My middle name is Edward ...

My maternal grandfather's name was Edward Russell Hacker (not kidding about the last name) and everybody called him Russell.Ã,  One of his sons (my uncle) is named Russell Edward Hacker and everybody calls him Ted.Ã,  So I'm named after them ... I guess?

If you find that confusing get this ...

My mother's brother married my dad's sister.Ã,  Sounds illegal doesn't it?

Please post the screenshots inside the thread, rather than an external link.

Is the actual game character going to be that large head with no body?Ã,  Or are you just not far enough in production to have a character sprite yet?

A game about Mike Tyson where he doesn't box ... I don't know.

Seems kind of off to me.Ã,  Might make more sense if he's on a quest to find his old title belt or something like that.Ã,  I just don't see Iron Mike having a hard time finding something to eat.

Are all old washed up boxers on similar quests?Ã,  Or will Mike just be traveling really far looking for food (thus he runs in to all those other boxers).

Also, if the Mission belongs to Mike, it should be Mike's Mission, just FYI.

I'm actually kind of surprised at what some of you have picked but they are, of course, your opinions!

These are just a few of my favorites.

Daniel Day Lewis as Hawkeye - The Last of the Mohicans
Alfred Molina as Rahad Jackson - Boogie Nights
Sean Astin as Samwise Gamgee - The Lord of the Rings (he captured that character so perfectly in my opinion)
Brad Pitt as Tristan Ludlow - Legends of the Fall (props to Damien for mentioning this as well)
Edward Norton as Derek Vinyard - American History X
Denzel Washington as Private Trip - Glory
Robin Williams as Sean Maguire - Good Will Hunting
Gary Oldman as Drexl Spivey- True Romance and as Lee Harvey Oswald - JFK

I will just say that some of you have picked actors that are high-up on my 'actors that need to be shot list' ...

No, this is the right place for this post (this thread would be lockity-locked in the GiP board).

budsmoka - somebody made a game about lost weed before.Ã,  Not that it should discourage you.

Good stuff man!

I, too, have booked it!

I hope you're getting back into AGS stuff now :)

I thought I'd try something different (from me) this time around ... meaning it won't be a character, but rather an object.

I was watching the Flintstones the other day and I like how they take things we use today, but make them from stone age stuff.Ã,  Like an elephant's trunk is the water faucet, or the creature under the sink is the disposal, etc.

Topic: Modern technology in the past

Take an existing piece of technology; cellphone, computer, automobile, television, etc. and create what it would look like if it had been invented 200 years (or more) ago.

Parameters: no bigger than 50x50
Colors: no more than 256

Animation is not required, but will work in your favore during the judging!

Keep in mind the technology doesn't have to work the way it does today ... the sprite just must represent something of modern technology.Ã,  The more imagination the better!

Good luck spriters!

Quote from: Haddas on Thu 06/01/2005 19:45:35DM, what did you use to draw those buildings? Did you do it by hand?

I used the photoshop brush tool set to Dissolve with a 1% flow.  Then just spattered different colors around to create the lights.  Then I did a slight blur on them and used a layer mask to blend the top into the lit area of the planet.

It might look even better if, instead of the 'blur' filter to use the motion blur instead going vertically.  I was going to try it until I realized I didn't save the PSD!

Just a thought!

Great stuff!!

I was just thinking about this graphics (the title one) the other day wondering if you were still working on it!

The new stuff is fantastic!  I've said it before (now I'll say it again) I can't wait till you 'improve' :)

Do you do all that dithering/patterning by hand?  (IE pixel by pixel)

I think the buildings are just too large ... they look great, but they're too big.Ã,  From out in space, even something kilometers high wouldn't appear that big.Ã,  (as I've never been in space over a planet with kilometer tall buildings I'm only guessing)

Personally, I'd recommend doing something more like this:

It was done really quickly, but I hope you see what I mean!

Who are you?

Just kidding!  I've been following your most recent work over at DeviantArt.

These pixels are great!  I like the animated one the best.  The facial expression you've achieved in such a small area is great!

The red eyes on the goblin are a little bright and tend to run together in the non-zoomed version (at least on my screen - or it could be my eyes!)

Good to see you delving back into Pixel art and good luck with the potential job!

I think after the first two months you'll settle into the routine and it won't be so bad.Ã,  You'll figure out how to manage your time and don't be surprised if you find time for us AGSers here!

I truely believe that, later in life, it's an experience you'll (most likely) be glad you had.Ã,  Life is just a serious of experiences.Ã,  You might as well enjoy them if you're able!

Now, having said that, I must say this: I know very little of the army in Finland.Ã,  But hey, if they let you blow shit up and can't be all that bad!

Safe journey Pete!

Like Babar, for me, the uniformity of color on the houses/buildings makes it all run together. Ã, It's difficult to distinguish the buildings. Ã, I think there's an oportunity for an INCREDIBLY detailed bg here!

Here is a small sample of what I was thinking ...

On the blue house on the left; I did some detailing/shading to demonstrate how I envision it.
- added rivets/bolts
- added panelling
- added hi and low lights

Some concerns I have looking at the image:

- Given the size of the doors the drop-off in the middle looks to be about 40-50 feet and there doesn't appear to be a 'railing' of any kind. Ã, Unless the blue areas are force fields or something like that?

- The open areas by the drop-offs (look bottom of my image above). Ã, I think what would look neat is if those were living quarters down there. Ã, You could add in some apartment doors, windows, elevators to the different levels.

- Down in the bottom (all gray now) you could add basketball and/or tennis courts, a swimming pool, more shops, etc.

I'm sure you weren't planning on leaving it empty! Ã, I just wanted to drop my opinion in there!

Hope it helps!

I'm approaching my 29th birthday (next month) ... I feel your age ... err ... I mean pain ;)

When I was 24-26 I started dreading the aging process.Ã,  I felt like 30 was ancient and that I would lose my body and my health and be an old man.Ã,  Now I'm actually looking forward to it.

Bring on the gray hair too ... then I'll look distinguished!

Happy Birthday young man!!

General Discussion / Re: Rebate Centers ...

Yes, exactly.

You have to send them the store receipt (or a copy of it) and the UPC code (or a copy of it) and then 8-10 weeks later (on average) you get a check in the mail.

The offer was for the Samsung SyncMaster 712N for $389.00 (USD) which, in and of itself was a great price!
It had a $50 (mail-in) Office Depot rebate and a $50 (mail-in) rebate from www.wheresmyrebate.com.

So, after rebates, each monitor would be $289 USD.

Here's the same monitor (basically, only mine are black) normally from OfficeDepot.com and it's $469 (with no rebates)

So, now, after the rebates I have received it ended up costing me $630 total, instead of $580.Ã,  Like I said, the money isn't the issue.Ã,  It's the fact that they told me one thing, and then didn't come through.

I disagree.

Sometimes if the choice is between two products, both equally good, but one has a rebate, you take the one with the rebate.Ã,  Easy choice then.Ã,  I wasn't buying it for the rebate, I was buying it because of the rebate.Ã,  And I'm not complaining about the rebate, I'm complaining about the way I was treated.

Anyway, it's not really an issue of the 50 dollars ... It's the principle behind it.

If somebody tells me they're going to do something for me, I expect it to be done.

What I don't expect (or accept) is some twit on a phone calling me a liar and hanging up on me.

Also, I wasn't notified (in ANY way) that the rebate had been rejected.Ã,  They didn't send me anything to notify me, even though they have my eMail address and my home address.

I'm going to keep calling them every day until they're so sick of me they send me the fifty dollars to leave them alone.

I did it for a few years back in my early 20's ... it was fun for awhile, but then it just gets old.

Eventually you need more than just 1 night stands.

General Discussion / Rebate Centers ...
Wed 05/01/2005 18:05:56
Okay ...

About 2 months ago I bought two new 17" Samsung LCD monitors (SyncMaster 712n) and set up a dual-monitor system.Ã,  I got them because I found them on special through Office Depot (an office supply chain of stores in the US) with 2 $50 rebates on them.Ã,  So a total of 100 dollars off of each.

The first rebate was through Office Depot itself, and the second one was through www.wheresmyrebate.com

Before making the purchase I specifically called both places and made sure that it was okay to receive two rebates from each place.Ã,  I was told this wouldn't be a problem.Ã,  The fine print said, "One rebate per item" not "One rebate per household" or anything like that.Ã,  The problem was I didn't log the calls ... no record on my part of who I spoke with.

Well I received notice from www.wheresmyrebate.com saying that one of my rebates was sent so I went to their website to track the other to find out why it wasn't sent ... (I sent both rebate forms in the same envelope)

After near 40 minutes on hold some woman answers the phone (who hardly can communicate in English) and proceeds to tell me that there was a limit "one per household".Ã,  I then explained to her that I had called and was specifically told it was allowed and that if it hadn't been allowed I would have had the second rebate mailed to a different location.

She wouldn't back down and kept repeating the same thing over and over so I said, "put me through to a manager or supervisor"Ã,  She wouldn't ... she said they'd just tell me the same thing so I said, "That's nice, put me through"

She still wouldn't and said that if I could tell her the name of the person who told me it was okay to send 2 rebates they could go ahead with it.Ã,  I said, "fine ... her name was Diana" to which she instantly replied "there's nobody here named Diana"

So I snapped back, "okay ... her name was Phyllis."

She then said, "Okay, you're making up names, you're lying.Ã,  Have a nice day"

I said, "Don't you hang up on me!Ã,  I was on hold for forty minutes and you're NOT hanging up on me"

"Well sir, you're lying, have a nice day."

"Don't you fucking hang up!"

"Now you've used the F word" click.

That bitch hung up on me after calling me a liar!

Have any of you dealt with www.wheresmyrebate.com before?Ã,  I went to the website (after this little call) and took screen caps of the rebate pages in case they try to delete the rebate and say it never existed or something like that.

I called Office Depot, which has already sent 1 of the $50 rebates (which I thought was odd as both forms were in the same envelope) and was told it was an error on their part and they were sending the other one out immediately!

Now ... regardless if I misread the fine print of the wheresmyrebate.com rebate form (which I didn't) ... I was told it was allowed and wouldn't be a problem and then that bitch was completely rude and unhelpful and then hung up on me.

Does anybody know what I should do?Ã,  I keep trying to call back but the line is busy.Ã,  Should I contact Samsung directly?Ã,  Do I have any hope of winning (getting the other rebate)?Ã,  Should I swallow pride and let it drop?

So to anybody who has taken the time to read this here is my advice:
Make (and keep) a copy of the rebate forms and receipts and log ALL calls made (times, names, dates, etc.)Ã,

What pisses me off is that I know this ... I've been burned before because I didn't note down who I spoke to and when.

Sorry for the long post ... I'm just REALLY angry and needed to vent.
