well ... congratulations Bernie ... you've done it.

You've moved to the top of my 'most anticipated games' list!

Just amazing ...

I plan out EVERYTHING before I ever get into AGS.

I work on the story first.Ã,  Developing characters, plot, direction, etc.Ã,  I think about possible puzzles during this period, but don't focus on them.Ã,  Then I develop character art.Ã,  I always start with characters first ... it helps me get a feel for the environments I will create later.Ã,  When I have settled on the story and have started creating the character art, I start thinking about the puzzles and where they'll be in the game and how to make them seem 'realistic' in-game.Ã,  Backgrounds come next.Ã,  When I have the backgrounds done, then and only then, do I open AGS and start putting it together.

I have found that no matter how much I work on BGs and characters, once I get into AGS, I start finding things I've forgotten, or I refine things I thought were done.Ã,  I suppose that's just the nature of it.

I too, like Dragonrose, spent a lot of time cursing ... which is why I stayed out of AGS until I [thought I] was ready for it.Ã,  Now I've discovered I still spend a lot of time cursing while developing.Ã,  Must just be part of making games I guess :)

Quote from: Mr. Hyde on Wed 01/12/2004 05:04:35Paint that comes in Windows 3.11 can save palettes, but I doubt anyone here still has Windows 95.Ã,  :P
That would explain it ... windows 95 was probably the last time I seriously played with M$Paint :)

Don't worry about your English ... it was actually very good for a non-native speaker :)

I don't know much ... but check to see if "Handle Inventory Clicks in Script" (in the Mouse section of the general settings) is checked.Ã,  If it is, you may need to uncheck it to make it work.Ã,  Or, conversely, if it isn't checked and you're handling the clicks via scripting, you'll need to check it.  That solved a similar issue I was having before!

I'm sure it's more complicated ... but that was the first thing that came to mind when reading your question.

When I edited the game entry for JP & Cosmo I was able to figure out how to list those involved in helping with the game.Ã,  However, I do have a suggestion.

When you view the game's pages it says who helped out with the game.Ã,  You have to enter the name the person is registered with; so for me it's, 'darth-mandarb'.Ã,  My username is displayed, 'Darth Mandarb'.Ã,  I would suggest that yes, you enter their name the way it's registered but the game's detail page uses whatever their current display name is instead.

Some people have completely changed their display names so it's not even similar to their registered name.

Lets hope Darth Mandarb doesn't find this post :-X
haha!Ã,  For some reason that warmed my heart ...

You know what we should do?Ã,  We should make a rotating image up there (so it's different everytime you visit) and the mouseOver text should read, "Click to view banner details" and when you click it would take you to a page that lists each game in the montage.

That way, when people still continually ask this question, we can really let them have it for not taking the time to search for the answer!!

Quote from: Snarky on Wed 01/12/2004 03:12:38Remember that woman who won a $3 mill. lawsuit against MacDonald's for burning herself on their hot coffee? Well, she had a point.
If she wasn't sittin' in her car with the coffee cup between her legs trying to open it with one hand it wouldn't have happened.

What are they [McDonald's] supposed to do?Ã,  Maybe put zippers around the lid which require both hands to open.Ã,  Maybe they should put accelerometers on the cups to make sure it's not in motion while being sipped.

Of course ... this doesn't have anything to do with Police accountability ... but I couldn't resist (as usual) chiming in here :)

I resent that statement ... my dog doesn't have a gun.Ã,  He carries grenades instead.

Thought I'd carry on with some Pixar pop-culture.

General Discussion / Re: Video Cards
Tue 30/11/2004 18:27:38
I just bought an NVIDIA GeForce 6800 GT with 256 mb.  It was $388.00.  It's a great card BUT I found out, after buying it, that there's a hardware glitch and the DVD decoder doesn't work.  One of the main reasons I bought this card was to power my media center and it won't even play DVDs ...

I'm in 'negotiations' with them to send me a new card with a hardware fix.  If I spend that kind of money I expect to get something that works!

I say we give it a try at a month.Ã,  See what happens.

I know that sometimes I don't want to enter because I don't have the time to make an entry worth displaying.Ã,  Same with the BG Blitz contest.Ã,  Extending the time-line would change that I think.

I would also suggest, with the extended time-line, we add ... something ... to the rules/guidelines.Ã,  Make it a little more interesting/challenging.Ã,  I don't really know what, I just thought I'd add it to the discussion.

Anyway ... I vote "Yay" to the question.

After re-reading my post (and the subsequent posts since) I realized I never really answered the question posed ...

Yes, I believe police should be help accountable for their actions.

So should the average citizen.

If you've decided that you're going to break the law then you must take responsibility for your actions.Ã,  Does 'stealing a candy bar' mean you should be shot and killed?Ã,  Certainly not.

I just don't think some drug dealing scumbag's family should be able to file a lawsuite because the police caught him stabbing somebody with 10 kilos of crack in his back pocket as he was taking pot-shots at the cops.Ã,  These lawsuits should never be allowed to happen.

It makes me want to be a judge so I can say, "Let me see if I have this right ... your son, who was in posession of 10 viles of cocaine and had seven warrents out for his arrest, was caught stabbing somebody and then proceeded to shoot it out with the police and you want to sew the police force for shooting back?Ã,  Here's the 'dumb moron idiotic dip-shit' award just for you."

Rodney King is a good example of police going too far, yes ... but the part they always seem to leave out of the story is how he was fucked up on PCP and was running from the police and then, when they caught him, he wouldn't stop fighting them no matter how they beat on him.Ã,  Did they go overboard after he was subdued?Ã,  Yes they did.Ã,  But Rodney King was no innocent victem.Ã,  He was a drug addict loser ... not some social hero.

Quote from: Anarcho on Tue 30/11/2004 01:34:57I'm sure there are plenty of cops who mean well, but when human beings are put in positions of authority over other human beings, people can really go nuts.
This is true, but is the alternative better?Ã,  Is having no police force even conceivably better?Ã,  We, as a society, put a certain ammount of faith/trust in our police forces.Ã,  We expect certain things from them.Ã,  The problem is, the nightly news doesn't report that Officer Jones saved the life of John Q. Public today ... no ... we hear about Officer Smith who was caught stealing from the evidence locker.

We only hear about the bad cops because, apparently, that's the good news stories.

That's just sad to me.

Police (the world over I should think) have a thankless and damn near impossible job.

I have a buddy on the job.Ã,  He was called to the scene of a break-in a few months back.Ã,  This guy (the perp) was breaking into a warehouse.Ã,  The two police units cornered him and he made a break for it.Ã,  Tony (my friend) cut him off and suprised him when he came over a fence.Ã,  The idiot takes a swing at Tony, who sticks him and knocks him down before cuffing him.Ã,  This jack-ass is trying to sew the department for a shattered knee-cap!!Ã,  And the sad thing is it's actually going forward.Ã,  To me this is disgusting.

Personally I think law enforcement isn't given enough freedom to do their job.

Should they drag you out of your car and cuff you for speeding or rolling through a stop sign?Ã,  No, certainly not.

Should they be able to take down some dreg who is endangering innocents around him?Ã,  Hell yes.

When Tony tells me about the lawsuits against his department it makes me want to become a vigilante and find these losers and put them out of their misery.

Now before I anger anybody, I KNOW there are times when cops go too far and some lawsuits aren't frivolous.Ã,  But so many of them are because these losers figure it's an easy payday.Ã,  Sometimes cops go over-the-edge, granted, but I must say that sometimes I don't blame them.

What they deal with day to day ... it's amazing it doesn't happen more often.Ã,  They have to deal with punks, losers, druggies, pushers, pimps, the absolute dregs of society.Ã,  Then the next day some dumb old lady doesn't pull over fast enough and the cop just loses it and really lets her have it.

I've seen videos of the police in Russia ... now these guys have it right.Ã,  They don't tolerate jack from anybody.Ã,  Don't do what they say after the first warning you're on the ground with their knee wrenching your neck and your arm twisted painfully behind your back.

If the police are forced, by public opinion, to be less forceful more of them are going to be killed/injured.Ã,  When you have to take somebody down you don't do it half assed.Ã,  You use full force and put the hurt on them.Ã,  If they didn't do something to deserve it in the first place it wouldn't be happening anyway.

When people complain about police brutality I usually just say, "Yeah ... we'd be soooo much better off with no police at all."Ã,  For what the good cops provide, I'll gladly deal with a few bad apples here and there.

Actually, when I stood next to Sr. he was much shorter than me :) Ã, But then, I'm 6'4" so a good ammount of people are shorter than me.

About the pix ...

Paul Sr.
Looks pretty good ... the hair line could use a little work but the body shape is a good representation.  And the face looks really like him.

Paulie
looks a little off though. Ã, I think the goatee is the wrong color. Ã, Plus his beard goes up his cheeks, it's not just a goatee.

Also there IS a game made for these guys. Ã, I just saw the commercial for it yesterday!

General Discussion / Re: Web Site Comments

I was going to suggest canning the splash screen as well.

The top of the screen ... the thin 'bar' up there ... it seems a little unnecessary.Ã,  Seems like it doesn't quite fit it (to me).Ã,  I would remove that and let the blank area bump up against the top of the screen.

There are some really bad jaggies (on my screen at least) where the orange areas are and the metal angles into it.

Some of the graphics seem blurry ... are you using HTML to resize them.Ã,  I would advise against this.

The design itself isn't all that bad, a bit 'similar' I might say, but certainly not bad.Ã,  Once you fill it up with actual content I think it'll work a little better.

What is the purpose of the site?Ã,  Is it a 'Linux' thing?

Correct me if I'm wrong (please!) but can't you select (and save) pallettes in M$Paint?
#3958
Holy smokes!Ã,  I didn't even realize I had won!Ã,  Thanks for the votes guys.Ã,  Not that it matters at this point (I guess) but Farlander would have gotten my vote.

I'll start the next Blitz as soon as I think of a worthy topic!

Thanks!

So how about, as the rules suggest, a PM to the game's author rather than bumping a thread that hasn't had a post in 1 month?

Because you didn't read the rules?

Because non-members can't send PMs?

AGS Games in Production / Re: LAPD

Well, by empty I meant 'lack of detail' more than 'lack of objects' ...

While the corridor may lack objects in it, the walls still have details, as do the floors, ceilings, windows, etc.Ã,  Stuff like dirt, cracks, tiles, panelling, beams of light, shadows, hi-lights, locks, door locks, light switches, wires, lights, etc.

The devil is in the details :)
