Is there someway to get a HUGE score increase in ZooKeeper that I don't know about?

I lost on level 6, but I had 35,750 points.  (On level 5 I cleared away a huge block with one move which, after it condensed, cleared away about 20 more moves)

Might have gone a little overboard with this:

- shortened the torso
- altered the shading
- changed the stance

Might have changed it too much, but I hope it helped.

Quote from: Pumaman on Wed 27/04/2005 19:33:02So you mean I posted that sexy pic for nothing?   :'(

Oh believe me, it wasn't for nothing.  I'm sure (without doubt) that snagged you quit a few votes!

Perhaps I should have said, "I didn't base my vote (for sexiest AGSer) on just appearance. ;)

That 'type' of light source would look better, but not in that style :)  The rest of the image is very pixel-y and then you throw in that complex gradient it just sort of clashes (in my opinion).

I was thinking more along these lines when I first saw this pic: (quick paintover)

- darken'd the whole thing (it was WAY to bright for a sewer, even with an open hole in the roof)
- Corrected lighting on the walkway (it was reversed)
- shadowed the walkway onto the water a bit more
- added some more slime (seemed too clean to me, just personal preference)
- added some shading to the pipe (to make it appear to be coming out of the wall)

Anyway ... the lightsource I added was done rather quickly just to demonstrate.

I hope it helps.

Quote from: TerranRich on Wed 27/04/2005 06:35:55EDIT: Is it weird that I voted for Dragonrose for sexiest?

No.

I didn't base my vote (for sexiest AGSer) on appearance.  If that were the case the award should have been called "hottest" AGSer.

DISCLAIMER:
Just to clarify, from the few pix I've seen of her, I certainly don't think that Ms. Rose is lacking in the looks department.  I was just explaining how I voted.

I've always wanted to go to Celebrations, but never have :(

I'm not quite sure why they hold it in Indianopolis?

Anyway ... I found this article about an interesting announcement George made at the convention ...

Very interesting indeed.

And this year's award for, "Person most responsible for causing Darth to wile away countless hours" goes to .... KINOKO!!!  ;D

Every now and then I stumble across a game like this (or somebody shows me the way) and I spend HOURS just working after it.  I finally finished level 7 and lost on level 8 with about 13,000 points.  Sheesh ...

Quote from: Helm on Sun 24/04/2005 19:39:48gah not to violently dissagree, but let people think up of their own pace for a comic book! It's not a movie!
I don't think it would force people to read at a designated pace.  Rather it would just animate each frame in and you read as you will.

I was just thinking of making it more 'lively' than something printed on a piece of paper.  Doing a webcomic opens doors of possibilities that just aren't available on the printed page.  Motion/movement (not necessarily animation of the action) and sound would make quite an experience I think.  But hey, just my opinion ;)

Darth has ambition. You gotta give him that. I assume you've seen Broken Saints?
I had never seen Broken Saints before (thanks for the link).  My ambition is a desire to see a webcomic try something new and interesting ;)  I've been meaning to make my own webcomic for years ... I've just never had the time to devote :(

Squinky - I think it looks great and I'd read it either way (just to let you know)!!

Congrats Mr. C!  It was a well deserved win.  All the entries were worth playing, but your game was just one step ahead of the rest!  Excellent.

As for my 10 1 week bit ... I was attempting to make a joke.  Apparently it didn't work.

It seemed funny to me that so many entries were submitted for a competition that had FAR less time to complete!

Anyway ... congrats again to Mr. Colossal.

Radiohead's 'Creep' is one of my all-time favorite songs.

'Course a lot of you youngsters on here prolly never heard it before.

Evil - I don't think that's not a dub over.  The original version of the song said "you're so fuckin' special" but it was the early '90s and such a big deal was made over it that they released a 'safe' version where he said "you're so very special" instead.  So this acoustic version probably isn't a dub over, it's probably him being silly and making an issue out of a harmless word.

I peeked at the source code and just hard linked to the file.  Some sites block this, but this one doesn't.

I love the art-work ... even the lack of shading doesn't bother me that much (though I would recommend it).

What I would suggest is, since it's a 'web-comic', you should steer away from typical paper based comic strips.  Try something new and different.

For instance ...

Do it all in flash.  Each frame 'plays' out when you mouse over it.  So when you mouse over frame 1 the text box would fade in saying "I've found myself ..." etc.  Then the next text would fade in.  Maybe each frame could have it's own background sound.  So in the first frame again you could hear city sounds in the background.  Car horns, chatter, aircraft overhead, car stereos, etc. as the text comes into view.  Then, when the reader is done with that frame they mouseOver the next frame and so on and so on.  Or maybe when the first frame is done a little arrow appears to start the next frame. (something like that).

Really (I mean REALLY) quick and dirty example of what I mean:

Hope it helps!

I think it's off to a good start.

Some suggestions:

> You should preload the mouseOvers on the navigation system.  Right now (in FireFox) you have to wait a second for them to load.

> I would kill the scroll bar in the center like that.  It destroys the layout as is.  I would suggest either 1) making that frame only as tall as the navigation (and the other framed side) or 2) making the content free formed in the middle and letting the whole page scroll.  If you choose option 1 I would further suggest that you alter the scroll bar so it 'fits' better within the design.

> The punk rock banner up top kind of lessens the effectiveness of the site (in my opinion) because it looks more like a banner ad than a part of the site.  Build that into the black and I think it would look better.

> The logo blends into the background too much.  I would suggest making it 'pop' a little more.

> The "New Shit" feels unaligned to me.

I decided to just do a 'paint-over' to show what I mean:

Hope it helps!

Now that was cool ...

Usually when people post "neat flash animation" links it's some stupid thing with cats singing and dancing so people will say, "gosh, that guy must do a lot of drugs!" ... usually so trendy it makes me want to puke.

But this was quite lovely actually.

Are these actually 'in-game' shots?  Or are they photoshops of what the game will look like?

What's the status of the game?  You have no characters yet?  How far along are the backgrounds, the scripting, the puzzles, the music?

I updated your first post to actually show the screenies rather than just links to them.

The graphics look very nice.  The depth of field on the middle one makes it look ... miniature? ... but sweet looking none-the-less.

Generally I'm not a huge fan of dominating GUIs like that, but at 800x600 resolution it's okay 'cause there's still plenty of screen real estate left over.

I'm pleased to announce that A Friend Indeed - The Adventures of JP & Cosmo is now available in both German and Italian language editions.

Thanks to the translators for all their hard work.  Especially my man Nico who went WAY above and beyond, you have my total gratitude!!

The German Version isn't as complete as the Italian version.  Only the game's text was altered, but the Italian translation is complete including almost ALL in-game graphics (even the GUIs!).

Visit the official website [ A Friend Indeed ] for information and downloads, or:

> Italian Version
> German Version

Of course for any English speakers who have never played the game, the English Version is also available on the site!  I'd love you to try it out!

Thanks for your time!

Well ... rather than starting my own thread I guess this is as good a time as any to make my own shocking announcement ...

PHEW!! .... what a relief that was.

But seriously my swingin' pal of AGS origin, I hope the 'truth' has set you free.

The people of this community (with a few exceptions) are very open minded ... so if you can't find acceptance in that pesky real world just do what we do and spend WAY too much time in here!  Nobody here cares about your sexual orientation (in a bad way I mean) so announcing it doesn't really make a big splash.

Now had you said you like to ritualistically torture small kittens well ...
