General Discussion / Re: Free computer, Ipod

This is the reason why there is so much spam ...

Because people fall for this kind of shit.

My friends still send me those emails about the missing kid, or the 'send this to 10 people and you'll receive a coupon', even after I've told them repeatedly that it's all bullshit and they're just signing up for spam.

It's amazing to me that people still get suckered by this shit.

You want proof this is just another spam-scam?Ã,  Go to eBay and search for iPod ... you'll find hundreds of entries that say, "Not an auction" and are just links to this same scam.

That's a pretty good site.

It's been quite a few years since I've worked retail but I have worked several retail jobs in the past.Ã,

At one point I was writing a book called; Everybody Should Work at a Grocery Store about all the stupid things I had to put up with while working at a local market.

I had a customer once, while working a Blockbuster (video rental place), who was refusing to pay his late fees.Ã,  This guy had tried this before.Ã,  It is BBV's policy to not argue with customers so technically I should have just given him his wish ... but I had had it with this clown.

I told the CSRs (customer service representatives) that if he tried to get out of late fees to come and get me (I was the manager).Ã,  Sure enough he does, the CSR called me over ...

Me: "What's the problem?"
Idiot: "I'm not paying these rediculous late charges!!"
Me: "Let me take a look here ..." as I looked at the screen typing a message to the CSR 'This guy is a fucking moron' and had a moment of hilarity as the CSR stuggled not to laugh.Ã,  "Well sir, the videos were three days overdue.Ã,  They were due back on saturday."
Idiot: "Well I couldn't get back in here saturday, so why don't you cut me some slack"
Me: "Sir, you do this all the time.Ã,  Your account has over 10 late fee credits on it in the last 3 months.Ã,  Seriously, if you don't want to pay the late fees return the videos on time."
Idiot: "The rental times aren't long enough"
Me: "Well then, don't rent here ... you signed on the dotted line agreeing to our policies when you got your membership"
Idiot: "I'm not paying those fees."
Me: "Okay sir, have a good night" as I grabbed his current selections and put them behind the counter, and smugly stared at him.
Idiot: "I'm checking those out!"
Me: "Oh, okay" I shrugged, as I scanned them and told him the total.
Idiot: "I told you I'm not paying those late fees"
Me: "Sir, if you don't pay the balance you can't rent these."
Idiot: "This is rediculous ... you call this good customer service?Ã,  You're pathetic!"Ã,  and a few more insults I can't really remember them all.
Me: "I give good customer service to good customers."
Idiot: "Don't get smart with me asshole!"
Me: "I can't be anything but smart with you pal." I was losing my temper at this point.
Idiot: "So your refusing me service?"
Me: "Are you refusing to pay what you owe?"
Idiot: "Yeah"
Me: "Yes"
At this point he's so red in the face I think he's about to pop a blood vessle or something.Ã,  The check-out stand was right by the door so as she started to leave, I started to walk his videos back to the wall.Ã,  He throws the door open and then turns around (obviously ready to start some shit).Ã,  I just happened to be standing directly behind him at this point and when he turned around we were directly facing eachother.Ã,  I happend to be about 9 inches taller then him, and had him by probably 80 lbs or so.Ã,  He looked WAY up at me ... huffed, and then stormed out.

I immediately started laughing my ass off and two other customers actually applauded.

It was grand.

how exactly have you pixelized him?
Well, mine looks more computer generated.Ã,  Yours looked (to me) more like a hand drawn image scanned in, rather than a pixel by pixel character.

I'm also interested how to avoid white(background color) outline thats made by photoshop when i shrink image. for example when i shrink this views i get white outline around character in ags. any tips for that?
When you shrink the image down, keep the layer information.Ã,  Create an alpha channel for the character, then use AGS' alpha blending.Ã,  It should prevent the white outlines.

I made a small update ...

In the picture the way it is, the top 2 bedposts (the ones on the wall with the door) shouldn't appear to be the same height as the ones closer to the 'camera'

Yeah ... the bed actually follows perspective.  The posts don't because when making them follow perspective (because it's so steep) it looked really wierd.  So I cheated a little.

But Andail's right, the perspective shouldn't be so severe.

A good article ... perhaps they used 'whilst' too much, but good :)

You're only 19?!

For some reason I thought you were older than me??Ã,  I don't know why I got that impression ...

For somebody less than two decades old, your art is now even more impressive!

Keep up the good work!

Very interesting ...

I like the idea of using the Half-Life engine to create an AGS game.Ã,  I'm trying to get my brother into AGS because he developes Max Payne 2 mods and I thought using that game's detail/shading/etc. would work awesome for something like you're doing!

I look forward to seeing this.

Questions:
Are you using Inventory items as spells?Ã,  If so, way cool.
Will there be an English version (the screenies don't look Englishy to me?)

I think I got a little carried away ...

- fixed the perspective on the bed
- lowered the door
- added score of detail and color

You're using two vp (vanishing points) in this picture.Ã,  So you just have to make sure you use the correct one to figure the perspective.

I know I went way overboard, but I hope it helps anyway.

Most excellent!

I have been waiting some time for you to make a game.

That said, if you don't release this one, I shall hunt you down and throw strawberries at you.

As DanClarke stated, your characters shine!

I look forward to seeing how the sneak/hide works and testing out the AI.

Did we read the rules?

It's the all caps and bold sticky thread which says, FORUM RULES - READ BEFORE POSTING.Ã,  Which, obviously, you didn't.

I decided to eat some lucky charms and try something ...

I just wanted to see what it would look like pixel-ized.

I'm mildly dislexic (meaning I see things backward) and for years, when we didn't know it, most people just thought I was stupid.

I taught myself to work around it, but it still slips in every now and then.

Sometimes it happens when I write too.Ã,  I have to visualize everything I write to ensure I don't write it wrong.

A fun part of it is that I'm pretty good at pronouncing words backward ... which can be fun at gatherings!

Both of these images are very nicely done!

I don't see how you can use these in a game though?Ã,  Even if you're using an 800x600 resolution these characters will take up most of the screen.  They're huge!!

Also, as was hinted at by Friz, animating these will be a Bee-Itch!!!

I think this style would work perfectly if you used it in cutscene/movie parts of the game, but they'll probably need to be simplified (and shrunk) to be used as character sprites in game.

Just my 2 cents ...

If you pick it back up just drop me a PM to let me know ...

Review the Forum Rules before posting in here.

It's the sticky topic that says FORUM RULES - READ BEFORE POSTING

1) You need to add screenshot(s)
2) You need to add a plot/description

When you're ready (after reading the rules) let me know (PM) and I'll unlock this.

The top left branch of the tree is shaded backward ... might be what branch he's talking about?Ã,  Also, the solo (cut-off) branch under the two holes in the center tree looks a little out of place!

I really like this image, and was thusly inspired to do a paint-over:

- fixed the shading on the top branch
- darkened the trees
- lowered the hi-lighting
- added some 'bark' detail
- fixed the outline on the rock in the corner
- added shadows from the back two trees

I think the path looks great in your latest version, so I didn't fuddle with that.

My only complaint was the trees were too bright ... so I darkened them a shade or two.

Hope it helps!

Here's one way to make sure your team wins ...

I made another, but it's file size was larger (~ 100k) and I didn't want to screw over the dialer-upperers ... so click if you wish to see it: Entry #2

I think I know what he's saying ... because I've wanted this same thing before.

Something like this (if you're using 800x600 resolution in Windows)

The game would run at whatever res it's set at, but the screen would be full.  The idea that I had would be that AGS would detect the screen res, and you could have different background graphics for each resolution so you could fill up that black background with something else than just black.

** Darth Mandarb bites his tongue **

Ummm ... did you read the manual or check the *** READ THIS THREAD FIRST BEFORE ANYTHING ELSE! (updated 08.16.2004) *** thread?

Quick Answer:
Yes

Better Answer:
You can use whatever kind of background image you want, as long as the color depths match between the two.
