Creating a custom inventory GUI can be a little daunting ... I had some major problems with it when working on my first game.

Here is a thread I started for just this very question: Custom Inventory GUI
(it's in the Tech Archives - a great resource in there for future reference!)

As for the Save/Load GUI, your best bet (the way I learn the fastest) is to search the forums, find somebody else's code, and pick it apart.  Then it'll be much easier to make your own.

Use the forum's search function (in the top bar up there!) It's indespensible!

Good luck!

I love the image!

Did Andail make the alterations (from what we saw weeks ago in the CL)?  Either way it looks fantastic!

I know this isn't the CL but the one thing that still bothers me (and Scummy!! ;)) is the branch covering the "R" in Rest (on the sign).  I think the branch should extend the other way (or further out) leaving the "R" move visible.  I still read it as "Hermit's Pest" :)

Excellent work though!

This game has been, and remains, in my top 3 most anticipated games!  Keep it up!

I really like the look of this.

The 'cut scene' screenshot reminds me of the first two Wing Commander games (which is a very good thing) and the 'in game' shots look great as well.

How are you handling the 'traveling' animation?

From the Forum Rules:

DO NOT dig up old threads!!
If you're interested in an old thread about a project don't post asking about the progress.  Send a PM to the game's author.  If the project has been cancelled and/or abandoned there's no point in bumping the thread!

I swear to God the ability to read and follow rules is being extinguished from the human race ...

That was pretty funny.

Was that Worf (Michael Dorn)?

This isn't the right place :)  Not if you've posted in the 'Completed Games' section for this same game!

Have you looked in the help file?

Have you searched the forums?

Have you read the BFAQ?

You really should be posting all these images in the same thread rather than starting a new thread for each.

The image lacks a lot of detail, but certainly isn't horrible.

The sand should have some texture to it.  Doesn't really look like sand.

The shadows are pretty good.

If you're referring to the anti-aliasing it does on resize do this:

Photoshop CS:

Edit > Preferences > General > Image Interpolation and select "Nearest Neighbor"

(Preferences might be located in a different spot in different versions of Photoshop)

WARNING: resizing this way leads to some interesting results.

I just think we should preserve this forum from certain racist symbols.

Is it because the English-speaking members of this forum don't recognise the word that some don't care?

For me, words like "Nigger" has a huge symbolic power. I won't wet my pants, but I'm rather sure it'll have some sort of effect.

Anyhow, I'm a bit tired of debates atm, so someone else can make the call.
I wasn't aiming at you :)  I completely understand how that word offends some.  And I totally agree that I don't want to see it on these forums either.

It's a stupid word that nobody should use, even black people.

Darth's opinion on the holy EN-word
If people would stop getting offended over a stupid and insignificant word, it would lose it's power.

What if colect12 is black?  Remember, black folk are 'allowed' to use the word ...

colect12, if you're black, stay strong brother and don't change the title.

If you're not black you racist pig change the title before people start wettin' their pants!!

Good ol' Photoshop.

I just created 3 seperate shadow layers at different opacity levels and started throwing black in there.

This was a problem for me when working on my first game as well!

I started This Thread which has a lot of useful information in it.  You might want to take a look at it.

Davy these are great!

The simplicity of RON games has always been very appealing to me, and you've captured that very well here.

I'll admit it's not too spooky though.  I'm thinking it's the lighting over-all.  It's too bright maybe.

I went a little over-baord with the shading here, but you'll see what I mean:

- added some detail to the roof of the left room as well

Please, forgive the jay-peggy-ness of it.  Hope it helps!

The ball physics should be quite possible ... do any of you remember that Mini-Golf game Steve was working on?  It had great physics so yeah, it should be quite possible.

I have thought about tying in the high-scores of my game with an online server.  But I just figured I'd have the game produce a meaninless file which they could upload to the server, which would then translate it and pull the meaning out of it.

Does that make ANY sense ...

Thought I'd give it a stab ...

It was tough 'cause I wasn't really sure what kind of animal this was!

Anyway ... hope it was helpful!

verywierdguy - I find it funny that you have that opinion on the Original trilogy given that you weren't born until almost a decade after Return of the Jedi was released ;)

It would be like me saying, "I don't understand why so many people liked the '69 Camaro ... it's not that great" (even though I adore the car).

Star Wars was magical to many people.  Hollywood, in the late 70's, was a different place than it is now.  Star Wars basically opened the doors for 'blockbuster' movies.  Granted, I was a baby when Star Wars was released, but I remember when Empire came out and all the hooplah around it.  I vividly remember standing in line all the way around the corner waiting to get in to see Jedi on opening day.

Maybe you just had to be there ...

I've learned that just because something doesn't mean anything to me, doesn't mean it shouldn't mean something to others.  The original trilogy is still on the top of my 'all time favorite movies' list and I don't see that changing anytime soon.

Episode I and II were fun to watch.  Sure, they might not have the same magic that I felt as a child watching the original, but that's okay.

And when people say, "The first two movies suck ... there's so many plot holes and inconsistencies" it makes me want to puke.

It's like reading 2/3 of the way through a novel and then stopping and saying "This novel sucks ... there's too many loose ends"

The story isn't complete ... that's why it's a trilogy.  I have no doubt that episode III will tie all the loose ends together making 1-3 a complete trilogy and making the 'saga' complete as well.

I didn't really mind the sleeve thing ...

I agree with Mr. C about the shoulders:

- lowered the shoulders
- thinned the neck
- added a little cleavage ('cause hey ... I like cleavage!)
- brought the head down
- fixed the legs/crotch area
- put the one arm behind to create a more relaxed stance

I dig the characters!  With a little more time and polishing they'll be fully functional!

Hope it helps!

See if the hardware has a button on it called 'Folder' ...

I've had an experience with an mp3/CD player before that wouldn't play mp3 directly unless you hit the folder button.  The first option for folder was /root and then it would seek through the rest of the folders.

Not that you wouldn't have tried that already ... but I figured I'd ask!

I liked Andie McDowell in Hudson Hawk.

Speaking of Hudson Hawk ... what a great adventure game that would make as well!
