Was it Jawa juice?

I'm rather fond of Jawa juice ...

Website looks great!

The only thing I would suggest would be slightly lightening the main body text (or darkening the deep red background).

Other than that, nothing to crit, it looks fantastic!

Quote from: shbazjinkens on Thu 09/09/2004 02:38:42Is this your fault? Do you deserve to suffer for it if a nuclear holocaust occurs, because I'm pretty sure that this would be the fault of relatively few people in comparison to the world population.
Well no ... I just meant that if the population was diminished because of the fault of human-kind I would be dead anyway ... I mean, does the human race deserve a second chance?Ã,  If they destroyed themselves the first time around why bother with a second?Ã,  It'll just happen again and I, the innocent un-involved, will once again be obliterated by a blinding flash of nuclear energy once again!!

Quote from: shbazjinkens on Thu 09/09/2004 02:38:42To me, that's like saying, "If someone is injured in an auto accident and would die without care, do they deserve to go to the hospital?"
Yes of course they deserve to go to the hospital, but what if there weren't any hospitals?Ã,  I have mixed feelings about this issue.

If you think about it, before modern man learned the wonders of science and medicine there were FAR fewer people on this planet because people just didn't live as long.Ã,  Now that we know how to live longer the planet is over-flowing with people.Ã,  I think things like Hanta, Ebola, AIDs, etc. are the planet's way of trying to get rid of the human 'fleas'.

Now of course I was just playing devil's advocate with those two questions you commented on.Ã,  As I stated below them (in the original post) I think this idea is a good one and should be done.

I think, in the end, it doesn't hurt anything to do it and could, in the long run, be very beneficially to us.

I believe the last one is 'Astranded' ... but I could be wrong.

Anyway, a good idea for a computer game.
I was totally thinking the same thing ... an alien race steals the 'ark' from the moon and is going to use it to 'build' spies to send to Earth so they can stealthily learn and study our planet before invading!

Back on topic:

I think the system could only work if people survived the 'holocaust' in whatever form it takes.

Oh ... and would these people be clones?Ã,  I was more envisioning test-tube babies than cloning.

I mean, what good would it do us if we put all that DNA on the moon and tomorrow we needed it?Ã,  We can't clone a human yet can we?

Ponderous ...

I'm no astro-physicist here, but I think if something big enough came barrelling through the cosmos and completely obliterated the Earth the moon would probably be destroyed too. Ã, Or would it drift off into the sun? Ã, I just don't know ...

I think the guy is counting on there being survivors.Ã,  Survivors who would retrieve the DNA, bring it back, and start over.

So if you can learn how to repopulate the earth using a stash of DNA you'll be guarenteed a ticket to the 'Asteroid Bunker' with the other VIPs.

On a similar note ... I have decided that if an asteroid is going to destroy the planet and there's no chance for us peasants, I want to go to ground zero and watch it happen. Ã, At least I'd go out with a bang.

Totally awesome indeed ... if a bit creepy!

It's wierd to think about what's down there. Ã, I saw a special on the History Channel about the catacombs and how there's still parts undiscovered and unknown.

I love the, "Don't try to find us!" bit ... talk about spitting in the face of authority.

Sounds to me like the Cataphiles are a little more developed and organized than they thought!

I must say there's part of me that wishes I hadn't seen this ... 'cause Sara and I are planning a trip to Europe next year and now I know I'm just gonna get myself in trouble looking for these things ...

No, I heard they were only taking pure Aryan samples.

The rocket that carries the samples to the moon is called the 'Hitler 1' and uses a modified v2 rocket called the v3.

I kid ...

The article specifically says, " ... repository for the DNA of every single species of plant and animal."Ã,  and even talks about taking samples of the Earth's biosphere.

Douglas Adams is laughing in his grave ...

I figured I would post the coupon offer in the Completed Games post I would make for the game ... and it would probably expire after the first month after the game's release (the coupon code would be good until you use it but you can only get a coupon code for the first month).

That way, only those who read about the game on the forums (the AGS forum members) would realize it was there.

Not really sure if I want to do this ... because if you charge people for it:
1) People will expect/demand it to be commercial quality (no bugs, fully animated, full soundtrack, etc.)
2) You must support it (maintain websites, solve download problems, track shipping, packaging, etc.)

It's a lot more work to release something commercially then a lot of people probably know.Ã,  I still think it CAN be done ... just not sure I want to do that much extra work.Ã,  I already have a full plate!

I would like to thank Spyros and rodekill for their time too.Ã,  This forum has always been clean and well moderated.Ã,  Thanks, of course, to Gil as well.

And congrats to Scorpiorus and Strazer on attaining moderator-hood!

I was, at first, a little on the nervous side about it [moderating], but really the only difference is that all those times you've read a post and thought, "well that's just not a tech forum question ... somebody should move it straight away!!"Ã,  Well ... now you can do just that!

You'll both do great!

Congrats again!

I rather like this ...

I would suggest taking out the lighter blue filling the cup (behind the big G) it's a little distracting to me.

The drop shadows behind the boxes (an - production) I would do in a darker color than the outline to seperate them a little more.Ã,  Right now, as is, I at first thought it was a mistake.

Personally I'd get rid of the surrounding boxes and the border AGS-es ... something like this:

But I like plain'n'simple ... that's me :)

I am considering making 1 of my current projects a commercial AGS game.

I'm trying to think of a coupon system (or something similar) where all the forum members here could get it for free (I certainly wouldn't want to charge you guys!) but everybody else would pay for it.

I was thinking of 2 versions.

1) online version - downloadable and cheap, something like 4.99 USD
2) DVD/CD version - I ship it to you, comes with a neatly designed package and manual but would be more expensive 24.99 USD (or whatever the cost of producing the materials and shipping would end up being)

I was thinking that when the game is released I would start a thread saying, "If you want it (for free) sign up in this thread - offer expires on [insert date here]" and then e-mailing everybody (who signed up) a 'coupon code' for the website.

Then, when they login to the site, they can enter the code for a free download.Ã,  (and of course regular forum members would get the free download even after the deadline if they just missed signing up on time!)

I've thought about this a lot ... I would feel like a total bastard for charging you all [AGS forumers] because that's not what I feel AGS is (has been) about.

It's funny though 'cause if any of you charged for a game, I would gladly pay for it (if it was good quality of course!).

Very interesting indeed ...

Raises all sorts of questions in my mind.

If we can't stop ourselves from destroying the planet (nuclear holocaust) do we deserve a Noah's Ark on the moon?

If an asteroid is going to wipe out the planet would we be messing with destiny/fate by having a 'backup' of the planet?

Now those are just my doom-n-gloom questions.

Personally I think it's a fantastic sci-fi idea.Ã,  I mean, if we've advanced to the point where something like that is possible why shouldn't we do it?Ã,  If we can virtually guarentee our continued existance don't we have the right (obligation) to do so?

I think a scientist calling it 'Noah's Ark in Space', is brilliant.Ã,  It ties science and religion together quite nicely that way (at least in my (not overly religious) way of thinking).

Yes, it's possible.

** darth's finger itches ... **

Kidding ... I'm not going to lock this one.

It's very detailed and has a lot of information, and there are in-game graphics being displayed I guess.

It really should have a screenshot though. :)

And I must confess ... I don't believe I've ever seen anything Dr. Who related.Ã,  I must now endeavor to broaden my horizons!

It's funny you started a topic like this Andail because I was just thinking about this subject (sort of) yesterday.

I was thinking about how I spend soooo much time on these forums, but yet I still manage my personal life, and my professional life.Ã,  Now, granted, it's easier for me than for some because my job has me on the internet ALL day long so I just naturally bounce back and forth between work and AGS forums.

I think what keeps me coming back is the creative side of these forums because I love making games (working on games) and doing pixel art, and helping others, and of course the friends I've made ... but I must confess that I've learned sooo much just by visiting the GenGen and reading the random posts in there.

I've learned to tone down my sarcasm (thanks to Daniel :)) and not be such a cocky ass all the time.

I've learned a lot about other cultures and ways of life.

I love seeing how other countries refer to certain things like; being drunk (in America) = being pissed (in England).Ã,  That still makes me laugh, 'cause over here being pissed means being very angry about something!

I've realized that American foreign policy has made the rest of the world pretty darn uphappy with us (which makes me sad).

I can honestly say that the AGS forums have truely made me more open minded.Ã,  They've given me the ability to see things from more than just my own angle.Ã,  I still have some strong views on certain subjects that I'm not going to change but don't we all?

This community is strong because I think most people here (obviously) have a common ground; the love of Adventure Games.Ã,  But it's more that ... I think, when a new person comes along, they see how tight the commuity here is and I think for most that's a very attractive thing ... something they want to become a part of.

I came to AGS in March of 2003, less than 2 years ago.Ã,  Yet I feel like I've been here for a lot longer than that.

There are VERY few regrets I have about my time with AGS ...

I regret bumping heads (arguing) with a few members during my first few months here.Ã,  It created some tension that I wish wasn't there.Ã,  I hold no ill feelings towards anybody here and I hope my actions in the subsequent months have erase any bad feelings they may have harboured toward me.

Not being able to attend MITTENS was really hard for me.Ã,  I had it scheduled as a 'must do' over the summer but because of my dental mishaps it wasn't financially possible for me.Ã,  I really wanted to meet all my fellow AGSers ... perhaps next year (Australia??)

And that's really it ... [end of mushiness]

I have been staying out of political discussions recently (just 'cause they tend to get heated) but I thought I'd chime in here just a little bit.

I really don't think terrorists understand 'peace-talks'.

Their hatred is too deeply ingrained into them for that.

I don't like it, but I really think military action is the only way to deal with them.Ã,  Imagine this scenario ... a team of U.N. diplomats meets with an Al-Qaeda operative to discuss the ceasation of hostilities.Ã,  They meet, shake hands, and then the bomb goes off killing them all.Ã,

Terrorist don't want peace, they want their enemies dead.

Violence begets violence (as SSH pointed out) ... I just don't think (as I've said before) that we've been out of the trees long enough for human nature to change to the point that we aren't a violent species.

Ironic isn't it ... the fact that the violence in our 'human nature' is the very thing that shows how similar we all truely are?

Do you have an in-game screenshot available?Ã,  (title screens don't count)

The sprites are nice and all, but the FORUM RULES require a minimum of 1 screenshot.

The game seems well thought out and detailed, the sprites look very lucas-artsy and interesting.

Questions:
1) What resolution is the game going to run at?
2) What is your progress so far? (scripting, bgs, story, etc)

Please post at least 1 screenshot ... very soon ;)

Totally!!Ã,  I'd say that's the most important part.

There's nothing more annoying for a game to do than have cutscenes you can't skip.Ã,  Even if they're the coolest you've ever seen, by the third or fourth time you just don't want to watch them again (sometimes).
