It's the 31st ... I vote for Wanderlady ...

I love the face in the cloud.  Nice touch,  it earned you my vote!

These aren't in any particular order:

1) Apprentice
2) Buccaneer
3) Astranded
4) Pirate Fry 3
5) 5 Days A Stranger

I picked these just 'cause they're the most complete feeling/looking games.  Even though some of them aren't that long.  They just made me feel like the geeky little pimply faced 9th grader who was shirked by the ladies so came home and got lost in Space Quest III ...

Ahhh, sweet sweet memory lane ....

This rocks!!!

Great graphics, great animations, story, dialog.

I noticed only 1 spelling error (when the healer is talking about the bird she says, "I gues ..." I'm assuming that should be guess?)

My sound isn't working.  Is there sound too?

How do I kill that damn parrot??

cheers,

General Discussion / Re:Funny things to do...

Whenever I'm out in Public (or with a group of people) one of my favorite things to do is this:  Whenever somebody bends down to pick something up, tie their shoe, etc.  I make a loud fart noise right as their ass is up in the air.

This is particularly funny when it's a quiet place and there's a bunch of strangers around.

For the sack of decency I don't suggest doing this at a funeral, but just about anywhere else is acceptable.  The library is a great place 'cause it's generally quiet in there.

That's pretty funny!

"Australia's still like WTF?  ... but they'll be dead soon .. fuckin' kangaroos."

I love when the missles pass eachother in the air "Yo!" "Whatup?"

Ahhh ... the future's so bright, I gotta wear shades.

Would that be Peter Quincy Taggert, the Commander of the NSEA Protector?

Man I love that movie!!

"Set it on screen saver 2!"

Thanks for the link.  I'll check it out!

Good luck with your game and if you need beta testers just let me know!!

I usually start working on backgrounds at about 12 midnight or so ... then it's 7am and I'm just about finishing them up.  To answer the obvious question ... I rarely sleep.  Then I'll spend a day or two adding little details.

And I do consider myself somewhat of an artist and it still takes me a long time to do backgrounds.  But that's probably because I add lots of details.

However, keep in mind that we're all here 'cause we're "amateur" game makers.  We're not really expecting you to come up with something phenominal!!

I agree with Macphee ... do what your capable of and as long as the game is fun, we'll all appreciate it!  Which isn't to say that you shouldn't keep practicing (like PureGhost said!)

Also, I actually finish (satisfied with) 1 background in 5.  I start, get frustrated, and start over.  Happens to me all the time!

Welcome Alynn!

I keep meaning to take the time to get better with the scripting (though I'm not bad!).  It's really the potatoes (graphics=the meat) in my opinion.

Also ...

Oh great!  Another n00b posting a "I'm new here blah blah blah" thread.  God won't they EVER learn???

(you know ... since you like the pain ... just thought I'd help you along!!)

best,

I HATE HATE HATE Max Payne 2!!!

Kidding :)

I don't play the game personally but my brother plays it at all hours and the bass from that friggin' game gets to me after awhile!  It shakes the shit off of my desk!

From what I've seen it looks pretty involving and the voice acting is funny.  "Don't let 'em fuckin' get me Payne!!  Save me!!" from that Vinnie fellow.  There's nothin' like the eff word in video games.

We've come so far!

NSA - I'm a huge fan of the Space Quest genre ... so best of luck on the endeavor!  I'm also glad to see that you posted in the right forum!

Having said that, I'll give you some (friendly) advice:

I've learned (the hard way) to wait until you have something substantial done for a game before posting anything about it.  I know the excitement of starting a new project can be overwhelming and you just want to share ... but after you've been here awhile and you see all the started games, and rarely finished, you'll understand!!

That advice isn't pointed at this post ... as this was just an idea post, I just wanted to impart that wisdom on you (as I've done to other new members in the past) so you don't make the same mistakes most of us made

Welcome to the community and I hope to see some good stuff from you!

PS - Migs:  That was funny.

That's the best way to go about it!  That's what I do ... I just keep adding pixels here and there and movement, etc.  Finally (eventually) you'll get it right!

If you've never animated before (and this is a first attempt) it's a dandy of a first try!

I eagerly anticipate more ... more more more!!!!

(I get the shaking in rage thing now!)

cheers,

Sweet!

The only thing about it that bugs me is the bounce ... but since you said this is just a rough animation (beginning) I'm sure you know what you're doing :)

I like the movement up and down like he's flexing his knees ... it's the jerky/bounce thing.  It looks like he's scared and is shaking?  Was that what you're going for?

I like the red gloves but what Migs said might be cool too!

Great detail on the head!

Keep us posted!

Excellent beginning here!

I agree with what Boyd said.

Also, the grass on the right side of the screen (to the right of the beach) is blurry.  The rest of the image seems to be pixelized but that part looks blurry and it jumped out at me right away!

That could just be because of JPG compression??

But a great start!

right click the image to view the properties to see where it was hosted and copy that link into a new browser window.  Because it's a pcx file it'll just ask you where to save it.

You've posted a PCX file ... that's not going to be viewable.  Either GIF or JPG please :)

I dl'ed the file and looked at it.  Overall it's off to a good start.  The perspective on the walkway is off a little (unless that's the way you want it to look).

Other than that it's looking good.

General Discussion / Re:Kill Bill
Sun 26/10/2003 00:37:48
So I finally saw Kill Bill ...

I just got home from seeing it so I'm going to give you my first impressions.

It had great (and I mean TRUELY great) and amazing fight scenes.  The coreography, continuity, and editing.  Just amazing.

The constant switching of styles and lighting and look and feel gave it it's own look and feel that really worked well with the movie.

The one (and only) complaint that I had with the movie (and this might have been conditional) was the music.  There were parts where it was just annoying the hell outta me.

Now I say this might have been conditional because the volume was ALL the way up in the theater.  It was obnoxious in the extreme and that may be why the music was too overpowering.

In my opinion music should complement the scene ... give it life, but, it should be ... invisible.  I think music is 50% of the movie experience.  It's VERY important.  So when I say it should be invisible I mean that it should totally set the mood of the scene but you shouldn't necessarily notice it.  In my opinion that's good music.  The music (and again it might have been the volume) was very distracting to me and took away from the scene(s).

This was just in a few parts.  On the whole I love QT's music selection.

But I definately give the movie a thumbs up.

I eagerly anticipate vol. 2!

I totally agree with Rince ... when I saw this I was like, "He should have entered this in the Background Blitz" (which is Tim Burton-esque this time around in case you haven't been in there to view it!)

About the ONLY thing I can possibly find to crit would be the color of the sky ... if it maybe had just the slightest hint of blue in it ... I don't know.  That might kill the look ... Ahhh fuck it.  It's awesome ...

Great job!
