GOOD SWEET LORD!!!!!

From the FORUM RULES:

DO NOT dig up old threads!!
If you're interested in an old thread about a project don't post asking about the progress.  Send a PM to the game's author.  If the project has been cancelled and/or abandoned there's no point in bumping the thread!

Zor - if you're still working on this game PM me.

I agree that you should use your original title, even if there is a real city called that.  However, if you are going to go with Bullet City instead, update your first post to reflect the title change.

Quote from: Flukeblake on Mon 23/05/2005 05:06:29if i was tripleposting i would be saying the exact same thing as i did 3 posts up or something. This is a completely NEW topic.

Firstly, you're wrong.  You have three posts in a row and they ARE about the same thing.  They're about your game, in a thread about your game.  Even if they were about different things it wouldn't matter.  It IS triple posting ... don't do it again.

Second, before you try and educate me, check your facts.  If you have a problem with my methods of moderation please send me a PM with your concerns rather than making it public.

Try to understand that when I 'moderate' I'm not coming down on your personally, but doing what needs to be done to keep these boards clean and well structured.

Critics' Lounge / Re: PaintShop Pics
Mon 23/05/2005 16:01:00
First of all, calm down on the demanding of critics.  People 'round these parts will critique if they want, not because you demand it.

In my opinion:

The pictures look like somebody just learning to use Paint Shop.

They are over dependent on textures and filters.

The "Directors Cut" is the only one that has any semblance of style (and only a little at that).

And, as Ishmael said, you need to size down the sig picture.

It is twice the allowed height.  Read the text that is hidden, in plain sight, directly above where you enter your sig's information.

QuoteHere's one for you - in 'Empire' Obi-Wan doesn't know that Leia is Luke's brother until Yoda tells him, yet he watched Padme giving birth!
Interesting.  I never interpretted it that way.  All he said was, "That boy was our last hope ..." and Yoda says, "No ... there is another" in reference to Leia.  I never interpretted that as Ben not knowing about Leia.  I mean ... it IS Ben who tells Luke of Leia in RotJ.

QuoteOh yes, how long does it take them to build the Death Star between Episode 3 and 4? Certainly a damnsite longer than it takes between Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi. Time, it makea no sense!
Again this isn't something that really bothered me ... I mean, who's to say?  Maybe they built it in 3 years but making the 'super laser' takes them a lot longer.  Maybe that's not the same death star as in A New Hope.  Maybe it's a 'prototype' or a smaller model or something?  Maybe the 'super laser' in Star Wars was an upgrade to aging weapons platform?

QuoteMaybe it's the same reason in Episode 4 why one of Vader's cronies says something along the lines of "you don't scare me with your heebie-jeebie lah-de-dah ramblings of an ancient dead religion" shortly before being strangled by Darth's heebie jeebie lah de dah mind powers. It can't have been more than 30 years ago that Jedi's were everywhere dude, surely you can remember! They were all excecuted after plotting to overthrow the Chancellor, you  must have at least heared about it on the radio.
That's funny :)  Made me laugh.  I think the point here was that a lot of people had lost faith in the Jedi.  They didn't like them anymore even when they were around.  OR they were sick of them and wanted them removed.  Kind of like Nazis dislike of the Jews.  They doubted the power of the force.  After near 20 years of no Jedi I'm sure memory of their power would start to fade ...

Again, it's funny how differently the same material can be interpretted.  I don't see any of these as plot holes, but I guess I can understand how you do.

Quote(Incidently this response isn't a personal attack on you Darth if it seems like it, it's just given me a good chance to elaborate on the feelings I had after watching Ep 3. Wink )
No worries!  I asked you to elaborate and you did so quite nicely :)

You should have waited to post this ...

You don't even have a player sprite yet and all cursors and GUIs appear to be default.

Quote from: Sotoeovoeon on Sun 22/05/2005 05:36:43i could really use a 3CPO char spirite  ( a char painted yellow will do 4 now)  if anyone can do that for starters.
3P0 is going to be your player character AND you need somebody to make him for you?

Are you going to use all scanned/ripped backgrounds instead of making custom BGs yourself?

Also, you need to convert those images to JPGs, or GIFs (as I suggested to you in the CL) and post them in the thread rather than just linking to them.

If the game goes along the Star Wars story line why does your title suggest the game is called "Revenge of the Jedi"?  There is no story line already in place to go with that title.  (I'm aware it was a working title of Return of the Jedi)  So does your game follow RotJ or A New Hope?

Quote from: Sotoeovoeon on Sun 22/05/2005 05:36:43Ipics  will Put of the game up when i figure out how to make it show my picture rather than the address. i havnt used the file uploader before and i need to read up on it.
Not quite sure what that meant, but if you don't know how to upload and insert pictures you should have waited until you did.

I'm not going to lock this thread [yet] but it's riding the highway to the Danger Zone ...

My opinion is that the new movies suck and will always suck, even if they weren't crap, because new movies should never have been made. Star Wars was fine the way it was, and George is a dickhead. I hate him, I hate the new movies, and I refuse to catalogue them in my brain as being apart of the Star Wars I know and love. I'm so fucking sick of now having to specify "the original trilogy" when I want to say, "I love Star Wars". This whole situation shits me, I hate him, I hate the movies. They can all go to hell, and they suck.

There. Take that, y'all. Yo.

You are literally angry with rage!

Anger leads to the darkside Kinoko ... I say go for it :)

Quote from: Dark Stalkey on Sat 21/05/2005 13:13:42The Anti-Bush stuff was good though.

It wasn't anti-Bush.  It was anti-Vietnam.

"Filmmaker George Lucas insists that the genesis of his story dates back 30 years. But he pointed out that certain themes do seem to repeat themselves, whether here and now or a long time ago in a galaxy far, far away."  (source: Washington Post article)

While it may have some similarities and parallels to our current commander-in-chief, it wasn't written about him.

Honestly guys, I think you were all expecting FAR too much.  I don't think the acting in the prequels was any worse than the original trilogy.  In the end it has the same plot (now that you can see the first three in a row) which is revealed to be about Anakin Skywalker.

Ep IV - Ep VI's special effects were top-of-the-line back in 77-83 and Ep I - Ep III's are top of the line now.

About the only gripe I would agree with is that the dialogue was better in the originals, but the dialogue in the prequels isn't as horrible as all the bashers complain about.

I admire George for doing it the way he wanted.  I, personally, would love to have the clout to do it 'my way' and make the movie I wanted to see.

Personally I think Ep III tied the whole series together nicely.

Correct me if I'm wrong ... but this is the second time you've done this.

The next time the thread will simply vanish.

The Sith Lord has spoken.

edit - It has been brought to my attention that this is, in fact, the third time you've done this.

Critics' Lounge / Re: The Classroom
Sat 21/05/2005 04:22:35
I think you're off to a really good start with this background (especially for a first attempt!)

The desks (as others have mentioned) are too small.  They look more like coffee tables.  Also, all the other elements of the room are very contrasty (meaning the outlines are very defined) and the desks, in comparison, look very washed out as a result.

Suggestions
- make the desks taller.  I think they're big enough, just need to be taller.
- make the desks' outlines more contrasty (like the rest of the image)
- make the door a little shorter.
- make the window by the door a picture instead.  Unless the classroom is a stand alone unit it's more likely outside the door would be a hallway rather than open air?
- the black outline around the one poster looks a little odd.  Unless it's supposed to have a black outline!

Just some suggestions.  I hope they help you.

Great start!

Spoiler
I liked hearing Vader say Padme's name.  And then, when the Emperor said that in his rage Anakin had killed her you can see (even through the mask) the last vestige of Anakin Skywalker die and Darth Vader (the one we know and love/hate) is born.  It was quite cool.

Bernie - Sorry to use your thread for this discussion.

I would think that common sense would dictate that a thread that isn't on the 1st page, and has been inactive for [near] a month, should be considered an 'old thread'... subjective or not.

Just my two cents :)

However, if it requires clarification, so shall it be done.

The rules have been updated.

Now please, everybody, no more off-topic posts.

Again, apologies to Bernie.

Alias - It's bumping.  When you write the forum rules, you can determine what is and isn't bumping ;)

The last post before yours (from Blackthorne) was from April 25th.  Your post (today) was on May 19th.  That's a month (give or take a few days)

This thread is for the game, not for art tips and tutorials.  Check the critics lounge or send a PM for these types of questions.  Otherwise this thread gets cluttered with off-topic posts.

Please do NOT post in here again asking the same question(s) again.  Thanks.

Bernie - glad to know you're still moving forward!

If you plan to answer the questions please do so in a PM, thanks :)

Adventure Related Talk & Chat / Re: Loom
Thu 19/05/2005 21:02:35
We've had this conversation several times before.

However, since the search is down, I won't make a stink about it ;)
Edit - Actually the search doesn't appear to be down anymore.  Search for Loom and you'll get several hits to read through.

Personally Loom is one of my favorite games of all time.  It's right up there with Space Quest III and Full Throttle.

Totally involving story and world.

Great graphics (even the EGA version which I played first)

Great music.

Just a great game.

Do you use photoshop? Can you tell me how you shade your bg's so well? (pixel by pixel?)

Please review the FORUM RULES for this board.

A private message could have answered this question without bumping a thread from a month ago.
