It's annoying when you miss dialog just because you happened to touch the mouse button by mistake.
Many people find it more annoying when they can't skip dialog the way they're used to. Perhaps you could make it an option?

Okay, brief reviews in the random order that I downloaded them in:

Monster in the sea: It had animation, you can

pull down a raging infernal star in two different ways

, and the monster had a moustache.

Sea Sorrow: I loved the graphics and music, but it was a bit too pixel-hunty.

The Creature from Beneath the Sea: Very simple, but nice artwork and the dialouge was amusing.

A Squid With a View: I liked the graphics style (I usually hate the photo-montage style, but somehow I really liked it here) and it made me laugh.

My final choice is Bulbapuck's Monster in the Sea, because moustaches. Good job everyone! I enjoyed this, I'll be doing it again sometime :)

Cutoff Enjoy, as much as possible anyway :D
edit to add some notes now that it's safely posted:
Three rooms, two of which are all black.
File size of .zip is 632 KB (647,672 bytes), which is 636 KB (651,264 bytes) 'on disk', whatever that means.
You may want to uncheck 'play in a window' before playing.
I forgot to turn off debug mode.
Contains one whole sound effect.

I haven't played it (I can't really, I'm on dialup) but judging by those screenshots, in incorrect perspective and obviously mashed together from several photos, this doesn't seem like a commercial-level game to me. To be honest, the graphics almost seem like mock-ups. I too am not a 'this has gr34t gr@ffix it's awesmoe' person, but a commercial adventure game should have original, hand-made (or 3D, I suppose) backgrounds in my opinion.

Also, the rules say you must make the title the name of the game.
[/backseatmod]

This is probably too harsh- you've made a finished commercial adventure game and I haven't, so I guess I can't talk. Best of luck with the game :)

When does a game get moved into the correct category? Is it when it gets rated? Because:

When the game author submits their game here, they can choose which category to put it in, but if you think the game is out of place please say so here.
I certainly didn't get that option ???

Any chance of a 2.72 version? (module is awesome, tested it in 3.whatever and it was brilliant, but I prefer 2.whatever for actually making games in.)

I think I'm going to enter this one.

Tenhum's Tomb Part 1: Getting To The Tomb

(Images taken at 640-res, mainly to make it easier for people with Firefox. The game is 320x200 at 16-bit colour.)

Our unnamed adventurer-type hero sets out on a journey to Tenhum's Tomb. This part covers reaching the actual burial chamber from the entrance.

A pretty short game; I wanted to keep it short and relatively polished. Making the walkcycle was pretty much the biggest hurdle for me- in the end, it wasn't so bad.

All graphics and music in this game are original and made by me (except for a red plane sprite, heh).

As I said, it's a pretty short game, but I think it's worth a look :)

Check it out here. Enjoy, and let me know what you thought of it!

About "We Must Escape":

In an adventure game, text that appears above a character's head is presumed to be speech, so it's as if it's saying: ""We Must Escape""

Secondly, that's not correct capitalization- you would only do that if 'We Must Escape' was the title of a book or something.

So as you have it, it only makes sense if the character is quoting someone else saying (rather than saying himself) the title of something. Otherwise, it's totally wrong, and if the whole game is written like that I doubt I'd be able to get into it, because I'm a bit of a grammar Nazi and poor grammar destroys the immersion for me.

Of course, that's just me. Most people would just ignore it. But you really should fix it.

Woo... this sounds good! :) There's a chance I may enter this one... if only I didn't suck so hard at character animation... :(

A few questions:

1. Can we re-colour the outline? (I don't like pure black outlines in pixel art)
2. Can we scale down?
3. .jpg isn't a very good format to provide pixel art in- the noise was very noticeable until I posterized it. Maybe you could make a .png version? (I can do it if you can't (I.E if you're using MSPaint))

Jakerpot: He's talking about a character size, not a room size. That's the size of a character he has.

Yeah, I know of it (there isn't one nearby, but I know of it) :)
