Been a long time since I posted some help in the CL ...

- added some division details to the floor
- moved the pole closer to the top seats
- added foreground poles to add depth

I would suggest adding some shadows.  The shading is good, but there are no shadows.  That would really help the image I think.

Look forward to it, and BTW, Escape from New York is FAR superior to its naff sequel.
Escape from L.A. was so bad it made me sick.  The basketball scene was possibly the worst piece of film I've ever subjected myself to.

If it wasn't for Stallone: Cobra and a little gem called State Property it's quite possible that Escaped from LA would be the worst movie ever made.

DISCLAIMER: This is, of course, just my opinion.

Alkis - On one hand I can understand how you feel.

On the other hand, what does it really matter?

For me; I was excited about seeing if my game got nominated for anything.  To be completely honest I didn't expect it would be (I certainly didn't nominate myself).  So it was just a pleasant surprise to see it listed.

Sure it felt good, but if it had been nominated for nothing I wouldn't have been upset or offended.

concerning demos ...

Perhaps we should have a section on the AGS webpage (under games) for "Demos".  So the as-of-yet unreleased games with demos out can easily be reviewed for nomination.  This would save a LOT of time rather than parsing through the GiP looking for demos.

Maybe a category for 'Most Promising Demo' or 'Most Anticipated Game Demo' ... something like that.

concerning committee nominations ...

I don't really like the idea of all the award nominations being decided by committee.  I like the fact that all AGSers can nominate the game(s) they really enjoyed and that the awards are decided by the community, not a committee.

Maybe just certain categories should be nominated by a committee.  Like 'Best Scripting' could be nominated by some of the gods of the tech forums who really have a grasp of the scripting being used.  But then awards like 'Best Game' should be, for lack of a better phrase, "Viewers Choice" and would be nominated by the community.

I like 'feeling involved' in the nomination process.  Makes me feel important ;)

Hey Raven!  Good to see you posting here again!

I've always liked your sprites.  Maybe that's because (like InCreator mentioned) they are similar to my own ;)

The only crit that I would give is what I'm always given with my sprites is that the pose is too rigid.  But, if you're like me, the in-game stuff isn't so rigid.  I just conceptualize them that way.

To me, the newer ones, don't look too dark (the first one was a tad on the dark side).  You use black outlines, which I avoid, but it definitely gives it your own style.

Keep up the good work!

I think the texture on the bush/shrubs is a nice texture, it's just that the model is too smooth.  Try adding some polys to it and a noise filter to add some 'randomness' to it's shape.  That might help.

Also, the shadow under the window makes the window appear apart from the wall.  It feels very separate to me.  Might want to figure out why it's doing that (or move the window back if that's why!)

Other than that (and what the others have said) I think it's a great start.

I would say only take the job if you desperately need it.

Seriously, you hate telemarketers and you hate commission based jobs.  You'd be miserable!

Analogy
I used to be a waiter at Red Lobster (for the seafood lover in you) and towards the end of my days there I hated the job.  I was miserable.  As a result my tips (commission) suffered greatly.  So then I was stuck in a job I hated, making little money.  What was the point?  It's why I quit (read: got canned)

I equate spammers (the scum of the cyber-world) as the internet equivalent of telemarketers.  I know for a fact I could make insane ammounts of money if I started spamming.  With my know-how I could make a fortune doing it.  However, I would rather be flat-ass broke living in the gutter than become a spammer.

Seriously ... there are always jobs available if you look.  Find something else you'll only marginally hate, and in the end you'll be happier :)

Sara gets so mad at me 'cause I just ignore the house phone when it rings.  I know anybody that wants to talk to me is going to call my cellphone, not the housephone.  So I just ignore it.  She still has the 'reflex' to answer it just 'cause it's ringing.

Like RickJ said, if it's important, they'll call back.  If the phone rings, and then stops, and then rings again I'll check the caller ID at that point.

As far as being rude to telemarketers ... here's my take.  If you DO answer a telemarket call and it's a person right way (not a recording) you should say, "I'm not interested, thanks" and hang up.  Quick and polite.  However, if a telemarketing company has the NERVE to make you wait through a recording to talk to somebody??  Forget about it, they get what they deserve after that.  Not only do you have to be bothered with the call, now they want you to wait on them?? No frickin' way.

As far as I'm concerened; telemarketers and SPAMMERS are the same thing.  It should be made illegal.  Nobody wants it yet we ALL have to put up with it?  Rediculous.

I solved this problem a few years ago ...

I completely quit using a land-line telephone.  I only use my cellphone as my primary telephone.  I have only 1 time in about 6 years gotten a telemarketer call.  I played interested and got her name, and her company's name, and then I said, "Okay here's the deal ... I don't know how you got this number but I want you to erase it from whatever list you got it from and you better hope I don't start getting more calls like this."  That was 4 years ago ... haven't had one since.

We do have a land-line telephone here.  We need it for the internet (DSL) connection.  It gets about 4-5 calls a day from telemarkers.  But we have a phone that has Caller ID on it ... so I can see who it is.  If it says "Private Call" or "Unknown Number" I just don't answer it.

Though sometimes it can be fun.  My favorite thing to do is when you get that, "Please hold, we have an important message for you" call.  Here's what I do ...

When I get that message I patiently wait.  Then, "Hello?" they say,
"Yes?" I reply.
"How are you today sir?"
"I'm fine ... hang on one second, I really want to hear what you have to say ..."
Then I put the phone down and continue to have a conversation with whoever is in the room.  Preferably a perverted conversation.  And we just keep talking, blatently ignoring the phone, and keep talking and keep talking.

One time I had a telemarker stay on the line for over a half hour!!

Is that a Quiditch Pitch? :)

I think it looks pretty darn good ... I think with some shadows it'll look marvelous!

The only thing I noticed that bugged me a little were the windows on the yellow building.  The largest side facing.  They appear, to me, to be jagged a little.   Parts going up and down that shouldn't.

And the blue building on the top needs a little more details; windows, doors, etc.

Aside from those things, a great start to a map screen!

Let me be the first to say ...

YESSSS!!!

Glad to know you're still working on it!  The new system sounds quite nice!

Keep on keepin' on man!

Good lord I think people are playing jokes on me ...

TomPel - Read the FORUM RULES and then update your post.  I'm not going to lock this because you have (at least) included some screenshots, but you need to post some information about the game.

I have updated your first post to show the pictures, rather than just linking to them.

Loominous' entry is simply magnificent ...

However I'm voting for lo_res_man.  When I saw that I was 12 years old again playing Space Quest on our old IBM 8088 and had somehow found my way into that room ...

It was a nice moment, and I thank you for it.

I laugh all the time ...

FORUM RULES - READ BEFORE POSTING stickied at the top of the GiP forum and still, on a frequent basis, people start threads like this:

SUBJECT: My new AGS game!!
I'm making a game.  You play as a guy who finds himself in an adventure.  I don't have a title, or any screenshots yet.  Oh and the game will be awesome!

Ahhhh good stuff.  Cracks me up all the time.  It's a good thing I still enjoy locking threads so much ;)

I have a great idea, let's dig up a thread that hasn't been posted in for almost five months.

I don't suppose anybody reads anymore ...

GarageGothic - if you're still working on this let me know and I'll unlock the thread.

Grim Ripper - read the FORUM RULES before posting.  I know they're hard to find, so deeply hidden right at the top of the board in bold print in all caps saying "FORUM RULES - READ BEFORE POSTING".

Tell him you have an evil Sith Lord webmaster friend who could, with little effort, hack into his website and notify ALL potential customers of his 'wayward business practices' ...

That'll get his attention ;)

But seriously ... that sucks big time man.  I had an issue like this with a rebate company (started a post just like this one to vent my frustrations)  It's amazing some of the half-assed people that live in this world.  I too got stuck with somebody who barely spoke English and I could hardly understand ...

I made the decision to just let it go ... I gave up on the rebate.  In your case, I wouldn't give up.  I would call them and demand they send you a DIFFERENT and WORKING mobo back, FREE shipping.

Just tell them you've looked him up on the BBB and you know his story and just suggest that it would be in his best interest to provide you with 110% satisfaction from here on in.

** Sigh **

Perhaps you didn't notice the inconspicuously titled thread: FORUM RULES - READ BEFORE POSTING?

I know it's well hidden, right at the top in Bold Print ...

I really wanted to go last year ... but time/money didn't permit.

The only thing that would keep me from going this year will be the financing of it.  Because I've always wanted to visit Australia!

If it were later in the year ... like July/August I'd have a better chance (we just spent a fortune on a cruise next month!)

But yes, I'm DEFINITELY interesting in going!  I owe DG a beer :)

That new trailer rocks so hard!

When I read the book that's just how I pictured it ... perfect!  Now I can't wait to see it!

And Arthur Dent is played by the body double guy in "Love Actually" who was my favorite character in the movie!  And Sam Rockwell plays Zaphod  ... just perfect.  I loved him as Guy Fleegman in 'Galaxy Quest'.

Can't wait for this one ... I've been trying to get Sara (girlfriend) to read it lately, but she just never gets around to it.
