It's 11:05am on New Year's Eve here in Sunny South Florida (that's in the USA for any stupid people!!)

Tim - That's also been my theory!  You spelled it out exactly how I explain it ... wierd!!

Tonight my girlfriend and I are getting a bottle of champagne and are ringing in the New Year with my family.  I spent most of Christmas with her family, so my family gets the New Year.

I don't usually like going out on New Year.  I like to be at a house, with lots of alcohol, and friends/family.

Anyway ...

Happy New Year to those already in 2004 ... what's it looking like so far?? ;)

Well f**k me :)

I wonder what's up with that?  Did you try to go into any galleries or view thumbnails?  That's usually where I run into the bottle neck.  Just the front page tends to connect quick for me too.

Or when I try to submit some work.

Anyway ... I'm shutting up now ;)

Americans SUCK!!

When I first came here I didn't realize that 90% of the members here were you dirty, dirty foreigners!!

The rest of the world has stolen McDonald's and Disney World from us ... so why not Best Buy or Circuit City??  Huh?  Huh?

I jest.

I'm sure she just didn't realize the 'world' reach these forums have.  I made the same mistake when I was a young AGS lass ... er lad.

** DM hopes this doesn't turn into another thread needlessly and ignorantly bashing Americans **

"Can't we all just get along??"

Quote from: Hueij on Wed 31/12/2003 07:50:21DM, since you have lost the tutorial, may I use your sprite? Please? It will keep me off the streets for at least three months trying to animate it...
I would be honored if you used him.  But as I mentioned ... please give me the appropriate credit!

You may also use his furry and cute sidekick:

Doggone is his name (he's a genetically mutated Shih-tzu ... part of the mutation included invisibility)

Good luck!

Welcome!

I used to live in Michigan (moved to FL about 3 months ago).  I was in South Lyon (North of Ann Arbor if you're not familiar with it).

You are, I think, the first Michigander I've met here!

It's good to see good ol' MI represented!!

Anyway ...

When you have your first great idea (or 100 great ideas) post in the Critics Lounge with some art work before announcing your game in the Games In Production forum.  Only post in there when you have a good ammount of the game already started.  (Trust me on this one ... it'll save you from being yet another "Start but never finish" noob) :)

Looking forward to seeing some more of your work!

Deviant Art is an online community for artists.  You post your art work there and it's a huge community so you get lots of feedback.

I like the idea ... but it's gotta be the slowest/shittiest server I've ever seen!

:: Deviant Art Main Site ::
:: Darth Mandarb's Page ::

Evil - I like your work.  I'm currently working on my own company's website.  Part of that is my portfolio site.  I think what I'll do is just use (free) Deviant Art to bring people to my website.  My server must be 20 times faster than theirs.

Am I imagining things or did this thread mysteriously shrink in the wash?

Ummm ... I was wondering that too.

I'm a little confused here.

Perhaps we have a forum poltergeist or something?  A gremlin perhaps?  A ghoulie?  A critter?  A boogins?

I think it could work ... I mean, if a post is made about a GiP and there's no demo available, the thread gets moved into the Critic's Lounge (if graphics are provided) or locked up into obscurity.

There would have to be a very specific rule stating that before you can post in here you must have demo available for DL.  That way, when the loser ... user ... posts illegally they can't complain or they get, "Read the FU**ING rules!!" thrown at them!

I don't really mind the posts as long as there's stuff to look at.  I rarely get my hopes up for seeing it finished though.

Awesome Squinky!!

I don't know what game this is for ... but I'm really looking forward to it!  (Or do I know??!)

The lines in the middle of his neck could maybe use some shading (on the inside towards his adams apple area).  Other than that it just rocks

I really like the background behind the guy.  The machine lookin' thing.  It's quite neat-o!

I hope he didn't mean me because I did make an invisible tutorial.

But I can't seem to find it ...

#5 would be my choice of the newest bunch.

However, since you're going for 'arrogant' and 'ostentatious' I would use either #2 or #6.  I'm still leaning towards #6.

#5 looks noble and strong, not at all ostentatious (to me at least).

Marvelous work by the way.

FOR THE LOVE OF GOD!!!!  You did this without layers?

* DM is speechless *

I used to hate layers ... I remember when Photoshop 3 introduced them I refused to use them.  Then when I did I couldn't believe I ever got along without them!

Give them a shot!  They make it soooo much easier.

The new animation looks good ... but as MrC (I pitty da foo!!) said, the arms should move opposite the legs.  Which would be easy to fix if all the arm animation(s) were on seperate layers ;)

My personal favorite ...

The Invisible Man sprite.  You can use him ... just make sure I get some credit somewhere for all the time and hard work I put in on him!  It's probably the smoothest animation I've ever done!

The animation is pretty good!  The body shakes back and forth too much and is a little choppy because of that.

I smoothed it out a little to show you what I mean.

I aligned the frames so that his hips remain in the same spot (horizontally) and the body raises and lowers as he steps.

I didn't add in arm sway because it looks like you might not want his arms to move.  It makes him look as if he's determined and deep in thought ... or headed for a fight!

On frame 3 the left leg's (front) backwards movement  from frame 2 is a little small (as is the right (back) leg in frames 4 to 5) so you might want to increase those a little.

Feel free to use if you want ;)

cheers,

I had this problem about a year ago.  I couldn't get certain sounds to play, some played with static, some played fine.

What was the solution?

A perfect question.

I went to the local computer store (I believe it was CompUSA) and bought a 15 dollar cheap-o sound card.  It's worked a charm ever since.

When all else fails ... spend money :)  It sounds to me like the sound card(s) are defective if you're having all this trouble.  I must add a disclaimer:  Darth Mandarb is the farthest thing from a hardware expert.

I like #6 the most.

I always think of that curly cue hair (wig) as an uppetty vain thing.  But the moustache color doesn't look right ...

I don't know ... just a thought.

General Discussion / Deviant Art ...

I've been a Deviant for a little while now ...

I love the idea of that community but the server (or site code) TOTALLY SUCKS!!!

It's sooooo frickin' slow.

My question is this:
Are there any members here who are subscribing Deviants?  They claim that if you become a paying member the site speeds up.  Is this really true?

I'll be damned if I'm going to give them any money for that slow of a site.  It's rather pathetic.

Thanks guys!

To unlock this secret Easter Egg you must type (while on the main screen) IMANOOB and a new function will add itself to the Game Editor Tree ...

See picture below for an example:

I (like Barcik) am pretty much on the History Channel.  I watch Call For Help and The Screen Savers on techTV daily.  I tune into TLC and Animal Planet as well.  Mostly educational stuff.

Tuesday nights I watch 24 (best show on TV in my opinion)
Thursday I watch Scrubs (best comedy on TV in my opinion)

That's about it for me.

When the reality TV shows die out I will do several happy dances.

I think most of the drivel on the TV now-a-days is designed for the brain-dead masses.  So much of the world today are under educated and need mindless crap on TV to keep them occupied.  It's all formula and nobody (rarely) tries anything original/new.

Shouldn't every joke have limits?

Yeah sure ... so should every thread ;)

"Okay here's what you do.  On Christmas day if you want to use AGS you need to set your computer clock back.  To do that you double click on the clock and go ...  [meaningful pause] ... Tell you what folks if you can't figure out how to set your computer clock back please ring your call button and Tommy will come over and hit you on the head with a tack hammer because you are a retard."
