General Discussion / Re: Photoshop Problem ...
Fri 21/01/2005 01:03:06
@ LGM:
I doubt it's a graphics card issue, as everything else seems to be okay.  Thanks though.

@ Evil
Think harder :)Ã,  It's been doing this for awhile now, and I've just been ignoring it.Ã,  (I've restarted several times since the problem arose)

The thing is this, I use so many hotkeys in photoshop (I barely touch the mouse it seems sometimes) that I'm sure I just hit a wrong combination of keys one time that caused this.

Logic should dictate that if it can be done, it can be undone!

Have you (accidently) pressed the 'F' key a few times? it gives a black backdrop in of the view modes... other than that I have no idea...
That was my first thought on where to search; 'screen mode', but I'm in standard when this happens, not Fullscreen.

Edit -> Preferences -> Transparency & Gamut?
Yeah, I tried that too ... no love.

Thanks for the guesses so far!

Anybody else?

This is a pretty dumb question.Ã,  One which I'm a little upset I can't solve on my own actually.

In photoshop, if I create an image, and then I expand the image to full screen (or just pull the bottom corner out a little) the area surrounding the image has gone black.Ã,  It used to be gray.Ã,  Now it's black.

I want it to go back to being gray.

I've scoured the help file and the Adobe knowledge base, but I can't find anything.Ã,  Mostly 'cause I don't really know what to search for.

Anybody know how to change the background color of the workspace?

- I run a dual monitor system and I've tried changing the background color of them in Windows (thinking that might effect the color in PS) and that didn't effect it.

I 'preciate any advice/help :)

I agree with DG ... in the end, it's your choice.

However, if it were me, I'd kick the chick to the curb.

Sounds to me like she's using your feelings for her to get what she wants, regardless of the consequences to you.

That's just wrong.

Boot her ... sure it'll hurt like hell at first, but it'll pass.Ã,  It's better than draggin' on months and months of misery and anguish.

Now, if you're a sadist who derives pleasure from anguish and suffering, then by all means let her continue to think she's using you.Ã,  Sounds to me like it would be a mutually beneficial relationship it that case.

I doubt that you'd be 'venting' on the AGS forums if it wasn't bothering you though.

This is nice stuff!

My brother makes levels for games like Max Payne and Half Life ... he made some kick ass levels for Counter Strike a few years ago.  He is (or wants to) experiment with making HL2 levels and I told him he should make the levels and render them out and use them in an adventure game!

Good to see somebody else has the same idea!

The long street scene ... the 'Market & Deli' building looks oddly blurred compared to the rest of the detail level ...

As for the rest ... I really like the style.  The touch ups are what sell the deal for me.

Keep it up!

I love it even more now!

The smudgy-ness is still there in some spots, but the new elements lessen it considerably!

I might suggest removing the 'pointy sand thing' that extends up into the road ... it just looks out of place!

TheÃ,  shadow of the solar-mill is brilliant!

HURRY up with this game already!Ã,  I check your website on a regular basis you know :)

It's doesn't make them gay ... it makes them irresistably horny.Ã,  I think there's a difference here that the media is expoliting a wee-bit.Ã,  That's typical media for you I guess.

Personally, I think it's stupid ... the goal of the bomb is to what?Ã,  Weaken morale?Ã,  Lower their will to fight?Ã,  Why?Ã,  So they're easier to kill?

Fuck that, just drop a MOAB on them in the first place and save them humiliation of making out with their comrades ...

Can you imagine?Ã,  The US gets trashed for making some prisoners get naked and pile them up?Ã,  Now we're going to make them have sex with each other too?

Brilliant ... just bloody brilliant.

I'm soooo sick of these types of flash movies ...

"I have a great idea ... I'll take a bunch of random images and arrange them to some funny and completely unrelated song!"

How mind boggelingly original.

"Maybe people will think I was on drugs when I made it?!?"

Because taking drugs and doing fucked up things is so cool!

I will say one thing about the near extinction of originality these days ... when something truely original comes along I get a happy feeling inside!

Like the next great movie about Basketball ... I 'dribble' with anticipation!!

Quote from: anymFor 1¢/song, I think even horrible pop music trying to appeal to the lowest common denominator in muscial taste would be hard pressed to make a living for the artist and it would become nigh on impossible for any music diverging from the mainstream. Of course, if the artists sold the music themselves online circumventing the record industry and without actual CDs the prices could be even lower than 1â,¬, but 1¢ seems illusory.
I'm sorry ... I mistyped ... I meant to say 1 meg for a penny!

If you visit www.allofmp3.com this is what they do (though they do have a 'special' version of encoding which is $.02 per meg!)Ã,  It's a Russian based website and I would gladly pay their prices.Ã,  The only trouble is they quit accepting paypal and I just don't feel comfortable (yet) giving them my credit card number.Ã,  Maybe after they've been around just a little bit longer.

That is how I think it should be handled.Ã,  I truely believe if the all the record labels made all their material (past and present) available as mp3, ogg, etc.Ã,  And there were a few different competing websites which housed the ENTIRE collections of ALL lables, and it was run like allofmp3.com they'd make far more money than they are now.

Less distribution costs, less packaging costs, less production costs AND because they're selling them for so much cheaper, they'd sell far more of them.

I've said this before and I'll say it again ... If the record labels don't get on board with this mp3 thing ... they're going to be like the train industry of 100 years ago who had this mentality, "Nobody is going to want to own a car!!Ã,  They're always going to buy train tickets!!"Ã,  If they would have said, "Automobiles are the wave of the future, and we need to get in on it!" we'd now be driving Santa Fe Explorers and Union Pacific Corvettes instead of Ford and Cheverolet.

Personally?Ã,  I say good riddance ... they've irritated me so badly I don't ever want to give them another penny and would like to see them all bankrupt and out of business.

On another note:
I would like to personally apologize to DG for my degenerating this topic into my gripe about mp3!Ã,  I do apologize.Ã,  I tend to get heated when discussing mp3 ... don't ever ask me about my feelings on car insurance!!

I got Half-Life 2 for Christmas this year (I have already conquered it and felt it was too short, though it was lots of fun!).Ã,  I don't really like this Steam thing ... it's irritating.Ã,  I understand the 'why' of it ... but I just don't like it.

When I buy software (or receive it as a gift) I want to be able to click the icon and start playing.

I don't want to have to make sure that Steam is activated and connected to the internet, the original CD is in the drive, wait for updates to be downloaded and installed, and make sure that the moon is aligned with Mars and the 40th vibration of the 6th dimension is in quantum flux.

It's rediculous ... I paid for the software I should be able to click an icon and DONE!

WindowsXP
I have 2 copies of Windows XP which I have registered ... and every time I have to reinstall Windows XP I use a crack/hack version so I don't have to go through that pain!

iTunes/Napster
They still charge too much for the music.Ã,  One of the reasons people were downloading mp3, instead of buying CDs, was because of the cost of CDS.Ã,  So now these geniuses finally start selling mp3 and they charge ~$1/song.Ã,  So if you want a full album, you pay about the same price as at the store, but you get no case/jacket.

I still download ALL my mp3 for free and will continue to do so until you can get mp3 for about 1 song for a penny.Ã,  That's about what they SHOULD be charging.Ã,  I will gladly pay for my music when they stop ripping us off.

DRM
I think it's a waste of time ... I mean, I look at it this way.Ã,  Any given industry can dedicate a section of their staff to 'protecting their merchandise' be it DVD, video game, or CD.Ã,  This extra research into the problem of copy protection costs that industry money ... so what happens?Ã,  The price might of their product(s) goes up a bit.

The reason this is a waste of time is because, realistically, how many people can these industries have working on the problem?Ã,  100?Ã,  1000?Ã,  There are MILLIONS of computer saavy folk out there that will create a work around/hack to your new copy protection within 10 minutes of the release of the product.Ã,  So you've just spent lots of money on a copy protection that is now useless.

I'll focus on the software companies:

IfÃ,  they'd just release the software (free of protection) for $5 a pop from their website (instead of a rediculous $60 in a store) they'd sell 100 times as many.Ã,  They wouldn't have wasted time/money on useless copy protection and now, because the price is so low, they'd sell infinitely more of them.

I don't care who it is that tries to convince me that they HAVE to charge that much money (in stores) I'll NEVER accept it.Ã,  There's MAYBE $3-$4 worth of material in that box ... marketing for each product simply can't be $50 plus.Ã,  I understand about making a profit and paying your employees and all that ... but still.

Software companies devoting [wasting] all this time/money on copy protection is like the CD companies fighting against mp3.Ã,  They're out numbered something like 500,000 to 1 ... might be time to rethink your strategy here guys!

What if the truck could fly/hover? ;)

I think you should get rid of the smudgy effect all together!

The mixture of vector-ish graphics (from PSP) and the smudgy/blurry areas bugs me a little.

I LOVE the way the objects and background look ... it's just the ground in the foreground that bugs me!

Have you tried creating it using the same methods as the other non-smudged items?  I think that would look incredible!

Just my opinion ... I still love your style!

General Discussion / Re: They've given up...

I think getting rid of Saddam Hussein needed to be done (it should have been done in '91) but I disapprove of Bush making up a reason.Ã,  The worst part of this whole thing was that, after he found out it was faulty intelligence, he still refused to admit the mistake.Ã,  That's what really bothered me.

You're the president sir, you're the boss, the shift-manager of the U.S.A.Ã,  If something goes wrong while you're on the clock it's your fault ... whether you like it or not!

I still respect the office of the president of the United States ... but I no longer respect the man sitting in that office.

Should we fight a 'war on terror'?Ã,  Yes, I believe we should.Ã,  But I believe the doctrine of this war should be "take out existing terrorist threats, and prevent the creation of new terrorist threats".

Ol' GW is so gung-ho to take the war to the terrorists that his methods are accomplishing nothing.Ã,  Sure ... you took out 50 terrorists with that bomb, but you also killed 10 civilians and now you've just created 100 more terrorists as a result.Ã,  You'll never win this ... it's as pointless as the war on drugs being waged in the US.

Some argue that we (the US) only send our military to places that have oil involved. Ã, That we only fight the battles where the outcome is beneficial to us ... To this I reply that we don't have the military power to right all the world's wrongs. Ã, Yes what's been happening in the Sudan is terrible, what's been happening in the former Soviet Union is horrible, and yes what was happening to the people of Iraq is/was horrible. Ã, So which fight do we make? Ã, Well ... Iraq is where the U.S. will benefit most, so we'll go there. Ã, Is this wrong? Ã, Who can say. Ã, I don't make U.S. foreign policy.

In a couple hundred years, what's left of mankind, will look back on this 'Oil Age' as the biggest mistake mankind ever made. Ã, I mean ... if you think about it, we're sending hundreds and thousands of young boys to their deaths, and killing hundreds of thousands of 'enemies', to secure a substance that is rapidly destroying our planet. Ã, How stupid is this?

We have the technology to stop this from happening ... but as is so often the case throughout history it'll take extreme necessity to effect the change. Ã, Meaning, we'll be forced to make the change rather than realize we need to and do it because we choose to. Ã, But that's not what this discussion is about ...

I still feel that getting rid of Hessein and his regime needed to be done ... but somebody should inform Mr. Bush that not all terrorists are arabs/muslims! Ã, There are other places we should be focusing on in my opinion.

I have Pinnacle Studio v9 Deluxe ...

While I find it not as full featured as I'd like, it does add titles easily and they work great!Ã,  I've made a few DVDs with it already; creating titles, credits, etc.Ã,  and they all turned out really well.

I just got my hands on the newest Adobe Suite w/ Premiere, After Effects, Audition, and EncoreDVD and they're supposed to be miles ahead of Pinnacle ... I wonder what was going on with the titles?  Are you using an older version of Premiere?

From the animation I get the impression that he jumps out, surveys the area, spots somebody he knows and quickly raises the gun up before putting it away.

Maybe his boss, Lt. Franklin is in the ally ...

After he holsters the gun and adjusts his hat, the Lt. walks over and they exchange dialog.  Then the Lt. suddenly spots something and shoves you out of the way just as the ally echos with the sound of a gunshot.  A bullet tears into the Lt.'s chest throwing him back onto the stairway.  An archway of blood follows him to the ground.  You quick draw your gun again as you dive for cover ...

Not too comical I hope ;)
