I've had plans to remake Space Quest III for awhile now ... just too many other projects keep coming up first!

If you're going to remake the graphics into a VGA style I would recommend changing them much more than you have.

As you have them now they're very similar to the originals and thus the comparison makes the new images suffer.  The reason I say suffer is because most of us, myself included, consider the EGA graphics of Space Quest III just about as good as EGA graphics get.  So making them so similar tends to 'clash' if you take my meaning.

If you're going for more than 16 colors, go all out with colors and shading.  Keep the 'feel' of each background, but differentiate it enough to avoid such similarity to the originals!

Best of luck.

- added shading to the front of the desk
- fixed the desk's shadow

The buildings outside the window appear to be connected to one another (or VERY close together).  I circled in blue the area I'm referring to.  While not as obvious in your latest version(s), due the curtains and window details, it's still there!  I would suggest seperating them a bit.

Hope it helps.

First of all, it's great!  Very retro and nostalgic and I dig it!!

What YakSpit said about the chairs is the first thing that caught my eyes when looking at this bg.

I did a paint-over:

- changed the bright red door
- changed the chair colors so they didn't blend in with the consoles
- altered the shadow colors on the floor
- altered the panel lines color to a darker color
- added dimension to the side chairs
- added some shading effects

Hope this helps!

By the way, it's great to see you making games again junc!  Welcome back :)

Quote from: Babar on Fri 27/05/2005 22:52:00Awwww...your saying that because too many people like it, it is not worth anything.
There are undoubtedly great rap songs. No one can dispute that. There are also undoubtedly very crappy rap songs. No one can dispute that either. But it is the same with every genre of music. Just because you probably have heard more crappy rap (heheh..that almost rhymes) than good rap is no reason to condemn the whole genre.

I'm saying it's drivel because the rap and hiphop that is popular these days is shit.  It's just simply crap.  Now a lot disagree with me, obviously given its popularity, but that's still my opinion.  Rap started out great ... now it doesn't make mainstream unless it's gansta rap thug crap.

I just don't see anything good coming from it.

It's not me getting older and it's not a thing against black people.  It's just me against a crap form of 'sound'.

I was attempting to be funny :)

Just because most of the music that is popular (in America at least) is just cookie cutter crap.  And Rap is probably the most popular 'sound' in America and it's just worthless drivel.  I call it 'sound' because, in my opinion, it's not music.

Bo is most definitely a rocker 'cause his music is rock :)

Interesting ... a remake of homestarrunner's game.

Not a bad gag.

Fix your signature graphic.  It's almost 4 times the allowed height.

Bo is a rocker 'cause of his style.

If he wore baggy pants and had chains and lots of piercing and tatoos he'd be a punk.

If he had pants hanging down to his knees with his ass hanging out with gold teeth and hat on sideways he'd be a rapper/hiphopper.

Rock is the last vestige of hope for the music in America.  Bo is a shining light in the dark!!!

I watched it again last night ...

I, grugingly, must agree that the dialog does get a bit stiff at parts.  I kept finding myself saying things like, "it would have been better if he had said this instead" or something like that. I think GL should have had Kevin Smith write the dialog for him.  Smith (with a few exceptions) writes some of the best dialog in Hollywood.

I really enjoyed what George has done, BUT I think there are things I would have done very differently.  I have started completely re-writing the prequels as I envison them.  Just for fun.  Below is my thoughts on Episode III

My thoughts on how episode III should have gone down. - it's a long read, but worth it if you're a Star Wars fan. Edit Link removed ... I'm revising.

(this is still early version ... might change a bit)

Quote from: Kinoko on Fri 27/05/2005 06:02:33I was unhappy about season 3 all over the place. Fantasia just really got my goat. She was the dumbest b*tch I'd seen in a long time, and I thought she sung like a cat having it's head ripped off. I can't remember Diana but I never thought either of the final 2 deserved to be there. I can't exactly remember her name, but the winner without a doubt for me should have been... Latoya? I would have liked to see er (damn, can't remember names) the other older black guy. Both were brilliant singers and had a real command over the stage.

Latoya London and George Huff ... both were better than Fantasia.  I totally agree.  I was shocked when Latoya was cut.

Quote from: Sylpher on Fri 27/05/2005 15:13:15My only beef with the show, besides the obvious, is that no really good music has come out of it. All the people who go on after the show put out mediocre albums that are trying so hard to sell they crumble under there own weight.

Kelly Clarkson has a few songs that I really like.  I think she's finally breaking out of the American Idol image and becoming her own.  As for the rest ... bah ... I liked Clay Aiken a lot but the fact is he really only had 1 song that I really liked and that was a remake (On the Wings of Love by Jeffery Osborne).  His performance of "Bridge Over Troubled Water" was quite impressive though.

I think Bo is going to be the first Idol to have wide-spread success after the show.  Just a hunch.

Quote from: Kinoko on Fri 27/05/2005 01:45:42Pff, well I LOVE it. I hate reality tv usually but these shows are great. I've only seen the recent 2 seasons of American Idol (last years winner gives me nightmares) and we're currently starting the third season of Australian Idol (seen 'em all, but getting less interested...).

I thought Fantasia and Diana were pretty evenly matched, vocally.

Fantasia was about as intelligent as a brick, and that pissed me off.  Couldn't stand her personality ... she seemed really ghetto trash.  The chick could sing though.

Diana didn't come off as much smarter, but her personality was must brighter (to me).  She seemed like a good person.  Which, to my way of thinking, should be a major part of an "idol".

Fantasia lost ALL my respect when she sang the words wrong to "Believe".  She sang, "Ever catched a shooting star ..."  If you're a 20+ something english speaking native and you use the word "catched" you need to go back to kindergarten ... rediculous!  Dolt.

Don't even get me started on season 2 ...

Ruben had personality but Clay Aiken straight up outsang him EVERY time ... what a waste that was.  I think it was rigged, seriously.  Look who's had a multi-platinum album, a Christmas album, was on mTV several times, talk-shows, and the new years eve parties and is still talked about regularly ... Clay.

Ruben was in Scooby Doo 2 ...

Congratulations to Carrie Underwood!!

Bet you didn't see this coming ...

Okay, confession time.  I am absolutely hooked on American Idol.

I started watching it because it was on before 24 and there was nothing else on ... the rest is history.

I love this show.  This year was the best yet.  The top 8 this season were better than the top 2 of all previous seasons (to my opinion).

I was actually really torn with who to vote for this season.  Bo was a favorite of mine from the beginning just because it was nice to see a true rocker makin' it through.  (Constantine was a favorite too, but second to Bo).

In the end my vote went to Carrie ... just because I truely don't think Bo needed Idol.  I mean, for God's sake, Clive Davis told Bo, "Win or lose this show, you and I are going to have a good time making a record!"  What more do you need?

Carrie, who is breath-takingly gorgeous, got up there every week and sang her ass off.  I think she earned it more.  Being on stage just comes naturally to Bo and, while I think he belonged in the top 2, I think Carrie deseverved it more just because of her improvement.

Hi-lights of the season:

- Bo's acoustic version of "within a dream" - blew me away
- Vonzell's smile - 1 of the best I've EVER seen
- Carrie's duet w/ the Rascall Flatts "God Blessed the Broken Road"
- Simon telling Bo that it was a pleasure having him on the show (from Simon that's huge!)
- Randy telling Carrie she was in the 'dawg' pound
- Paula's tears when Constantine was sent home

Anybody else who watched and was addicted as I was?

The reason I started this thread is because it's been my experience that a LOT of people actually really hate American Idol and I'm actually very surprised at the fact that I love this show.  I'm wondering if it's had a similar effect on others.

Sara (my girlfriend for those that don't know) hated the show before this season.  She started watching it 'cause I watched it and soon was an addict as well.

I'd also suggest steering away from adding a neck.  This looks much more 'thugish' to me this way.

I would also suggest you take Redrum's advice on the stance to make it more natural looking.

The biggest problem I can see (which has stuck through all the paint-overs) is lack of pectorals.  He has huge arms/shoulders that dominate his upper body almost no mass to his chest.  It looks odd.

Here's a quick paint-over:

Hope it helps.

Use the Search up top.  There have been several threads for this already.

Also, check the sticky threads at the tops of the different boards.

I would strongly suggest finding a hosting company that is not free.  You can find stuff for as cheap as $5 (USD) a month which will be ad / popup free hosting with FTP access.

In my opinion this is a much better way to go.

All three screenshots show the same background ...

You need to include at least one more background.

Is the character in the latest screenshot the 'in-game' character?  I see you're still using Roger in the other screenie?  Do you have your character made yet?

Lastly, please do not double post.

Quote from: Las Naranjas on Wed 25/05/2005 05:44:36It looks out of place because he didn't steal it from somewhere else, it's 100% original.

I wouldn't mind the purple lightsaber if, as jetxl said, there were lots of different colored lightsabers throughout the Jedi ranks.

But ....

Awhile back, before Episode II came out, the StarWars.com databank specifically said that lightsabers were blue or green for Jedi and that Sith used red sabers because the crystals they used for their sabers required the darkside to be channeled into them and that made them red.

This made sense to me.  I liked the concept.

So when Mace had his silly looking purple blade (in AotC) my thoughts turned to some clever plot twist that Mace was actually a bad guy.  That his blade was actually blue but because of his use of the darkside some red snuck in there thus making it purple ...  I strengthened this theory as a plausible way that the Emperor, a Dark Sith Lord, could hide in plain site in front of the Jedi IF a high ranking member of the Jedi Council was in league with him.

I don't think it's unreasonable that all Jedi have either blue or green blades.  The explanation sw.com used to give made sense and he should have stuck with it in my opinion.

Hello. The story arc of the prequals were concieved 20/30/whatever years ago but not actually written until recently. It's pretty obvious that Georgie has been inspired by recent political shenanigans... well, obvious if you aren't looking in the other direction.

Sorry Stalky, I just don't buy it.

As I said in my last post:

"If you're not with me you're my enemy" is NOT a statement coined by George Bush.

It has been said throughout history countless times.

It has been used in several movies in Hollywood's history as well.

Revenge of the Sith is not a political statement about the current administration nor is it anti-Bush.

George Lucas doesn't have to make statements this way.  If he has something to say, he'd simply say it.

Anakin had gone over to the darkside.  He was saying, "support me or oppose me ... make your choice" it had NOTHING to do with George Bush.

Can parallels be drawn?  Sure.  But I could also draw parallels to Hitler, Stalin, Mussolini, etc.

Lucas himself said that he didn't write it about Bush (or the current administration) in the article I linked to many posts ago.  He admits that it can be related to recent events, but wasn't conceived and/or written about them.

If he had written it about Bush why would he say he didn't?  I'm not looking the other direction :)  I'm just relaying what Lucas himself said about the "anti-Bush" claims.

I think the more appropriate thing to talk about here would be how George Bush is doing things to America that allow for parallels to what happened to the Star Wars' Republic.  (Which Lucas envisioned 30 years ago with the troubles in Vietnam, not present day Viet ... er ... Iraq.)

Edit - Oh ... and Mace Windu's purple lightsabre is the one shining turd that I absolutely HATE about the prequels.  It's dumb looking, out of place, and shouldn't have been allowed.  I can't believe Lucas allowed that.

Ben and Yoda both know that in order to "save the galaxy" Darth Vader must be killed/removed from the equation.

They had both been assuming it would be Luke to do it.

When they realized that Luke might be killed because he was facing Vader too early (wasn't ready yet) Ben made the statement, "That boy was our only hope ..."

Yoda, a little more optimistically says, "No ... there is another."

I never took from this that Ben didn't know about Leia. Ã, I figured it was more like, "We're out of time ... that boy was our only hope."

To which Yoda replies, "No, there is another. Ã, Enough time we must have!"

Sure, Ben knows about Leia, but Leia hasn't been studying the force for the past 3 years and practicing with a lightsaber, etc.Ã,  She doesn't even know she has force potential.Ã,  She doesn't know Vader is her father.

If there's one thing the prequels have cleared up for me about the Originals is that the Jedi are arrogant and manipulative and think they always know what's right/best.Ã,  (which in most cases they do)Ã,  Yoda and Ben are just doing what they believe to be right and that is steering Luke towards a confrontation with his father and hoping that the outcome would be the one they want.

Just my thoughts ...

At first I was angry about all the CGI in the prequels ...

But then I realized that if he used the same special effects from eps IV-VI it would have been a disaster!  The movies would have been even less accepted then.

George had a vision back in the day to create this Space Opera.   He made the first 3 movies as close to his vision as the technology would allow at the time.  Now that he can go back and make the rest of his vision exactly how he wanted to back then why wouldn't he?

Also ... somebody commented earlier about why the wookies were included and they didn't belong etc.  Ewoks were originally supposed to be wookies and Endor was Kashyyk but the budget and technology didn't permit so the Ewoks were born.  He always wanted to visit the wookies homeworld, so he did it in Episode III.  I liked it.

Lastly ... a scene (perhaps my fav in the movie) that keeps sticking in my head is the scene where Bail Organa is shooed away from the Jedi Temple as the purge is going on and that young padawan comes out and goes down fighting.  For some reason that was my favorite scene in the movie.  I just really liked it.
