General Discussion / Re:Kill Bill

I was a fan of Tarantino before it became trendy to be a fan of his.  (I'm not saying it's a bad thing he became famous, so let's not start that debate again!!)

It seemed to me (until '97) that QT could do no wrong!  But then came Jackie Brown which was the biggest pile of dung!  If it wasn't for Sam Jackson that might have gone down as one of the most boring movies I've ever seen!  I thought QT had lost his touch and I haven't seen a movie of his since.  Now I don't mind slow movies (if they're interesting) but this movie just put me to sleep.

Soo ... seeing all the previews/hype for Kill Bill I was skeptical ... but now I think I'll go see it because you guys have praised it enough to make me give QT another chance!

The Matrix Reloaded ... well, I think it was quite good actually.  I don't really understand everybodies complaints about it.  The fight scene with the Smiths looked fake (though it was incredibly awesome ... just looked fake).  I think people don't like all the talking and plot developing.  But I think, in the end (after Revolutions), it'll only make it a stronger trilogy with more depth and scope.

Just my opinion, but I look for more (now-a-days) in movies than just fast action.

And SSH is right!  All the violence in the world comes from the movies (and video games!!)

Off to a great start!

I too think Pixelart has a strong future!  It's my preferred choice now-a-days.  Especially in isometric style!

The game I'm working on is all isometrically designed and it's lookin' good!

The Holovision is awesome!

About the only thing I would do differently is the black outlines.  But since you're working in a limited pallette they're great.  I usually use a darker color of the main color rather than black ... but that's just my style.

This rocks!

I mistook the voting like it is in the Sprite Jam ...

darthMANDARB humbly presents his toenails so he can be strung up by them for such a monumental mistake ...

Who did a trace over?

This time around ... in honor of Halloween, let's do a Tim Burton'esque background.

Theme: A creepy landscape (cemetary, haunted mansion, deserted street, etc.) in a Tim Burton type style.
Size: No bigger than 640 x 480
Colors: No more than 128

For reference check out movies like Sleepy Hollow, Edward Scissorhands, The Nightmare Before Christmas, etc. to get a feel for Tim Burton's style.

The guy that I picked to win the last BGBlitz hasn't posted in awhile so I'm starting this new one.  Because of this, the winner will be selected by your votes (not just mine ... though I will be voting)

Enjoy and Happy Halloween (to those who celebrate the holiday)

A soldier of the American Revolution ...

note: I know there aren't the right amount of stripes ... when I used the correct 13 stripes it looked too thin and stringy.

Well I joined on March 18th ... so once people realized I was here they started flooding the site.

I'm sure that's what happened.

Man that bites Rode ...

I had a punk break into my car once and stole a shit load of CDs.

I didn't tell the cops though, because you're right ... on the whole they don't do shit.

A buddy of mine heard somebody braggin' about breakin' into a car so we cornered him and beat some sense into him.  But it wasn't my car he had broken into!  Oops.

Be VERY careful about setting that trap.  There was a shop owner in LA a few years ago who, after several robberies, set a trap.  A kid was killed trying to break in because of the trap and the shop owner was convicted of manslaughter and is still in jail.

I think setting a trap is a good idea ... but just don't rig a shot gun to the door or anything lethal like that :)

my condolences man.

Yes i will tell you about it Darth, I'm thinking about going on the caribbean one next year maybe
Thanks!  I've done the Carribean cruise (twice) and it's just amazing!  It's impossible to not have a good time in the Carribean I think!

Small warning:  After sailing a catamaran in Key West I damn near packed up and moved there for a life on the sea.  You just never know when the old salt in your blood will take over!!

The winner is DNA.

I really like the way he used the limited pallette, yet achieved an interesting amount of detail (the lighting)

Thanks to the 3 (that's right THREE) brave souls who entered!

Take it away DNA ... make the next one a good one!!

cheers,

I have to say that I knew from the beginning he was going to win.  It was scary, but obvious.

Maybe ... just maybe this could be a good thing??

I try to find a bright side to any situation so let's look at it this way.

If there were 135 names on the list, and Arnold got 51% of the vote ... well ... unless he cheated somehow, that's a majority of the people behind him.

So if he can use his name/popularity to get that 51% spurred into action to actually be productive it could possibly be a good thing.

Of couse ... that 51% could be all the beach bum/body builders who don't have a clue what an election is and said "Whoa dude, Ah'nold is scopin' politics and I can vote for him??  That's bodacious dude!"

Time will tell ...

I wish him (and California) good luck!

cheers,

Yak - that's awesome!  I'd do any job just to be in that company!  Congrats!

And hey!

One of the best jobs I ever had was at a grocery store.  I never had more fun at a job and I even made decent money!  I was the assistant manager of the frozen foods dept.  (there were only 2 of us and the other guy was the manager!)

But man did we have some fun.

And there was nothing like summer time working in the frozen foods dept.  All the ladies coming 'round with their light summer clothes on hittin' that cold freezer air ....

ahhh ... the memories.

Critics' Lounge / Re:Self Portrait...

I failed almost all my art classes in college because I just couldn't listen to the professors.

They kept saying "do it this way ... do it that way" and their way just didn't make sense.  I always would turn in the projects completed, on time, and looking just like they were supposed to but because I didn't do it the way they said, I failed.

Oh well ... what do they know? :)

It's a great start!  Keep up the good work and it'll only get better!

blimey Harry ... what happened to your scar??

I'm just kidding man!  That's pretty good.

I did a self portrait once ... once.

Did you do that just for fun or was it for a class (school)??

A few weeks ago my brother and I took our girlfriends to the Bahamas ...

Shadows on the Beach - I love taking pictures of shadows (DG's pic inspired me to post this one!)
My girlfriend is "Miles Away From Ordinary" - I love Corona (that's Sara my gf in the background there)
Bahamian Sunset - I like the hi-lighting in the foliage in this shot.
Our Backyard - This was the view off of the back porch of the house we stayed at.
An Evil Omen? - we saw this while making a short stop on one of the islands on our way home.

I was going to start my own Photography thread but this seemed a better place to post!

LGM - Nice photos!  It's good to know there are others here who like takin' pictures!

Here's one of mine ...

I took that in March after an unexpected snow storm came upon us.

I couldn't figure out why I couldn't reply to this message!!

This is a lot of isometric perspective goodiness!!  I love iso!!  I too am working on a game in iso perspective!

This looks really good.  It reminds me of the French Pepsi Site

Please keep adding more and more to this post so we can all see!!!

I think this sounds cool.

I was thinking of doing a small game based off of the movie "Cube" which would be similar to this.

Good luck with it!
