I really like the style ... it's a neat change!

The plot sounds pretty fun and interesting as well.

Have you thought about extending it?Ã,  Making it a little longer than 7 rooms?Ã,  I'm just asking because it sounds like a potentially good plot/story to make into a longer game!

It reminds me of the showtime show 'Dead Like Me' but different enough that it's not the same!Ã,  I really like that show so this game appeals to me!

Keep upÃ,  the good work!

I can't wait for both of these!

I'm a huge hitchhiker fan and, as Yak seems to be, I'm worried about Hollywood effing it up.  Here's hoping.

I'm not a huge willy wonka fan, though I did love the movie, but I'm a HUGE Tim Burton and Johnny Depp fan so I'm droolin' for their new movie!

Wow - tons of replies!Ã,  Thanks for all the kind words!

InCreator - this was something I was definately worried about.Ã,  The over-all darkness of the images.Ã,  I will be correcting this.

Aussie - thanks for the tip.Ã,  That guy is the newest and least refined of the characters so I'm sure he'll be altered before making his appearance 'in-game'.

Gamma - It's funny you should mention that because I felt the same way and went in and made them less square.Ã,  They were even worse before!Ã,  I kind of want to give the impression that this is a very sterile and clean environment.Ã,  So I don't know if I'll change it more ... but thanks for the advice!

Erwin_Br - you can thank Mr. Farlander for the more natural skin tone.Ã,  He finally showed me the error of my skin color ways!Ã,  But you're definately right ... side by side with my old characters these definitely look better.

Snarky - Interesting ... I'll play around with shrinking the eye-brows a bit!

I have already ordered mine ... and there's a limit to one per person.  I know this because I tried to order another (for you).  I only have one credit card so I can't get around this one per thing unfortunately.

I will have Sara order one when she gets home tonight if you'd like.  Am I 'established' enough ;)

It takes 8-10 weeks for it to get here, then I'd happily ship it to you.

Let me know!

Blackthorne - did you send PMs to these guys?

I'm going to assume, given the inactivity of this thread, that this project is dead.

Mar (or whoever) if you're still working on it and want me to unlock this thread, so you can give an update, please let me know.

Tis the season to be jolly!Ã,  (sorry to SSH that folk didn't dig on the last idea!)

This time around ...

CHRISTMAS MOVIES

You must photoshop an existing movie poster (or scene from a movie) to change it into a Christmas movie.Ã,  (You can't just use a movie that's already about Christmas!)

The only rule this time will be that the image must contain the title of the movie and it must be altered slightly to reflect the holiday theme!Ã,  (sub titles work as well)

An example:

The true story of Hermie the elf ... a wrapper who's rhymes about life on the frozen streets of the north pole would speak for a whole generation.Ã,  If only he could make it out ...

I hope this topic is better received.  Good luck and Merry Christmas to all.

this contest flopped ... I really thought it was a good topic.

Oh well ...

Cast your votes fellas!

My vote goes to Neutron.

I too am making an awesome game.Ã,  It's called; "Why do we have Forum Rules?"

Dear Mr. blahing-necro,

It has been brought to my attention that either:

1) You did not read the forum rules (it's the inconspicuously titled thread "FORUM RULES - READ BEFORE POSTING" hidden right at the top of the GiP forum in plain site)

- or -

2) You are a member of the AGS community and you're playing a joke on me!

I'm inclined to think it's the latter.Ã,  Simply because I don't know how somebody could break that many rules unintentionally.  Either way, read up a little before you continue posting please.  It'll prevent problems.

Thank you ... have a nice day.

I found it pretty enjoyable.

He does an incredible job of setting 'mood' in his games.  The graphics, though not stellar, are enjoyable but it's the 'mood' of his games that I like the most.

I rented a book from the library, but when I read it my character got stuck in the 'reading' animation and never recovered.  I played the rest of the time sitting and reading, even while working.

Ali's last minute entry is excellent as is big brother's ... however this week's winner is Gilbot.Ã,  He's the only one that actually used an alteration of Santa Claus with his 'Santa Crawls'.

Congrats Gilbot!

It's the penguin!!!

Good to see you post again and thanks for the kind words.

PS
I'll be posting more soon ...

I have never heard of people outlawing the word "Christmas," and Darth's mall example is pretty extreme and a great example of people taking PC waaaay too far.Ã,  (though I must say, I really don't like the word Christmas anyway, as it comes from Christ's Mass, which in itself resulted from Church Fathers in the 4th century fixing the still unknown date of Jesus's birth around the old Roman Saturnalia festival--it was just the Christian leadership trying to usurp a traditional pagan celebration of Solstice!).
If you ask 100 kids what Christmas means, I'm guessing here, but not one of them would know that it was old world Christians usurping a pagen celebration.Ã,  To children it doesn't even have much to do with religion anymore other than it's the christians who celebrate it.Ã,  To most it's a time ofÃ,  year where you celebrate and give gifts and be cheerful and wait for Santa Claus.

My point was that Christians make up more than 70% of the population of this country ... and Christmas is a Christian holiday.Ã,  We should be able to make the country look like one big candy cane and Christmas tree every December.Ã,  Not only should we be allowed to do this we should do it.

Of course ... we're no longer talking about multiculturalism in Europe ;)

I'm really not trying to piss anybody off ... so if I've offended anybody let me just say "Merry Christmas!!!"
#3893
No matter what anybody says and/or does I will NEVER stop calling it Christmas nor celebrating it how I want.Ã,  (There are still more of us who celebrate Christmas than any other faith in the US)

There was a protest at the Broward mall this week.Ã,  Christians were protesting because a local Jewish store owner has a minora painted in his shop window.Ã,  Yet the 30 Christian shop owners surrounding him aren't allowed to put up Christmas decorations in their places.

This is so hypocritical I want to vomit.

I mean ... isn't religion supposed to be about tolerance?Ã,  I don't care when I see other religion on display ... what I care about is when people of my faith can't express it without it being complained about and forbidden.Ã,  Isn't religious freedom the VERY reason people come to this country?

Again ... hypocritical.

It goes back to my point in my earlier post.Ã,  It seems more and more that the 'many' must suffer so as not to offend the 'few'.Ã,  Doesn't seem to matter that the 'many' are then offended.Ã,  As long as society panders to the 'few' to keep them happy.Ã,  (in case you can't tell I'm avoiding using the words 'majority' and 'minority' because people associate those words with race)

I can't wait until I open my office down here and have my first Christmas there.Ã,  I'm going to decorate it with so much Christmas stuff ... and I just hope somebody complains.

Tis the season ... bah humbug.

If many of you feel the way Boyd feels, please let me know.  I don't mind changing the topic.

Yes indeed!Ã,  The technique is coded differently, but it looks the same.Ã,  Just a little more efficient.

Farlander - Yes, those are the same fish from the first game!

Anarcho - thanks!Ã,  It's always nice to hear!
#3896
strazer - it looks the same on my monitor ... but in-game it appears much lighter for some reason.Ã,  I'm not sure why this is happening and I've had to make it dark here so it'll show up like I want it in-game.Ã,  Wierd ...

chicky, potter, & big brother - these poses will never be in the game.Ã,  The characters do look like this but I use these poses more as 'models' for the characters.Ã,  But in game they're almost always in motion and animated.Ã,  So guns, shoulders, hips, etc won't be this 'posed'.

big brother - be as harsh as you want!Ã,  I'm used to critism and it makes me work harder!Ã,  It's exactly the reason I posted in here!Ã,  I'll get to playing with the contrast and color values to make the characters 'pop'!Ã,  Thanks for the tip!Ã,  Do you feel that my edits still look too flat?Ã,

Here are two backgrounds (still in progress) from the game to give you a little taste of the graphical style:

#3897

Argh ... it was supposed to match the background color ... oh well.

I have applied hi-lighting to each of the characters now.Ã,  And there's a new character being shown.Ã,  He is the antagonist of the story ... the military leader of the 'bad guys' who is planning to over throw his government and wage war against the Alliance of Galactic Societies.
#3898
loominous - excellent, thanks!Ã,  While I am not going to use that many colors you've shown me what I was having trouble achieving!Ã,  I originally had more high light colors, but just couldn't make it look right.

Squinky - keep an eye on your PM's ;)

Thanks to the rest for the positive feedback!Ã,  It keeps me inspired!

Here is an updated JP character:

I basically did what loom did, only I did it with less colors.Ã,

I love this Critics Lounge.Ã,  I was pretty happy with the characters as they were, but now, when comparing the new JP to the old ... It's night and day!Ã,  Thanks loominous!

As I update the other characters I'll post them as well!

Some good entries so far ...

Though Gilbot captured the essence of the contest the best so far.

Keep 'em coming!!
