Quotebut I'd like to point out that the 200 years thing is very, very incorrect.
One, slavery in the US in fact ended much less than 200 years ago - formally, the end was 1865, or 1863 if you count the Emancipation Proclamation (I don't think there's any real reason to do so).
I know that :)  I was just over-emphasizing!  (Which many here know I tend to do sometimes!)

QuoteTwo, I'm alarmed how many people don't seem to know that that wasn't the only instance of slavery in the history of the world. Slavery has always existed at any point of history you might care to name, probably in a way even before the homo sapiens, and it still exists.
I was wondering if people realized this too.  But that article only commented on slavery in the 19th century so I kept my comments to that topic/era.

I suppose it could be the Jewish community bitchin' about this, "Ramhses ... let the hard drive designation go!!!"

(nuthin' but love to the Jewish community by the way ... before somebody jumps all over poor ol' DM!!)

I saw a can of white paint on the shelf at Home Depot today.  It had the nerver to say WHITE right on the can!

Now, as a white man, I find this offensive.  Are the paint companies saying I'm like paint?

It's simply rediculous.

Get the frickidy-frack over it!!!

I'm am making light of this.  I can see the point of the original argument.

HOWEVER ...

There are hundreds of thousands of people dying from hunger and starvation daily in the world.  There are millions of homeless.  Millions of people infected with diseases.

There are many MUCH more important things to worry about than a frickin' designation on a computer hard drive which has connotations of something that hasn't existed in over 200 years.

If we focused 1/2 the attention on important matters rather than frivilous bullshit like this, I think frivilous bullshit like this wouldn't matter at all.

(this is, of course, just my opinion)

"get over it" does not equal "forget about it".

You should never forget the past, but neither should you live in it.

Dragonrose - You actually had me laughing with that one!

m0ds - I laughed at your joke too!

I had a program once called MIDI Studio (I think) and I used to just throw stuff together.  I was persistant but never managed to make anything worth while.

You know ... this is unpopular when I say it (perhaps because of the color of my skin) but I'm so sick of the bitching about slavery in America.  For the love of God it was over 200 years ago!  Get the hell over it!!!

This is yet another black/white issue rearing it's ugly head further perpetuating racism in America.  Now the issue has finally made it's way to something as trivial and completely unrelated as computer hardware.  I guess it was just a matter of time.

I'll tell you the problem ... ignorance.

In South Florida there was this woman, Oliphant, who was the supervisor of elections for Broward Country.  She was a complete incompetant bitch!  She fucked everything up but for some reason they just wouldn't get rid of her.  (she's the reason Bush is the president basically).  Then, when they FINALLY did oust the incomp, her sister immediately started bitching that it was because she was black.

From now on, whenever something is denied me (or taken from me) I'm going to start screaming that it's because I'm white.  Hey, it works for all other colors in America!  The fact that, as a white person, I can't do that means that's discrimination against white folk!!!

It's one of the things I like about visiting these forums.  Sure we have ideological head-bumping from time to time but I can't really think of anytime it's degenerated into racial bullshit.  I'm not even sure of what color most here are (and it doesn't matter to me!)

QuoteI don't know...does the hardware mind?
Earilier I said, "I think we should wait until the hardware complains about the relationship before we change it!"  I'm glad we agree :)

QuoteAnd I hate this tendency to 'cleanse' vocabularies so that we can pretend history didn't happen or something.
Couldn't have said it better myself.

QuoteBut what if hardware really does have that kind of relationship?
Good point!  I think we should wait until the hardware complains about the relationship before we change it!

If you want specific ideas for the game yeah, we're gonna need some more information.

If you're looking for inspiration to get ideas flowing ...

What I do (sometimes) is I watch the special features on my Lord of the Rings DVDs (now including the Two Towers) or other movies that feature how the creativity was done.

Or I listen to music that I find inspiring.

I also have parts of books that I know are great and I will re-read them just to get me inspired.

These things get my creativity flowing and help me get motivated!

Hope that helps!

Sooo ... now people are bitching about Master/Slave huh?  I guess it was just a matter of time.

You know, there's male/female ends of plugs.  Why don't we bitch about that too!

The conclusion I've come to is that people will complain about anything.

Bad Timing - I totally dig this one.  Subtle and won't get on your nerves in the background (as long as volume is low enough!)  About 1/2 way through it the volume got insanely loud.  That might have been my computer though ... it's been known to do wierd things like that!

By The Sword - I like this a lot too!  I think it'll fit for credits, but also if there was a final cut scene with some climax of the game.  It's pump music!

Perils of Poom - This one was my least favorite but still enjoyable.  It definately puts me in mind of a sales person!  It also has a carribean sound to it.

I like them all!

I'm blown away by people who can make music.  I have the musical ability of a fish.

I wouldn't mind whipping up a voting module ...

The only snag is that unless slypher.com allows for ColdFusion the actually voting part would have to be hosted on my server.  Which I don't mind.

Here's an example of a poll system I created for a client: Cargo Guy Poll System
:: scroll down to the bottom and hit 'View Results' to see how it displays the results.  Please don't hit the Submit button 'cause I don't want to scew their actual results! ::

Obviously we wouldn't want the results displayed until the winners are announced.  But it would work the same way as this (just not showing who is winning!)

If you're interested I'd be happy to do it!

I am sweatin' what to get my girlfriend for Christmas.

So worry not too much ... you're not alone!

I saw her eyeing this ankle bracelette thing the other day when we were at the mall (which was probably her subtle way of saying "I would like this for Christmas" without actually saying it)

I was thinking of making a CD with some of 'our' songs on them and making a custom jacket for it so it's all neat-o looking.

In the end I think most women (as long as they aren't Gold Diggers) want gifts that are sentimental and come from the heart rather than ones that cost a lot.  That's why I actually buy a gift and make a gift for everybody on my Christmas list.

QuoteOh, and our artist will have an animation tomorrow hopefully. He's sleeping right now.
Sleep is for the weak  ;D

I think big characters would look cool in a game.  I think most people avoid bigger characters because it requires more detail to pull it off.  Especially in animations!

I wish I had more time on my hands to help out!  I love making backgrounds and WWII is my favorite History Study (I've studied it for over a decade!) ... I just have too much on my plate :(

Keep up the good work and I look forward to the animation (tomorrow!!)

cheers,

This is pretty good!

What resolution is your game going to be at 'cause this is gonna be huge in the game!
EDIT - Read the Games In Production thread about the resolution!

I like the black outline ... the only spot the black outline looks 'off' is the nose/mouth area.  I would use a darker skin tone to do those areas but that's just me! Also ... there's some doubling of the black lines in the lower pants/boots area and the lapels of his coat.  Is that shading?

This looks cool!

Now animate it :)

No, this is absolutely true!!

I know both Dr. B.J. Sooner & Dr. Inserta Shafteer.  They're both very smart and knowledgable doctors.

I was a control element in the experiment.  It involved receiving felatio 9-10 times a day from hot attractive woman but hey, it was for Science.
