Is there such thing as a Nice pick of Michael Jackson?
Sure there is, I have provided it below ...
#4283
Maybe ...

Make sure, when you do the 'AddInventory' command, that you're using the inventory item's number, and not the room's object number.

For example, if it's the 6th object in the room (object 5, as they start at 0) you would remove object 5 from the room when you 'pick up' that object.

However, if that particular item is item 4 in your inventory items screen, you need to add to inventory item 4, not object 5.

Does this make sense?  Am I way off?

DGM - That's funny!Ã,  Forgive my ignorance, but is that a Simpson's thing?Ã,  (the drawing looks simpson-esque).Ã,  I'm afraid I don't watch them much. :-/

Netmonkey - I don't have a DV camera at present.Ã,  I think I'm going to go with the Deluxe Pinnacle system because I need everything it has and it'll cost me less (in the long run) then buying all different pieces seperately.

Once I have made some videos/movies/etc.Ã,  I'm going to, of course, ask many of you in the AGS community to watch them ...

You've been warned ;)

Shbaz - The last post in that topic was from almost a year ago ... but thanks for finding it and passing it on, I appreciate the effort.Ã,  I actually learned a thing or two from reading it!Ã,  I just wanted some fresher opinions ;)

I have found two versions of this package.Ã,  Theres, Pinnacle Moviebox Studio v9 and the Deluxe version.Ã,  The Deluxe version is $50.00 more, has a different moviebox (the hardware for capturing video), and also comes with a 1394 (Firewire) connection.

I'll probably just go with the Deluxe ... the moviebox technical specs say it can capture MPEG-2 ... does this mean I wouldn't have to do the conversions?Ã,  Now that would be cool!Ã,  It also comes with a bonus DVD with extra sound effects and transitions.

I used to work with this guy a few years ago, and we still keep in touch, and he does video editing, DVD authoring and the like.Ã,  He actually gave a thumbs up to Pinnacle.Ã,  He doesn't use it (he's got multi-thousands of dollars worth of equipment now) but he said it's very functional for the price.

Thanks for all the help guys!Ã,  I'm going to phone Pinnacle tomorrow and pick their brains about a few things, but I think that's the one for me!

General Discussion / Re: Heres a mad Idea

I, too, despise Jackass.Ã,  Let's all go out and endanger these people around us, who we obviously don't give a shit about, and then laugh about it.Ã,  We've got no ambition in life other than to be beer drinking, fart lighting, masicists!!Ã,  Yay!!!

I can't stand [worst thing I've ever seen] Da Ali G Show (on HBO) for much the same reason.Ã,  Being stupid (like that) shouldn't be considered comedy ... it's weak.Ã,  And all these critics say, "Shockingly Original!"Ã,  Can somebody please tell me what's so original about it?

Now what about if people took your idea and did it within AGS?Ã,  Created a cutscene movie of adventure game characters doing stuff like this ... maybe that could be funny?Ã,  And less of a problem for hosting as the files sizes would be considerably smaller.

Maybe a new competition?Ã,  I had an idea like this (sort of) for a competition where it would be a monthly thing (like MAGS) but the task would be to re-create a movie scene.Ã,  It would all be cut-scenes (no playing) just a watchable thing.

Your idea could work something like that, no?

Thanks for the advice guys!

I checked out Pinnacle Systems and came across this:
- Studio MovieBox Deluxe v9.0
The price is reasonable AND it seems to do everything I need all in one package, which I like.Ã,  DG, was this what you meant?Ã,  It really seems like a good deal.

And man do I remember how long converting video takes!Ã,  I was considering hooking up one of my older computers (just needs new ram) and making it a 'render' box (not sure if that's the term for video editing).

Thanks again.

Yes, that's what I meant :)

Too many websites have annoying pop-ups and it's just much easier if you provide the necessary information in the thread.Ã,  That and it's in the rules.

For a good example, check out Dave Gilbert's thread for Two of a Kind.Ã,  It doesn't get much better than that.

Please update your first post.

Edit - Thanks for the update!!

Ms. Rose's powers of association shine through :)

That's the very scene I had in mind while typing my post!Ã,  I think it would add some very interesting interactions indeed.

Is there a plot/story for the game?

Please provide more information ... soon ;)

Alright ... I'm calling on anybody in AGS land who has knowledge about video capture cards to please lend me you expertise!

The Story ...
I found a treasure trove of videos in my parent's attic (top of the house, below the roof).Ã,  They're some of our family vacations, christmases, holidays, family gatherings, etc.Ã,  The problem is, they're all on VHS and they are showing signs of ageing ...Ã,  I asked around to see about getting them transferred to DVD at a few local video shops and they ALL charge an arm and a leg.Ã,  I want (NEED) to save these priceless memories!!

Well this got me thinking ... I've, for years, been wanting to get back into DVD production (did some a few years ago).Ã,  So ... I'm going to build a little video editing studio for myself.Ã,  I'm (sort of) on a limited budget so I want to get stuff that will function on my current PC rather than get a new machine.

The Questions...
1) Do any of you know what capture card is the best bang for the buck?
I want a good one, but don't want to overspend.Ã,  I know very little about this subject.Ã,  So I don't even really know what to look for.

Some (of the many) I checked out:
DVR Supply - These seemed like maybe a little more than I would need?
Dazzle Fusion - sounds pretty good to me?Ã,  But how is it so much cheaper?
Pinicle Liquid Edition Pro 5.5 - I have no clue?!?

I just get confused because there seems to be an unending number of these things.

Any recommendations?Ã,  I'd like to get the best card available at the lowest cost.Ã,  I don't need anything really fancy.

I'm inclined to think that Dazzle Fusion might be the way to go?

2) What's the best DVD authoring software?
Again, best bang for the buck.Ã,  Ã, I want these features; video menues, sound in menues, Over effects on menu selections, chapter markers, basically I want the works!

Here're a few I checked out:
ULead DVD Moviemaker - seems like a cheapy to me?
ULead DVD Workshop - is it that much better?
SonicMyDVD - seems like a good one to me?

Anybody know any other good ones?Ã,  This again ... there are so many options I just get lost in not knowing which to get.

Thanks for any and all help guys & gals.

Make sure when you import the sprites you have checked the box for "Import at 640x400" resolution.  It's in the sprite import box.

See if that works for you.

I find it hard to conceive that RTF's useful information isn't covered in the manual.

Let me just search the manual ...

Ah yes, after * extensive searching I uncovered this:

Distributing Your Game
When you choose the "Save game" option in the Editor, as well as creating data files which it needs for itsself, the program will create an executable file with the name of your game, in the "Compiled" sub-directory of your game's folder. This single file contains all of the program code and data for your game, and is the file you should distribute.

C'mon guys ... are we even attempting to search before asking questions?

* extensive = approximately 5 seconds

NOTE: I mean no offense to homey3 ... but this is becoming epidemic!!

I don't really think it's practical that his clothes just appear on him while traveling through time.

I think it would be funny if the people he works for give him his wardrobe before he sets off (in a suitcase or something) and when he gets where he's going he changes into it.Ã,  Then he finds out just how 'on or off' they were in their guess as to the fashions of the time.

Might be more realistic this way ... and still be funny when he puts on the clothing in the past.

BTW, cool game idea.Ã,  I was doing something very similar at one time.

My father used to get something similar ... it was because he had a pinched nerve in his neck.

Do you get neck pain and occasional dizziness?

I find this rather disturbing.

They're frickin' creepy looking.  Not to mention they're all rather on the ugly side.

Now if they had one that looked like Kate Beckinsale ...

General Discussion / Re: Isometric builder

I always thought it was for every 2 pixels left/right, you go up/down 1 pixel.Ã,  I thought that was isometric?

I once started work on a game where your character started in the the year 2010 and went back in time as you solved puzzles.Ã,  When you went back into the 90's you became vga, the 80's you became EGA, and the 70's you became like pitfall graphics.Ã,  Each decade the character changed to fit the graphics of that time.

Are you doing something like that?Ã,  Because I, too, am confused as to why you're trying both versions.

Unless of course it's just for practice ... 'cause that's always good :)

I like them by the way.Ã,  I think they look good.Ã,  I might suggest doing away with black outlines, but that's just my style.Ã,  They still look good.Ã,  I can just see the little slimes hopping along and the fat hyeina's belly jiggling!

AGS is capable of doing just about anything (can't have babies) ... but if you're not wanting to create an Adventure Game (Adventure Game Studio) there are probably better alternatives to use.

Check out this thread: READ THIS THREAD FIRST BEFORE ANYTHING ELSE and it'll help to fill you in on a LOT of questions you might come up with.

There have been several platform style games made, some are working on RPG style games.Ã,  It's really up to you ... and how much time/work you are willing to put into it.

Did you try searching the forums?

Custom Save/Load GUI over at the GAC.

And this inconspicuously titled thread, *** READ THIS THREAD FIRST BEFORE ANYTHING ELSE ***, has resources for these kinds of questions.
