Did anybody catch that Track & Field 400 sweep by the US?

I'm not one to rub a victory in the faces of the losers or anything ... I'm just commenting on how cool that was!Ã,  First time since '88 that the US swept that event.

It's also the first time since 1964 that a white American won.Ã,  There's an interesting article about it over at MSNBC.com for any who might be interested.

Other hi-lights (or low-lights) for me:
- Seeing Russian Anastasia Myskina blow a 5-1 lead in the third set to Henin-Hardenne ... what an upset!!
- Seeing Gary Hall win again (he's a cocky bastard but oh well)
- Seeing Phelps (swimmer) step down after winning his seventh medal to let Ian Crocker race in his place (so Crocker could get a gold)
- Seeing the crowd (last night) boo and scream until the judges re-evaluated Nemov's score on the high-bar.Ã,  The man deserved better than he got and the crowd knew it!
- Seeing May/Walsh & McPeak/Young doing so well in beach Volleyball
- 2 words; Logan Tom

I could keep going ... it's been a good Olympics.

Hey James!!Ã,  It's good to know it's still floating around!Ã,  I'd love to see it someday.Ã,  I also know what art you're doing for Steve and I anticipate that project very much as well!Ã,  (as I was originally involved in a small capacity :))

Quote from: Andail on Tue 24/08/2004 09:20:36If you don't want to call it parallelometric, like I suggested, then fine, but at least don't call it planometric! :)
Oh .... I thought you did call it planometric (didn't look back in the thread)!Ã,  Parallelometric is fine with me too!

Darth Mandarb's ammendment:
I originally started A Friend Indeed as isometric, but quickly realized it's harder to work with than planometric parallelometric.

Halo was the first FPS (single player) I have seriously played since Quake 2 came out ... my roomates and I (where I used to live in Michigan) used to play Unreal tournament a lot.

I just stopped liking them 'cause they all seemed (basically) like the same thing just repeating over and over.

But I sat down a few months back (on my brother's computer) and clikced the Halo icon.  6 hours later I was still playing.  It's a very involving game.  I would say that it's probably one of my favorite games of all time.

The story isn't unique or anything, but the environment just fascinated me.  I loved the idea of the ring in space like that.  If an FPS can hold my attention that long, then it's good (for me).  Because usually I sit down, start playing, get bored two minutes into it, and never play it again.

Halo was an exception.

I'm hoping they don't f--k up the sequel!

General Discussion / Re: Locking topics
Tue 24/08/2004 04:54:16
Mostly (in my case at least) it's for not following the forum's rules.

For instance, if your signature were a thread, it would be locked, as it breaks the rule:
NOTE: If you include an image in your signature, please ensure it is no larger than 600x50 pixels.

In the GiP I don't think it's necessary to delete them ... if the author is actually making the game it (the thread) can be unlocked for future updates.

And, as Gilbot mentioned, if threads were simply deleted you'd get thread after thread asking why it was deleted or where did it go?

Ooops, well maybe BorisZ can't see the different either and is happy with A friend indeed like I amÃ,  ;)
Somewhere ... Darth Mandarb is blushing ...

Thanks!Ã,  I originally started A Friend Indeed as isometric, but quickly realized it's harder to work with than planometric.Ã,  But James' DevcoQuest had soooo much promise.Ã,  I haven't seen him about lately though.

I am keeping my fingers crossed that it's still in development!

Could you move it for me then please? ;)
No!Ã,  Sorry, I can't control this board.Ã,  But I'm sure Mod ... er ... Midis would be more than happy to do the relocation!

damn DM, have you got some sort of macro to do all that funcky linkageÃ,  ;D
Sort of.Ã,  I actually keep a text file on my desktop that has a whole bunch of premade BBCode snippets.Ã,  So when I'm posting (if I'm going to need it) I just open it and copy & paste.Ã,  It's a time saver let me tell you!

Quote from: Mr Flibble on Mon 23/08/2004 19:41:14Helicopters don't have flat bottoms.
Every helicopter I've been on has had a flat bottomed floor?

Something to keep in mind when designing a background is making it realistically populated.Ã,  Meaning, the items/elements that you put into the scene make sense.

You need to either add doors to the pilot/copilot stations or remove that center console (or lower it or make it thinner) because the only way the pilots could get into their seats would be to crawl over it.Ã,  Or thin the pilot seats (they're very wide compared to the benches in back)

Also, the perspective is slightly off.Ã,  I have done a paint-over.

- The red lines are the perspective/suggestion lines
- altered the roof lines
- added a door (shortened one bench)
- added details to the floor
- thinned pilot seats
- connected console to dash
- added door areas (cockpit)

Post your artwork in the Critics Lounge!!

Also, if you're seriously looking for help with this game you should post a request for help in the ACR - Need help with a game? thread.

I do like the idea of a space quest 4.5.Ã,  The SQ seriers were always my favorite of old!

Either way you should make the door an object, and you make it animated opening (and closing if you need it).

Now, if you want it to animate open when you perform an action you simply need to make a seperate walkable area where you walk through the door that is removed when the door is closed.Ã,  When you perform the action to open the door, restore the walkable area and run the door's animation.

If you want the door to be motion sensor like (meaning it opens autormatically when you approach) you use regions (or hotspots if you need to).Ã,  When you step on the open region it opens the door (don't need to remove a walkable area in this case).Ã,  Now I always put a second region outside the 'open' region that closes the door ... so if you approach and open the door, but then walk away, it'll close.

Note: If you're using hotspots instead of regions you'll need to make the open one active initially, and the close one disabled.Ã,  When you step on the open hotspot you'll then disable it and enable the close hotspot (and vice-versa with the close hotspot) otherwise the door animation will go crazy on you and won't look right!

I, as a joke with my friend, signed up for Match.com a few years ago.

I met some skanks, and some really wierd women but I actually met a really nice woman.Ã,  We went on a few dates and really hit it off.

When she first e-mailed me through the program she was out in California and we bounced a few e-mails back and forth, then she gave me her IM name.Ã,  We spent three weeks of late nights chatting on IM getting to know each other.Ã,  When she finally came back to Michigan (where I was living at the time (and she was from there too)) we spent another week IMing before we finally decided to meet.Ã,  She was just as good in person and we had 2 weeks of dating before I left for a vacation.

On this vacation I met Sara (who I know live with in Florida) and I kind of left this match.com woman behind.Ã,  But I was honest with her and we still talk from time to time.

That was long story ...

Anyway, my point was this; it can work.Ã,  Getting to know somebody without being physically around them is a whole different relationship dynamic that was actually quite pleasing to me.Ã,  You know that person very well before you meet them in person.

I didn't really have any terrible experiences with it.

It's not bad ... only it's more than twice the 'recommended' height for a sig image.

It should be resized if you're going to use it in your sig.

From above the box where you enter your signature on the profile pages:
NOTE: If you include an image in your signature, please ensure it is no larger than 600x50 pixels.

Quote from: Gilbot V7000a on Mon 23/08/2004 09:19:17We should wait for Radiant himself to say whether if the game is still being made or not, especially when he looked active recently, so he would probably read this and reply.

Of course if the game's cancelled this thread can be locked, but we can't confirm until we hear a word from Radiant himself.
Yeah, I was waiting to see if he replied.Ã,  So Radiant, if you're reading this, let us know the status of this game please!

Straightening the lines would help this a lot I think.

Or, if you're going for a 'skewed' look/style, just smoothing the curves.Ã,  Right now it looks hand-drawn and a little sloppy.

The best advice I can give for adding details is to just start throwing them in there (if you're using photoshop use seperate layers for each detail piece - easier to move them around if you need to!).Ã,  Once you get a few good ones, the rest will start falling into place.

Those references Demorgon provided should prove helpful to you.

Looks, and sounds, really good!

I like the deep plot, it sounds very well thought out.

The screenshots look great.

I look forward to following the progress of this one!

I downloaded, and played it.

I think you were going for a very stylized look here.  In which you were successfull!  However, there were quite a few parts where I just couldn't tell what was going on, what something was, etc.  I made my way around by just clicking everywhere with everything.

That was basically how I went through.

I dig the idea, I think maybe just adding some shades of gray might make it a little clearer what's going on.
