LostTraveler - I meant those more as suggestions than actual solutions. Ã, But as Rich pointed out, sometimes it's necessary to do radical things. Ã, I, too, am all for radical change if the end result is worth it. Ã, And I think over population and neglegent parenting is a big enough issue to warrent taking drastic steps to remedy the problem.

DragonRose - Unbelievable ... and then they get mad 'cause they got in trouble for being ignorant ... oh the irony.

That's a pretty good idea ... the sterilization at birth thing. Ã, I mean, sure, it too is drastic. Ã, But you're absolutely right that nobody has the right to screw up somebody elses life.

It's too bad if can't be programmed into the human code:

if (person = bad) {
set reproduce=0; // no children allowed
}
else if (person = good) {
set reproduce=1; // can have 1 child
}
else if (person = great) {
set reproduce=2; // can reproduce at will
}
}

Perhaps someday ...

I too noticed the arms were a little long ... but I wasn't sure if I should change that or not.

That's a terrible thing about killing the newborns ... I can't even imagine.

A few years ago some friends and I had this discussion. Ã, I came up with some thoughts ...

Radical System #1
If a woman gives birth and ends up in the hospital (whether she went to give birth or tried to squeeze the kid out in an ally and ended up in the hospital ... whatever) the doctors should perform certain tests.

1) drug test - if there is ANY type of illegal substance in her body she loses.
2) blood/alcohol level - if she's anywhere near intoxicated (this level should be much lower than the driving limit ... she IS pregnent) she loses.
3) the daddy test - if she can't positively prove who the father is, she loses.

#3 is the only one where she should receive any leeway ... but if 1 or 2 are true, the doctors should perform a tube-tying operation (whatever that's called) so she can never have babies again.Ã,  Better yet ... take out the baby, then take out the uterus.Ã,  A woman that would be high and/or drunk while having a child should NEVER be allowed to have babies period.Ã,  So they should ensure she'll not have more.

I think it should be a 1 strike policy.

Radical System #2
Like Kinoko said, they institute a 'license to procreate'. Ã, You have to meet certain criteria in order to have kids. Ã, Perhaps;
1) you must be married
2) you must achieve a certain income
3) you must not have a criminal record
Something like that. Ã, If you don't meet these standards, you can't reproduce. Ã, If you do 1 time, you get taxed up the wazoo! Ã, If you do it again, you lose the ability to ever have kids again (tube tie or removal of testicals ... something) and you pay HUGE fines until the kid(s) are 18.Ã,  BOTH parents.

Of course, the biggest problems that would come from these 'laws' would be that 1) abortion would sky rocket (which would raise another shit storm of debate in the world) and 2) a lot of 'ally' babies would be born because people wouldn't want to get caught having the kid.

So, also like Kinoko said, I just don't see a [reasonable] solution to the problem.Ã,  It's probably going to have to be something radical.

If you want feedback and criticisms on the sprites (or any artwork) post it in the Critics Lounge.

This thread (board) is just for keeping people up to date on the progress of the game you're working on!

It's good to know you're still working on this.Ã,  I am a huge Star Wars fan ... if I had more time I'd definately help.Ã,  But I'm sorry ... I just don't have the time. :(

But still ... keep it up!Ã,  I like what you've got so far.

Yes, I definately like the style of #5 the best.Ã,  I just preferred the clothing a little more from #4.

As I was 'playing' with them I tended towards 5 more as is, but I made two versions.

- added some more shading/details to the shirt/body
- changed the boots a little (and added spurs)
- changed the color of the pants slightly
- added to the hat (just shading)
- added a nose line
- thickened his forearm (his left) just a little
- added a vest
- added gunbelt and holster

And I wanted to see what this would look like in scene:

If you were to use a character in this style, with your backgrounds it would be simply fantastic (and I don't often use that word).

Excellent stuff.

Yeah, they really shouldn't treat their kids like that ? ? ?

Here's the problem I see a lot these days.Ã,  Those that shouldn't be having kids (crackwhores, losers, etc) are the ones actually having them.Ã,  While the people who CAN handle kids, and be good parents, are waiting till they're ready.

It's tragic.Ã,  But unless they (in America) decide to trim a little [more] fat off the constitution and take away some more of our civil liberties it's just going to keep happening.

These same losers can then cheat wellfair and use the money to buy alcohol, drugs, etc. rather than taking care of their illegitiment child(ren).

Then those same kids grow up and repeat their parent(s) mistakes.Ã,  It's vicious circle that keeps going 'round and 'round.

Isn't it China that has severe laws about the number of kids per family?Ã,  How does that work?

For Haloween ... I decided to go as Master Chief:

With the rich contrasting you have in the background(s) ... the faded look to #2 is a little distracting in my opinion.Ã,  (granted, #2 might only look faded in relation to the other characters)

Personally I think the clothing of #4 is the best.Ã,  Match that up with the head/hat and coloring style of #5 and I think it'll be just perfect!!Ã,  Totally a gunslinging sheriff of the wild west.

If you can post up some Gif versions of these characters (on solid backgrounds) I'd be happy to show what I mean, but as a jpeg it's so compressed I can't really play with it (successfully).

I didn't have a lot of time, but I wanted to help if I could ...

Basically I just started throwing random details (panels and rivets) and added some shading to make the side a little darker (following your light source).  I didn't have time to follow perspective (or even do the whole thing) I just wanted to give you the idea of what I mean!

What others have said about detailing is important.Ã,  The rotor assembly for example.Ã,  Also there are several parts where depth is missing.Ã,  The rotor blades for example.Ã,  Some have depth, some don't.Ã,  I added depth to the cockpit windows on the side as well as straightening some of the connecting lines.

Sorry it was rushed, I hope it helps.

I used to work in a super market (wasn't anything super about it ...).Ã,  One time I caught a woman stealing beer (two 40 oz. bottles).Ã,  This isn't remarkable ... I used to catch people stealing ALL the time.

She had hidden the beer UNDER HER INFANT BABY in the stroller (pram).

It made me sick to my stomach.Ã,  I hauled her into the 'holding' office and called the cops.Ã,  She was BEGGING me ... telling me she'd do 'anything' and even offered a few things (use your imaginations) if I would let her go.

The cops arrested her and they took the baby from her.Ã,  I don't know how it ended up, but hopefuly the kid was given a better home.Ã,  But knowing the system, the lady probably got the kid back 2 days later.

*shrugs* you're right Rich ... some people just don't deserve it.

This time around was a better show.Ã,  It wasn't constantly windy like Frances was, but it was FAR stronger winds.Ã,  So when the gusts came through it was quite impressive!

Watching the power transformers sparking all night was fun too.Ã,  When the wind blows strong, the wires 'rub' (rubbin is racin') and throw up quite a fireworks display!

As a result, we lost power about 9pm.Ã,  It flickered a few times but then went off for good.

About 3:30am it flickered back a few times before going off again.Ã,  Then came back on for good about 4:30am.

It hasn't flickered since.

So it wasn't too bad ... though I was bored outta my mind from about 1am to 4:30am because Sara (who can fall asleep at will) zonked out about 1am and I had nothing to do.Ã,  Thank god I had charged my GameBoy Advance ... I played Tetris for 4 hours.

Oh ... and by the way, I was kidding about the Gloria Estefen concert ... I couldn't be paid to go see that no talent hack.Ã,  But the concert WAS cancelled ... bummer.

Well ... Ivan missed us, and then Jeanne passed us by.Ã,  But now Jeanne has turned completely around and is headed right for us!!

It's moving much faster and is a bigger (more powerful) storm than Frances was.Ã,  I'm not worried about anything except losing power ... no power means no computer/internet, no TV/DVD, no nothing = BORING!!

It's supposed to be here by later tonight (Saturday in the U.S.A.) ...

I'm officially announcing that I'm ready for Hurricane Season to end.Ã,  And to think I had tickets for the Gloria Estefen concert tonight ... *sigh*

I rather liked it ...

I must follow that up with this; I am a musical retard.Ã,  I know nothing about scale, tempo, rhythm, beat, coord progression, or any of that.

But I know what I like and don't like.

And I know I rather liked that.

Note: You might want to just change the title of the thread to 'Oz's Beats' (or something) and each time you have a new song just update the thread rather than starting a new one.Ã,  It'll be better organized, cleaner for the forums, and easier to find!

Mr(s). spooky-cookie - You already posted this question in the Critics Lounge (and it was locked there for obvious reasons).Ã,  Seeing as you posted the same thing twice I'm assuming you haven't read the forum rules for this section?

It's the inconspicuously title thread; READ THIS THREAD BEFORE POSTING ANYTHING ELSE!

You'll get the answers you need from actually reading that thread (and the links it provides) better than everybody rehashing the same information in this thread which will be locked shortly I'm sure.

Also, there's a search function on the forums.Ã,  Use that before you post another 'how to do this' thread.Ã,  ALWAYS search first, chances are good that you aren't the first person to have a particular question.

Not trying to be harsh on you ... you just need to read (and follow) the rules.

Thanks.

[kneejerk response]
"How do you create a game?"
You use AGS ...
[/kneejerk response]

Truth:Ã,  Read the BFAQ, read the manual, download the demo, and practice.Ã,  There's nothing anybody in here can say that will make you suddenly understand how to do it.Ã,  Start using it and see what happens ...

From the homepage: "AGS is not for everyone."

(Just to let you know this post doesn't belong in the Critics Lounge.)

Congrats Barbarian!!!

Now we say goodbye to this GiP thread ...

poop - Have you read over the threads (scattered throughout these boards) about how to upload and where?Ã,  They're as detailed as any explanation you're going to get from somebody in this post.Ã,  Please review them, if you haven't already.

At the top of the forums theres a link that says; Help which will take you to a page that will answer most questions about how to post screenshots (the code).Ã,  It's very in depth and should answer all your 'forum how to' questions.

Also, I know the rules in this board don't say it, but is the title of your game actually "Great Game!!!"?Ã,  You really should use the actual title of the game in the thread's subject.Ã,  If you don't have an actual title for the game ... is it really a full, completed game?

I know it's exciting, and that you want people to know about your game.Ã,  But why would you start a thread telling folks about it when there's nothing for them to see or download?Ã,  It's like telling a starving man about what you had for lunch ... doesn't do anybody any good.

So ... take a deep breath, do some reading up on the how-to's and then post a link to a site we can download the 'Great Game!!!' from :)

We did this a few months back ...

http://www.agsforums.com/yabb/index.php?topic=15265.0

I don't think anything came of it, other than the Larry Vales one being added.

I wouldn't mind a competition where people can enter their own versions of the smilies ... might be fun.Ã,  I think it was decided that too many people liked them 'as-is' (I don't remember and I didn't re-read that thread)

I know I entered a few of my own design ...
