new thread.

As for the "newbie's mistakes" ... we all made them at one time or another!

Read the sticky threads at the tops of each of the boards and you should make less of them ;)

Good luck with the game!

When I read the thread my thoughts went an entirely different direction!

I was more envisioning something corny, yet cool, out of a cheesy 80's action/thriller.  Less of a "sentence" using the letters of STORM, and more of a list.

Such as:

Strength * Tactics * Observation * Resources * Mandate

"We operate by five principals; strength, tactics, observation, resources, and mandate.  We are called on when the situation is critical.  We are the last, best, line of defense.  Gentlemen ... welcome to STORM!"

Just thought I'd contribute ... even if that's not what you're looking for :)

Quote from: storyteller on Mon 19/09/2005 15:15:05Best if you at least prep some 'concept art' you put in-game, which can be replaced later on with the better backgrounds.

No no no ...

If these backgrounds are not the final "in-game" graphics, then it's too early to have made this post.  As clearly stated in the Forum Rules!!

If you want to post some "concept" art ... do so in the Critics Lounge.  Get some feedback, get some people interested in helping you, make some actual "in-game" backgrounds, and THEN release a Games in Production thread.

This is an international community here ...

Sometimes it can take awhile to get replies, you just need to be a little more patient.

Also, I combined your posts.  Please do not double post like that.

If these backgrounds are just "drafts" as you say ... then I would have to say that this game isn't far enough into production to have it's own post in here.  If you're looking for help with the project post in the ACR Thread asking for it.

If these screenies aren't "in-game" shots as will appear in the final game, please let me know.

#3336
There is a Hints & Tips board for these kinds of posts.

Please keep this thread about the production, not about playing the game.

General Discussion / Re: A Query?

As for the PM you sent me earlier ...

The problem with your signature was the font which said, "and the fanatic muggle".

It was HUGE!!!  It's much better now.

Don't get me wrong, I'm a huge Harry Potter fan (maybe even a fanatic muggle) but there are forum restrictions on the size of the signatures width / height; and yours was (on my screen at least) about three times the allowed height!  Hence, the PM I sent you.  These restrictions are printed directly above where you enter the signature information (they specifically mention images, but when using over-sized fonts it's essentially the same thing)

This is the General Discussion board ... and since you aren't sure if/who to PM you may as well ask your question(s) in here (now that you've started a thread!)

I included that link already, but thanks :)

Hey guys and gals!

My cousin Hannah has a disease called PKD (polycystic kidney disease).

She is a young, adorable budle of joy:

On September 17, she (and her mother and some other members of my family) are participating in a "Walk for PDK" charity type thing.  Basically it's to elevate awareness of this disease and raise money to fund more research towards a cure.

I donated money and felt like I had done my part.

Then my brother and his wife donated, AND he got some of his friends at the forums he attends to donate too.  I hadn't thought of this approach so I thought I'd post here to see if anybody here would be interested in helping out.

Click here to make a donation on Hannah's behalf

I know these types of posts are usually frowned on 'round here, but this is slightly different.  The money doesn't go to me, or even a person, but rather to a foundation.

I am not expecting anybody to donate and I won't be disappointed if nobody does, I just thought I'd post here to see if anybody was interested.

Even if the only thing I accomplish is making some of you aware of this disease I'll feel I have done something :)

Thanks for any and all help!

General Discussion / Re: Decent Name 4 A Band?
Sun 11/09/2005 21:26:54
Ummm ... this is the Critics Lounge?

Perhaps if you had a name already picked out, we could critique it for you.  But this forum isn't really for that kind of thing.

Also ... before we could, realisitically, suggest names for a band; we'd need to know a little about the band.  What type of music do you play, what are your influences, etc.

Though don't waste time answering that question yet ... I'm sure this is gonna get moved or locked!
