I have the Sony MDP-650 LD player.Ã,  I love the thing ... it's super heavy, super slow, and super loud!!

I don't use it much anymore ... I took the Last of the Mohicans LD that I had and made a DVD from the LD because the DVD version they released is the king of CRAP!Ã,  I also am making the Original versions of Star Wars into DVDs from the Star Wars Definitive Collection on Laser Disc.Ã,  Making my own DVD cases, menues, etc.Ã,  (yes I have a dual layer DVD burner!)

The image isn't as good as DVD (more comparable to VHS) but I apply a few filters and sharpen it a bit and get it looking pretty darn good if I do say so myself.Ã,  And it's only AC3 surround sound ... but that's good enough for me.Ã,  I just want the OT on DVD!

Quote from: Abulafia on Tue 04/01/2005 20:14:46What are the chances of those two moons being in the exact same position of their orbit 10,000 years after the first picture?
Pretty good if the picture was taken at the same time of day I would guess.  However, they're not really in the same positions ...

I really like the moon on the left.  Looks like it  sustained a massive impact of some kind.  Neat.  I think, if the impact was recent enough ... it could stay looking like that I should think.  I don't know about the physics of it ... but it looks cool.

I like how the planet looks fresh and new in the first picture, and blighted and wasted in the next.  Very much like Earth'll probably look in 10,000 years.

Congrats SpacePirateCaine ...

You win.

[nice Darth]

Your English is very good for it not being your native language.

[mean Darth]

I'm going to lock this thread for several reasons:

1) You don't yet have a name for the game
2) Your main character doesn't yet have a name
3) You don't have any screenshots to show

Sounds to me like you have an IDEA for a game ... rather than a Game in Production.

Post the game idea in the Adventure Related Chat section to get feedback on the idea (or even the Critics Lounge I suppose) and if you need help, post in the ACR Thread.

When you have actually begun working on the game, and have read the FORUM RULES, either contact me to unlock this thread, or just start a new one.

Welcome to AGS and thank you, drive through.

Who would've thought?

Quote from: Darth Mandarb on Sat 01/01/2005 18:57:49The boot volume on my hard drive had lost a sector (fried) and it wouldn't load into windows.

Apparently I would have ;)

I was advised, after learning the boot record was fried, that it was only a matter of time before the drive fried completely and that it wasn't a good idea to keep the drive as Backup.Ã,  I kept the drive anyway and it lasted me for over a year before blowing up.Ã,  But once it starts ... it's all over.

Is eBay an option for you?Ã,  I found these:

Seagate 10gb IDE HardDrive - $0.99 (0 bids - at time of this post)

Western Digital 10gb IDE HardDrive - $10

Western Digital 8.4GB IDE Hard Drive - $9

And that's just a few ... there were hundreds of them listed.

I'm certainly no expert on the inner workings of computers, but I had a similar problem before.

The boot volume on my hard drive had lost a sector (fried) and it wouldn't load into windows.  The drive was okay other than that and it would let me re-install windows as many times as I wanted (after I hooked the drive to another computer and backed up all my files!)  But it still wouldn't load in.

The solution was a new hard drive.  It worked like a charm after that.

I have no clue if that's what's wrong with your computer ... just thought I'd offer the suggestion!  Good luck!

Quote from: Evil on Thu 30/12/2004 19:00:12But those tape rewinders, what was with that? Why did you need a separate machine when you can rewind on the VCR?
What Rui said, and also because rewinding tapes in a VCR can damage the tape sometimes.

I remember getting our first VCR in 1982 or so ... it was a gigantic machine (like Dave Gilbert said) but it was way cool!Ã,  My uncle (around the same time) jumped on the BetaMax train so I remember those too.Ã,  My old man said BetaMax would die off and VHS would rule ... guess he was right!

I remember a few years later my dad bought the family a new VCR for Christmas ... it was like 1000 dollars (or something rediculous like that) but it had 'digital' memory where you could freeze the image and the VCR would keep it so you could go back later and see what you saved!Ã,  It had these video effects too (like mozaic, heat vision, etc.)

Now I can't hardly watch VHS anymore ... I'm spoiled by DVD.Ã,  Actually, what's worse is that now I'm spoiled by my HDTV and find DVDs lacking ...

will it ever end?

I tell you what, if it *does* hit, I'm getting my ass a front row seat!Ã,  I'm not gonna be one of those monleys who crawls out of some shelter 10 years after it hits to try to scratch a living out of ash and rock.Ã,  I've seen the Mad Max movies, and I'm all set.
This is exactly what I said!Ã,  I wanna be at ground zero when that sucker plows into the Earth!Ã,  Go out with a bang!

Plus in 25 years I'll be 53 years old ... that's a good time to go out.Ã,  Before my bodily functions are no longer under my control!

I think I have you all beat for the award of 'Best Christmas Gift' this year:

I got a lot of stuff ... stuff I wanted/needed and some I didn't even know I wanted.

I went over board on gift GIVING this year ...Ã,  spent WAY too much money.Ã,  I like giving soooo much more than receiving.Ã,  (though don't get me wrong, I do enjoy receiving gifts!)

Probably the best gift I gave was the DVD I made for my brother and his fiancè.Ã,  I took pictures from all the trips we've taken together (and 1 we didn't take with them) like, The cruise, the bahams, disney world, etc.Ã,  And I made slide shows set to meaningful music and put it all together under one menu where you could select each vacation to view the music video.Ã,  I even made a custom DVD Cover for the project.Ã,  It was awesome how much they loved it.

Yes, it's official.  Gamma is the winner!

Congrats Gamma!  You may start the next BGBlitz now.

We have a tie ... we need a tie-breaker!

The next vote for either Neutron or Gamma will decide.

Oh the tension, the rivalry ... the humanity!!!!!

The wonky perspective of this image makes shadows tricky ... you have some lee-way, but they still need to be accurate :)

Consider your light source!Ã,  You have walls in shadow where the light is directly facing!Ã,  It should be reversed.Ã,  The couch looks like part of it is transparent because it's not casting a shadow.Ã,  The television isn't shaded at all!Ã,  There's no depth to the window/door.

While certainly not complete, I did a paintover to illustrate some simple changes that could improve this bg greatly:

Use it wisely ... ;)

Quote from: releasethefrogs on Thu 23/12/2004 04:52:58The only things that MS Paint needs are Layers, then it'd be great.
Couldn't agree more!

I used to use Paint over photoshop back in the day.Ã,  But once I got introduced to layers (which was photshop 3 I believe) I have never looked back!Ã,  With a little know-how you can work photoshop just like Paint but it has sooooo much more.Ã,  I wouldn't have the patience to create some of my work in Paint ... it would just take FAR too long.

I think it boils down to preference basically.Ã,  If you're content using it, there's nothing wrong with it.
